Favoriting Bryce: Playlist from August 5, 2011 Favoriting

I never miscue a record. I am punctual, well-prepared, and dislike clutter. Outgoing and helpful, I'm always appropriately dressed. I do not behave erratically and have excellent penmanship. My CD's never skip, and I am in good health. I like all the notes, in any order.

No work and no play. I have no idea what I'm doing.
  12:16pm
Cecile:

Okay, I heard yours and Billy Jam's premium, Bryce. And all I can say is that there needs to be a Fabio/Clay and Bryce/Billy tagteam for fundraiser.

annie!

I know I could look this up, but is this Robbie Basho's son or anything?

I like how the Basho-Junghans is filed under 'Great Hoboes' on the internet (random first hit website).
  12:21pm
Cecile:

annie, what's the special today?
  12:22pm
Wild Neil:

Hello room! Clay is so funny...getting male listeners to sing the highest note they can, and females the lowest they can. He is a PILL.

  12:29pm
Ben:

Is this raga Hindu or Islamic? or is there no distinction?
  12:32pm
Cecile:

No, Wild Bill, he is a HOOT. Or a PIP. A pill is the opposite of what Clay is.
  12:35pm
bryce:

hey ben! it's from northern india, style of music called dhrupad, probably the oldest form of north hindustani classical music still performed. actually it was kind of nearly defunct till just recently....
  12:36pm
annie:

lots of seafood and he's unpacking flounder just now..
he specializes in seafood..... across the street is two soups, usually vegan, asian chicken salad, and curry egg salad... meatloaf sandwich grilled in the panini machine. and on and on
  12:37pm
BSI:

Yes. Bryce. Hell of wonderful sounds. Your show turned me on to the Gundecha Brothers a while back, for which I probably owe you a bucket of gilded kidneys. Or equivalent.
  12:39pm
Cecile:

Annie, that sounds like heaven. mmmm.
  12:40pm
bryce:

do you have a spare MF-104SD?
  12:43pm
BSI:

For that you gotta do an all-Gundecha show, after which I'll think of some excuse to not follow through, then will hide from comment board in shame for a minimum of three (3) shows. Void where prohibited.
  12:45pm
bryce:

an all gundecha bros show...let's see..... that would be.... 1.2 songs? all right, that's within spec.
  12:46pm
MM customer service:

There may be some delay in processing your order....
  12:48pm
Ike:

Hey BSI, I will try to venture into the Dark Realm of the Hipsters to see you play tomorrow night at Goodbye Blue Monday. However, they might not let me off the J train unless I exhibit the proper level of irony.
  12:49pm
bryce:

order! order!
  12:51pm
BSI:

Ike, is it a floppy-hat thing, or more like a manufactured scowl meaning I AM IMPRESSED BY NOTHING? .... 'cuz I can improvise a floppy hat. I can even pierce it for added cred.....
  12:53pm
Ike:

I've spent so little time in Billyburg that I'm not even sure. I think a trucker cap might do it, but I don't have one. I'll just have to sneak in.
  12:55pm
Cecile:

I would go opposite. If I were in Williamsberg, I would dress like Elizabeth Taylor in the 90s.
  12:56pm
postmanpaul:

Hey Bryce! Hey Commentators! Time to light up a josh stick me thinks.
  12:56pm
bryce:

i'd like ike to dress like an elizabethan tailor from the 1590s
  12:57pm
Ike:

Hmm, yeah Cecile. That might confuse them so much that they'd drop their Pabst Blue Ribbons right onto the sidewalk.
  12:59pm
Bushwick:

Williamsburg is SO last week.

Ike, when you get cast out by hipsters, we're here with open arms my ninja.
  1:09pm
G:

Elizabethan tailor reminds me. I learned a word doing family history. About 150 years ago one of my forbears in England was listed in the census as a cordwainer. That means upscale shoemaker, from "cordoba" style leather. Too bad, because the other branch of my Redgrave forbears are the acting family, who started as pub owners, went into bar game promotion (billiards, bagatelle), then into theatre promotion, and then into acting.

Yeah, I'm from a family of cobblers and I'm Natasha Richardson's fifth cousin or something. That and a MetroCard gets you on the L train.
  1:12pm
still b/p:

Cord Wainer would be a good acting name.
  1:13pm
Cecile:

Cordwainer Smith was an old-school SF author.

This sounds very much like the Necks, Bryce.

George of Troy:

This Flynt is bad-ass.
  1:33pm

Yes, just like the effect of sun-dappled leaves.

  2:06pm
bryce:

apologies to coworkers
  2:10pm
BSI:

Just a thought, but isn't it more accurate to say that one is IN fire?
  2:10pm
FAQ:

If I am on fire, should I still cuddle with partymates?
  2:15pm
bryce:

Everyone, including you, has a choice about who and how to share being on fire. That means that there may be people who say ‘No’ to your invitation to catch fire.
  2:18pm
George of Troy:

Will the Facilitator be dressed as an Elizabethan sailor?
  2:19pm

cuddle parties? I went to a few of them. But we called them "drunk nerds at a SF convention."

I come here every Friday for Burning Man.

Wikipedia, fwiw:

@Ike: "A largely self-taught musician, [Satoh] came to the technical elements of music not from the usual perspective of western proportions and balance of harmony, counterpoint and orchestration, but rather from a deep understanding of the philosophies of Shinto and Zen Buddhist beliefs. This background reveals a music that delights in the world of infinite spaces and suspended time. His works are fragile in their clarity and simplicity, but are not simplistic or facile. His work represents a kind of sculptural minimalism infused with the lyrical sense of Romanticism."
  2:52pm
Ike:

Horse-puckey. I prefer Bryce's answer. Makes more sense, less pretentious.
  2:53pm
Rory:

Ike, that's the reason why i like wfmu. The dj's play anything and everything.

The quote sounded to me like a statement of the kinds of choices a musician typically makes, but as we all know not everyone cares about what musicians or other creators actually have in mind :-)
