Listener comments!

  3:01am
jj.:

home again!
  3:05am
Adam:

Welcome back, Jesse, and thank you for remembering Don Van Vliet. Happy New Year, and TROPICAL HOT DOG NIGHT!!!
  3:09am
jj.:

not to discourage you from listening to this show, but a few other DJs did way more thorough remembrances of cap'n van vliet: http://blog.wfmu.org/freeform/2011/01/captian-beefheart-1941-2010-.html
  3:13am
Adam:

Indeed, I was fortunate to have known--but I am most pleased that YOU got one in, and such a fine song, at that. Your radio program pleases me, brother. I dare to say that I am not alone, either.
  3:25am
Adam:

Inspired set for the first show of the new decade...so tasty...
  3:30am
Adam:

Please tell me that isn't/wasn't the Horst Wessel song in the background.
  3:36am
jj.:

No Horst Wessel here. That was Jean-Claude Eloy. More from him later.
  3:37am
melting snow:

hey guys, happy new year!!
  3:38am
Adam:

The German(-sounding?) march snippet was Jean-Claude Eloy? Sacre bleu!
  3:41am
jj.:

Ayup. A musique concrete piece, so quite possibly lifted from elsewhere.
  3:44am
Adam:

Mein Gott! I fear it may be Horst-Wessel-Lied, or another volkishce piece, embedded in it. Eerie.
  3:53am
blujacket:

great, great set so far.
  3:55am
jj.:

thx, blujacket!
  3:57am
blujacket:

is this whole album this worthwhile?
  4:00am
jj.:

if you dug that last track, then i'd say yes. haven't really absorbed the whole thing, but it's all very much in that vibe.
  4:08am
dripping lights:

the trajectory of this set is like a winter universe, which, through a slick berth of event horizon, has encountered a black hole: it's a lostness which betrays a nearby foundness.. so it's fun to indulge :-)
  4:31am
thomas:

Hello Jesse! Great to have the Frow Show back on Monday mornings! Thanks for playing that Marc Ribot track! That album is going straight to the wish list!
  4:35am
sloppy shoes:

i had a mellow-ish new year's eve too-- no sunrise, gasp!-- but with some surreal moments nevertheless: including, at the cusp of time, a talk with this person engaged in one of the most indepth virtual reality projects out there-- i nearly got swepped into the new year's during it-- i think there were like 10 seconds let when we extricated! and by the end of the night it was back to folk logic: ancient peruvian strategies to capture the sun with ropes & other charming, old & equally not real, albeit beautiful, thingss
  4:41am
dd:

was just listening in the car...what was that stuff around 3:50 that sounded like super dark, hard techno/industrial?? It blew my mind!
  4:41am
slippy people:

oh cool is this happening LIVE?! your first grateful dead cover??
  4:46am
jj.:

dd: pretty sure that was either the chris & cosey track or the besta bode. they kinda blended together.
  4:48am
jj.:

Yup, that Dead cover was happening live via the Sweet MIDI player ( http://www.ronimusic.com/swmipl.htm ) and a file from here: http://midi.internetarchaeology.org/ (thx DJ Trent!)

Not my first Dead cover. Perhaps electronically, tho.
  4:48am
dd:

thanks!
  4:49am
Mr. B:

That might have been one small step for a DJ, but it was a giant leap for DJkynd.

Bravo, sir - bravo.
  4:50am
Adam:

Amazing work, Jesse
  4:51am
thomas:

Yeah! Uncle John's Band played via MIDI controls was really good! More of that, please!
  4:53am
jj.:

sweet! glad y'all dug it! will drop some more MIDI jamming some other eve, perhaps.
  4:54am
ketchup elbows:

Wow, wild! Maybe online MIDI will be the new solitaire.. Nice playin'.
  5:32am
mustard knees:

this is nice, & doesn't sound like anything i've heard on an ethiopque record before..
  5:34am
greysoul:

Ahhh ... gentle brain rub.
  5:34am
jj.:

Likewise! All solo piano. Really lovely disc. Just got it.
  5:37am
frenchfrie brain:

sweet, could've been for passover too, no? unless it is a diff. 'song of the sea'. Greysoul: '11 greetings!
  5:39am
greysoul:

Wait ... '11 ... oh, man.

When did that happen?
  5:41am
jukebox joints:

my favorite commentary was.. 'the 21st century enters puberty' ...heh heh
  5:48am
greysoul:

I'm up I'm up I'm up I'm up!
  5:49am
playing card fingernails:

i love this song! G, glad you're up on the TIMES :-))
  5:51am
greysoul:

Like my buddy Deadhead Dan said last week: "I'm just getting used to the 70s and here it is the 80s already."
  5:52am
melting CLOCK:

i always say... "i'll never tell you i remembered the 60s"..
  5:57am
superb sundial:

another nice song! .. glad to be traveling forward in time with you all. happy times ;-)
  4:36pm
Joshua K:
