Live performance by Pierre de Gaillande's Georges Brassens Translation Project (Listen to this set: Pop-up)
Transforming iconic French anarchist poet/singer Georges Brassens into an English-friendly form is composer/singer/songwriter Pierre de Gaillande's (The Snow, Melomane) latest musical venture. Pierre has translated a collection of Brassens' songs, strictly adhering to the rhyme scheme, meter, and meaning of the original texts, while preserving their flow and lyricism. He's recording an album of Brassiens' songs, keeping to the pared-down, simple yet undeniably catchy arrangements of the originals. Pierre de Gaillande was joined by bassist Christian Bongers, clarinetist Christian Spinley and flautist/ xylophonist/ charango player Quentin Jennings, playing a number of those songs live for the WFMU listeners.

Dave B:

The V.C. are really good. First I've heard of them, but will be seeking out more.

Are we to take it that this is a Slayer medley in bluegrass rendition?

I am diggin' these tunes. WFMU wins again!

I regret I am too buried to follow the interview remarks, but I am digging the songs.

see a literal translation and hear Brassens sing Je Me suis Fait tout petit here:
Thanks to Pierre for the great work!!!!

Pauvre Martin as performed by Georges Brassens with English subtitles by an old WFMU person:

See Brassens sing Gorille with English subtitles:

Hi Irene, just came back online. Wow! Excellent opening set. And these guys are very good too. Bonzos? Leon Redbone? Rudy Vallee? Great ....

Georges Brassens minus Georges Brassens equals zero.
Bad Ronald:

Hello Irene et al.

Hey Carmichael - speaking of Bonzos (if I remember right your a fan), I got the dvd of "Do Not Adjust Your Set" at PB. You should check it out if you haven't yet...

BR, yes I'm a big fan. I'm acronym deprived these days. What's PB?
Bad Ronald:

NP - http://tinyurl.com/m5593g

In which case I have one or two of his records.

I sit corrected.

Vous avez du gout. (Yes, I'm French... :-)
