Morning Hatch and Bad Ronald...are we still on 7"?
  9:06am

  9:07am
Hatch:

Nope... we're on all 12" vinyl! Some singles, but mostly LPs.
  9:07am
Ypsi:

Hatch fills in for Benjamen this morning.

and an overcast yet pleasant day up here in downsville.. morning all.
  9:11am
GP:

I hope ya'll do the 7"' thing again next year. I think everyone was amazed at what they were hearing and I know that I learned of a whole lot of new sounds that I NEED to track down.
  9:12am
Momosuke Araki Jr.:

will there be a fishing with john segment today?
  9:12am
Bad Ronald:

Always happy to listen to you Hatch but I was kinda hoping Ben would have had some "Tales From Crypt" type comics for us today...

Yeah the 7" programming was stellar!
  9:14am
Hatch:

No fishing with John, but I do have some fishing-related Halloween content.
  9:14am
Parq:

Nice to have you turn up, H. Looking forward to the good word.

?:

Hatch,
What song did you play to close out your old show with? I sounded like an instrumental version of the "Whats Up" song by 4 Non Blondes.
Thanks
  10:18am
jason:

man, it's like you never even left
  10:22am
bwalker:

  10:23am
robert:

found some good stuff at the fair. but the find was a 3 dollar evel knievel album, called "evel talks to kids", which includes the Knievel Theme Song.
  10:23am
SueB:

Though i had wanted to be a mormon with that poofy hairdo - i could not find the right prarie dress. so i will be Julia from 1984 (Junior anti sex league member)
  10:24am
Webhamster Henry:

Paul Williams also wrote "Bugsy Malone" with the teenage Jodie Foster.
  10:25am
jenniqua:

Hatch, I think you should dress up as the crazy McCain lady from the SNL skit. All you need is a mic, poofy bed-head hair and a McCain t-shirt. I am going to be David Bowie/Aladdin Sane with the lightning across the face.
  10:26am
dc pat:

I want to go as this:

But, I think it's going to be too hard to even come close.
  10:27am
Hatch:

That is a great idea Jenniqua. Thx.
  10:28am
jason:

perhaps this mccain shirt-

Shake Sugaree, I heard this song about 30 years ago on WXPN in Philly. It's been haunting me ever since. So wonderfull to hear it again. Thanks.
  10:46am
annie:

wow... i'm stunned with the beauty of this music
  10:46am
PMD:

Yes, I wrote down Shake Sugaree and will try adn find the album..
  10:48am
annie:

chris smither covers sugaree, not as moving as eliz cotten, though
  10:55am
efd:

I probably mentioned this last Halloween, but I highly recommend Psychomania, a great early '70s English horror flick with an aging George Sanders in a pivotal role. I just watched it over the weekend for the first time in about 25 years, and it was as good as I remembered it!
  10:56am
Sean Daily:

Not even close to first comment! Woo hoo!
  10:56am
Hatch:

Thank you EFD! Find any good power pop yesterday?
  10:57am
GP:

Its funny hearing this out of context it sounds like a movie from the 50's or a Twitlight Zone episode, especially the music track.
  11:00am
dc pat:

ok, what film was THAT from?
  11:02am
Hatch:

Prophecy, by John Frankenheimer.
  11:04am
Bad Ronald:

This RPD tune's kinda nice!
  11:06am
north guinea hills:

elizabeth cotten on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OMSYzFdloqY&mode=related&search=
  11:09am
efd:

Hatch, I'll let you know after I listen to everything tonight! I was looking for you around 5:30, but I think you'd left - found a table with some good UK singles.
(Record Fair Finds listening party on my show tomorrow night, btw!)
  11:11am
dc pat:

Elizabeth Cotten: closeups of left hand, upside down stringing are nice on that video.
  11:13am
Hatch:

Yeah I had just left, and had run out of money anyway! Oh well.
  11:16am
Parq:

Did they give stuff away at the end of Sunday like last year?
  11:22am
rico:

hatch, what are you playing in the background right now?
cheers...
  11:31am
Hatch:

That was a track by Lindstrom & Prins Thomas.
  11:32am
Parq:

Nobody -- nobody -- knows what percentage of people are telling the pollsters they're voting for Obama when they're actually volting for McCain. From the pollsters mouths to God's ears, but I for one am keeping my champagne corked for now.
  11:33am
sloane:

Shh! Let's not jinx it, now. Don't let us start feeling comfortable; we gotta get out & vote!
  11:34am
annie:

parq it's why i just don't even trust exit polls. how can you possibly know the truth factor?
  11:35am
Hatch:

There is absolutely no precedent for something like that happening on a massive scale, Parq. And even if there were a 6% "Bradley Effect" of people lying to pollsters, Obama would still probably win.
  11:36am
detroitdave:

Why bother with ANY polls?? Vote for the candidate YOU like and forget the rest of the bullshit!
  11:37am
Carmichael:

I'm hopng for 10,000% voter turnout.
  11:38am
dc pat:

there's also talk of the "reverse Bradeley effect"--Republicans that can't bear to vote for McCain/Palin and vote for Obama once in the booth.
  11:41am
Parq:

Hatch, I realy don't mean to rain on your parade, but there is also absolutely no precedent for a black guy middle-named Hussain being one of the candidates. Honestely, I want to believe, but I've just got a bad gut feeling. Guess I'll just have to work on breathing exercises for the next eight days.
  11:44am
GP:

Not to change the subject but.....dang, I wish I could play guitar like Chris on this "Statesboro Blues" song.
  11:45am
Hatch:

It's gonna be okay buddy. We still have to vote of course, and I will be volunteering all week for the Obama campaign. But unless John McCain bludgeons Osama Bin Laden with his shoe within the week, it's over.
  11:45am
Carmichael:

Honestly Parq, it's all over but the cryin'. Believe it: Our first African-American President.

As Kevin Bacon said in Animal House, "All is well!!"
  11:46am
Bruce:

Saw Chris Smither in Chicago. Wonderful show.
  11:46am
Sean Daily:

Awright! The Penguin for President! Why choose the lesser of two evils?
  11:47am
R. P.:

I agree with sloane, these poll results may hurt Obama, since people may become complacent and not vote. The stat that's been bothering me regards who actually votes: 20% of the 20-year olds and 80% of the 80-year olds. It would help to make sure that you bring others with you when you go to vote.
  11:48am
detroitdave:

great Batman clip!
  11:49am
annie:

he did a small show at west kortright up here in new york. old church venue.. wonderful ambiance..
  11:49am
Parq:

Awright, comic book stuff. That's the ticket. This whole thing is playing like a comic book.

Off-topic, I met Chris Smither decades ago. Nice guy, but not very articulate. I s'pose he was just tired from his set.
  11:49am
jhn:

WFMU hates freedom.
  11:50am
Parq:

We also hate God, America and hard work, jhn. And we're elitist.
  11:51am
GP:

Thanks for the Waylon Hatch.
  11:52am
zoot:

Don't worry, R.P, my 80 year old father has been working hard for Obama. One of his major tasks - registering young folk and getting them to the polls. This will be a big turnout year all around.
  11:52am
Ike:

The real problem is the ES&S iVotronic voting machines switching peoples' votes -- reports say this is already happening with early voting in MO, WV, and TX.

As for polls, enthusiasm is much lower among Repubs than Dems this year, so I think the polls could be accurate. I don't see why someone would LIE and claim to be voting for Obama when actually voting for McCain. But will we be *allowed* to vote accurately?
  11:57am
jhn:

If hating hard work makes you an elitist, then I must be a member of the Ancien RĂ©gime.
  12:00pm
GP:

jhn...LOL
  12:00pm
GP:

Hatch what are you playing in background?
  12:01pm
Parq:

Read last week's "Doonesbury" on the subject of counter-elitism.
  12:11pm
Hatch:

The last track was (and almost always is) "Avslutning" by Bjorn Olsson.
