Becky! Tonkies!

Since you were just playing Mountain Dew, and the subject came up on the chat the other day (during Blumin's show) some examples of hillbilly murder on the soft drink packaging/advertising mastodon.social...

Cool. This is like flipping over a record to hear the other side.

Which reminds me, I saw Mike Johnson on TV last night, evidently trying to sound slightly more sane than the pres candidate, suggesting Biden might come to the debate "on energy drinks"

Good evening Becky and fellow tonkers. I’m buckled in but also working like a dog in a salt mine so I won’t say too much. Will enjoy the show though.

I always thought Gotham was an NYC stand-in
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:35pm
Handy Haversack:

I think Gotham and Metropolis were pictured as across the Chesapeake Bay from each other.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:36pm
ultradamno:

From wiki: In Jim Steranko's History of the Comics, writer Bill Finger, on the naming of the city, said, "Originally I was going to call Gotham City 'Civic City.' Then I tried 'Capital City,' then 'Coast City.' Then I flipped through the New York City phone book and spotted the name 'Gotham Jewelers' and said, 'That's it,' Gotham City. We didn't call it New York because we wanted anybody in any city to identify with it."
  8:37pm
P-90:

Gotham and Metropolis are both imaginary places, but they’re both alternate versions of New York City. They’re sort of the yin and yang of New York City.

WFMU's Fox, host of "Blah Blah Woof Woof" (not on the current schedule), said Gotham is in NJ, across the river from Metropolis (which is in Delaware). She even posted a map!

Maybe Central City was Philly, or DC

Yeah, it’s not clear, there’s an old saw that goes “Metropolis is NYC in the daytime, Gotham is NYC at night”. Becky—aren’t you sorry you asked :D

P-90:

Yes, Metropolis is the shiny city of tomorrow, skyscrapers and the hub of big business., communications, publishing, banking.

Gotham is the brownstones, the tenements, the back alleys, the Bowery…

No lie, I was just cracking open a Silver Age Spider-man collection and Spidey is swing on some bridge (sorry, not sure which one) and I had the same thought! Even though most of the Marvel heroes were set there, he was the most grounded in NYC (the stronger Daredevil Hell’s Kitchen stuff came later)

I love watching thunderstorms!
I always went out under the carport to watch them as a kid. Sitting far from the edge of cover but the aluminum chair wasn't the best idea.
We were rewarded one day when a tree on the other side of the call De sac was struck and caught fire! It knocked my brother and I backwards off our chairs, messed with our hearing temporarily, and once we could see the tree was on fire!!!
