Perhaps neither? Philippe Marcade translated the French verse for "Denis". I was going to play the French version of "Sunday Girl" but changed at the last minute because of how much I love the lyric, "Hurry up and wait". But in any case...Debbie could sing French as good as Morticia Adams could speak it!

I clicky-starred this not because it's some new revelation to me on this show, but just because it's long been a favorite of mine for several reasons. I like the sentiment, even though now it'd be considered "stalking". I like how the very bland 4/4 is used as a scaffold for interesting and cute instrumentation.

Sadly, that frequently happens to bands who have to open for acts whose fanbase centers on white guys in their late teens and twenties. I saw the Stray Cats get similar treatment from a King Crimson crowd in'82.

Hi Patolds!
Blondie opening up for Rush🙁. There are many horror stories!! My band opened up for Judas Priest! Someone at our record company thought that it would be a match made in heaven because our “Band Names” meshed!! Just imagine a New Wave Rock Band opening for a heavy metal band? Drinks, coins, ect got thrown at the band.🙁

Terrible booking but not uncommon as others on this board would confirm I think.
Mention of Stray Cats made me think of the line in Rock This Town about "a real square cat he looked so 1974" there was a huge divide in the early 80s.

I think that came about with the rise of FM radio. Prior to that, we listened to a much wider range of musical styles on AM radio...WABC and WMCA for many in NJ. But we all just embraced the progressive FM stations like WNEW and WPLJ. That was the future of music back then.

You're probably right. I was a suburban white kid, but I was tired of many of my favorites. Alice Cooper was doing ballads, Deep Purple got boring, Black Sabbath was Sabotaging themselves, so punk was a breath of fresh air for me. Not disco so much. I just thought disco was mindless.

Hi Patolds!
Yeah it’s like an attack while you’re trying to put on as best a show that you can. We had another one while opening up for The Stranglers at Irving Plaza. They threw stuff at us and drinks(thank God we didnt get electrocuted while playing our electric guitars!) Then the next nite we had to open for them again. I said to the Band, “how are we gonna survive this?” Our brilliant lead singer came up with the solution!! She told the Band to look as “tough” as we could and no smiling. That won the crowd over. They actually wanted an encore!!
