Hey Spikey!
Any good shows this week? If I remember correctly you'll be abroad this week, any gig lined up wherever you'll be?

I am seeing The Messthetics tonight in Gent. Nothing next week and then Jane's Addiction in Brussels the week after. Relatively quiet month of June then with Mr. Bungle towards the end of it.
What about your dance card?

Messthetics were fantastic in Amsterdam a couple of nights ago!

Saw two this week (highlight being William Forsythe's Enemy in the Figure, even better than advertised). Manecas Costa, a musician from Guinea-Bissau, this afternoon.
Big day Wednesday: booking opens for next year in my favorite venue at noon. I took the day off for it: I usually take 30 to 40 tickets, and I have 20 minutes to pick dates and seats. It takes planning (these go real fast)

FWIW, a composer told me that putting stuff on low strings of a prepared piano is complicated because they tend to fall off. So she mostly keeps the low end free of these

Morningggggggggggggg

A MONK came to the master Nansen and asked, "Tell me, is there some teaching that no master has ever taught?"

Nansen said, "There is."

The monk asked, "Can you tell me what it is?"

Nansen said, "It is not Buddha. It is not things. It is not thinking."

@Jeremiah: Whenever I hear smooth jazz in a dance show (rare, but it happens, weirdly enough in hip-hop inspired shows), I think of you
Avatar 🎷 Swag For Life Member 5:35am

there were those smooth jazz-esque newport cigs ads in th 90's with people doing suggestive things to each other with saxophones

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:40am

I don't associate saxophones with smooth jazz, maybe because the loudest show I ever attended was Borbetomagus, with two sax players

Choreographers who come from hip-hop dance. They often struggle with slower parts (they don't have to do that, but if they want to...) and they tend to go to smooth jazz. It's often just a transition, but some grow and play with it

WHO is the Buddha? What is the Buddha? Here are some of the
answers given by various masters to this question:

Something of clay, with gold-leaf.
The one there in the hall.
He isn't Buddha.
The mountains are traveling over the sea.
Look at that three-legged donkey.
Dry pellets.
The mouth is the gateway of woe.
The best artist doesn't know how to paint him.
The bamboo grove out in back.

THE STUDENT Shichiri was reciting the sutras when a robber entered
his room, put a knife to his back, and demanded his money. "Over
there in the box," said Shichiri, going on with his recitation.

As the robber was leaving, Shichiri said, "Leave me some for my
taxes; they are coming around tomorrow to collect." So the robber
put back some of the money and started to leave.

"Don't you thank someone who makes you a gift?" asked Shichiri. So the robber thanked him, and went off.

A few days later the robber was caught; and among other confessions, he said he had robbed Shichiri. But Shichiri refused to testify against him. "I made him a gift of some money," he said. "And he thanked me for it. That was all."

The robber served a prison term. When he was freed, he went directly to Shichiri. "Will you be my teacher?" he said.

Look out of any window any morning today day
THE MONK Zuigan used to start every day by saying to himself out
loud: "Master, are you there?"

And he would answer himself, "Yes sir, I am!"

Then he would say, "Better sober up!"

Again he would answer, "Yes sir! I'll do that!"

Then he would say, "Look out now; don't let them fool you!"

And he would answer, "Oh no, sir, I won't! I won't!"
