Funny, just yesterday I was reading about the Dorsey’s. Jimmy and Tommy died within like six months of each other. They didn’t live too long.

Mrs Fab and I used to got American Cinematheque fairly regularly when they were at the Egyptian Theater on Hollywood Blvd. they’re not there anymore, are they? kinda lost track of them.

Erik-O-Vert (VT):

Oh yea - John Dahl films - after initial buzz, didn’t he direct a few others that struggled to find an audience. He was a gritty noir guy, until he wasn’t. Perhaps his style was a tad ahead of peoples tastes. Saw the last seduction in theaters - I wasn’t “experienced” enough to know all my noir references. Still loved it. Definitely gots to see it again, now that I’ve digested hundreds of noirs !
BTW/ fyi: I’m committed to attending as many movies In Theaters as I can. Average abt 2 films per week. Arthouse and international and retrospective oldies (a La TCM stuff !)

Speaking of American Cinematheque,
Eddie Muller was always hosting their noir festivals. Saw him speak there numerous times.

Erik-O-Vert (VT):

So envious of your big deluxe beautifully restored (& now maintained) cinema theater landmarks!
- someday/bucket list: I wanna attend multiple screenings in that new DGA theater. As well as that Academy Museum of Motion Pictures (very awkward moniker) , etc etc. L.A. area venues are so darn cool !
Avatar 11:27pm
Bob Barth:

↳ Erik-O-Vert (VT) @11:25
It's true they're very cool. DGA theatre is huge. I usually attend screenings there during award season.
Avatar 11:33pm
Mr Fab:

Tourists always go to the Chinese theater, which is all well and good, but the Egyptian really is spectacular. They even offer tours of it , if they’re not showing any movies you want to see. I saw James Elroy speak at one of the noir festivals, Nancy Sinatra spoke at a screening of her 60s TV special, so many great events.
  11:34pm
Erik-O-Vert (VT):

Wow - what a list of exciting 70MM film’s screenings at Ultra Cinematheque ! We love all things Eddie noir Muller. Again, Mr Fab (et al) envious!

Despite its being a mess- I went to Babylon twice to drink in its busy excesses … i got a lot more outta it on the second viewing ! (& I find that’s not always true for many contemporary films).

I got my own cocky teen. Or “surly” as my wife says. But hey, we all have our moments.
  12:17am
Erik-O-Vert (VT):

One of the best early neo-noir reboots = BODY HEAT (1981) - smoking hot ! (& smart plot ta boot). Holds up great.
Another pulpy noir adjacent sleeper that I recall being pretty wild, (perhaps no longer PC for today’s viewing sensibilities) Dennis Hopper’s “The Hot Spot” - I haven’t seen it again, since 1990, so I might be going on faulty memory. Yet I can definitely vouch for its soundtrack.

It’s quite revealing in powerful ways. But long story short - the visionary that Curated that channel had serious problems (mania, chemistry issues, depression, unresolved family issues , etc etc). Yet The programming was never to be duplicated !
