OK, friends, we're still here in the phone room! Please keep the pledges coming. Call 800 989 9368. If TWO people call at once, one of you gets to speak to K8 instead of me. Flood those lines for safety!
Well, just look at the pre-marathon pledging, you'd want to be past 50% by now as you're 50% through the marathon timeframe, but have raised about 30% (?) in real time... also, the goal is higher this year, but yes.
Ken, it sounds like what you're saying is that SFL and pre-marathon receipts are now accounted for realistically and should be comforting, yet it's hard to break out of the mindset of getting pledges in real time as encouragement.
Happy to hear about Monty Hall. The more gas & toll money I spend schlepping to Brooklyn & [ugh] Queens to see live music, that's less cash II have to throw at WFMU.
I’d like to see you start a program where I can have my swag for life tshirts directly sent to a homeless shelter. There’s be legions of homeless wearing WFMU shirts and then you and Andy can have a show were you guess whether the T-shirt wearers on the street are homeless or listeners.
I was wondering if Gov Murphy’s plan to make more liquor licenses available is implemented, will WFMU look to get one for Monty Hall?
5:17pm
ButtWeenies:
Andy can’t remember the number to the station let alone work any technology no matter how antiquated
5:17pm
Marie:
I feel like this is extremely presumptuous but I think EFD would be a good station manager (noting that Ken is super special and can never really be replaced)
That would depend on HOW they're accounting for SFL receipts. If it were me, I'd adjust the goal downward and credit the SFL with a multiplier for your experience on the average amount of churn in subscribership.
I enjoy State of the Station

Jim:
You need to find a way of setting a fire under slacker swag for lifers (like me). I became a swag for lifer many years ago (Hurricane Sandy sounds about right) and only this year did I up my monthly contribution. Maybe some strategy to get it through our/my thick skull that the real value of a swag for life donation goes down every year... so UP IT every year!
Aren't there any famous people who appreciate WMFU and would donate a large chunk of money? like Kanye or somebody like that who can drop $100K like nothing.
I used to listen to WFMU all day and night because I heard music I’ve never heard before and now it’s no longer true. Why the new direction?
Swagger here love WFMU
Any more thought about dedicating time to set up Artist and Song listings for car radios? (Vs having to pull over if you want to look up the song/artist name.)
There is a new liquor license in NJ that started after the pandemic that is for non-profit theaters with more than 50 seats and less than 1000 and they do not cost the full price, only $2500. Give a look! We just applied for one for our movie theater!
Question: I love marathon swag, but I hate the wait. If they cost so much to ship is there any way to just come pick them up to help save money? Perhaps even have a pick up day?
5:26pm
Eric:
Can you accept "donations" for beer and wine at Monty Hall?
My understanding (which may be wrong) is that pre-marathon one-time donations from the beginning of the calendar year get tacked onto the total immediately. However, I don't think it would be unfairly low to add only SFL monthly receipts to that point, and unfairly high to add a projection of the SFL amount for the year. What you need to anticipate is the percentage of SFL who would revoke their subscription over the remaining months, multiply that by the SFL receipts, and add that. I think that's realistic.
If we all get pledging a little more, I'll go find one of those dudes who have 12 liquor licenses and...convince them to give us one. So call! 800-989-9368

Marc15:
What is the status of the WFMU Record Fare post-COVID?
Having seen the packing process as a volunteer, I think this would be very difficult to manage, esp. given the size of the staff and volunteer availability. It would massively increase the admin for SWAG delivery.
That said, I kind of love the wait. I think of it not as linear but as messianic time. SWAGVENT will come!
I've been wishing for a Daily Schedule Page across all the Streams - as there is for each Stream for the whole week. That is - for each Day of the Week you'd have timeslots in Rows & every Stream in Columns. So many new Programs on every Stream - I'm finding it ever moe challenging to juggle them ! A good problem to have obviously ! - but...
All right, friends...we just had a 2 phones in use situation. It can happen again...let's pay for some of this good stuff Ken is talking about for the FUTURE of WFMU. Give me a ring...800-989-9368

I love the satellite channels. Rock n Soul Radio is amazing.
Got it Joe. Thanks. Power Politics in JC like everywhere else

Matt from OK:
Is there any way around federal regulations preventing higher power FM stations from using Low Power repeaters? I remember there have been changes to FCC rules in the past because the right wing stations were buying up every available LP frequency.
There's gotta be a way around that. I mean, maybe I'll be wearing a pair of concrete shoes for saying this...
5:36pm
TMc:
Is there any reason that the DJs on the Rock n Soul stream leave the reverb on when the music is playing (about 50% of the time)? So distracting that I have to turn it off.

ButtWeenies:
Let’s do another billboard fundraiser that Manson billboard was amazing. Get one with Dahmer and you’ll be on the news instantly. Or an RIP bobbdylan one
Okay, this has been great, friends...phones are ringing. Let's keep them ringing...I don't ever want to have to worry about WFMU not being in our lives, you know what I'm saying? Call me: 800-989-9368
...if there were a way to see what's currently on every Stream @ once on the HomePage (whereas now you have to click on each Stream link to see each one) - that alone would be helpful ? No idea of course how challenging a computer programming challenge that would be... I imagine some spiffy graphic like a Multiband Radio Dial... Would that be a reasonable use of HomePage space ? After all - why have ever more Programs on more Streams if people don't even see them ?
& other Functions like the Song Search ...even the Program Schedules as they are now - are a little obscure to find ? These are not major critiques of course - just ideas...
For years I've had an idea -- even a design -- for one on US 206 northbound to tell people to switch from 91.1 to 90.1 "over the hill". I haven't had the initiative to do a kickstarter and I'd need WFMU's permission to use their intellectual property.
There is a path to argue these things in NY, but it's still challenging for a lot of reasons. Not impossible though. Of course things might be murkier in the Dirty Jerz.
Question: I once heard Ken joke on PBS that WFMU caters to dozens of listeners at any given moment... do you have any idea how many people worldwide listen to the station?
i agree it is impossible to find because it is called "advanced search" instead of playlist or song search. it's under the programming menu on the homepage
that kind of effort is beyond our means. and not just financially. time and energy-wise as well. it is near impossible to prioritize something like that at this point
20 percenter here. So love being able to listen to FMU here in the UK. Remember first hearing FMU on a trip to NYC in 1996, and fell in love instantly.
Yeah, I hear you. It's just like...sometimes business owners need to see that when we create something that makes money for everyone, that's a good thing. No need to hoard and be weird with each other.
I run a non-profit in an NJ town with multiple $1,000,000 licenses and we worked with the City Council to get a liquor license in progress for our 500 seat movie theater. It is a lift and you need a lawyer, but the license should only cost $2500 a year. That said, we have not been granted the liuecsne yet and have been working on it for a year. Monty Hall would 100% qualify, but you need the city ordinance and the license approved, etc. A process.
5:48pm
Peter G in Boonton:
Regarding the cruise, does a kilobuck get a single or a pair of tickets?
BIG THANKS to David F. for his pledge! We only have thirteen more minutes on these phones, me and Handy (today). Give us a call...we'd love to hear from you: 800-989-9368
There are some great shows here on BBC6Music and Resonance, but when you've got Bryce and Mark Hurst and Tony Coulter and Carol Crow and Mary Wing...and and and and, it's hard to go anywhere else. Plus, the community here is so strong.
I listen both by radio, and online. Sometimes when radio reception at home gets bad (usually that's in the daytime when it's sunny), I'll switch to the app.
Brian in the UK -- just saw your pledge come in, friend! You're the best!

Another way to listen if you have a Roku TV surveillance device: I made Roku app. You can listen to all the streams and recent archives. Will be updated in next couple weeks
Tom of Tom and Julia
yes, But like I said, Governor Murphy created a new license that is ONLY for non-profit theaters, so it non-transferrable and is NOT an asset like the other licenses so it doesn't de-value existing license owners assets. All of the license owners in our town are fine with us getting a license... law only passed in 2020 and then COVID hit and no one applied, but you guys would qualify. 👍
yeah we know that. the one we tried to get was called a club license, like they have in a VFW. they even blocked that. nothing has changed here in JC regardless of a new state law.
yeah I get it, I'm not here to argue with Joe Block, just sayin, I am in process on this for our theater and have been doing a ton of work on it, but if WFMU thinks it is out of reach, who am I to argue?
@McGroovey - the law is the law, but you need the city to grant the license ... and yes it can be an obstacle.
