	♥ 9:29am Zinn The Mood: Hey Trouble and Troublemakers. Perfect contemplative stuff on this fine grey NYC day. Though it’s usually my favorite weather I’m overwhelmingly thinking of an activist friend of ours. Who has just spent his second night sleeping in a tent on a corner of Vernon Blvd in LIC, protesting the city dragging their feet on a Community Land Trust building that they’ve promised to turn over to locals. He’s committed to a two-week hunger strike. Of course, it’s about all sorts of other things that connect to it too, as all our grievances are deeply interwoven. The police state and the obscene money that can always be found for more, corporate price-gouging, real estate pillaging, lack of universal health, prison industrial system, dysfunctional government because of money in politics, poverty, etc. Granting this building, we feel, would go to enormous lengths toward remedying so much. The plan, which has been modeled by Rutgers engineering students, included space for all sorts of things, including a rooftop garden, art and music studios, daycare facilities, etc. The building is MASSIVE, and is only being maybe 40% used but the DOE and other folks. Anyway, I’ll be going down again today to support him. If anyone in the area is interested can link to his statement. Thanks for allowing me to share this, Trouble.

Winter is chickadees, nuthatches (personal fave), goldfinches in winter garb, and the ravens. We have a pair of robins that beat the crowd, so that will be my first ray of sunshine and proof that spring has arrived.

It's one of the little 0.7 square foot ones that is supposed to live in this spot built into the cabinets that were here when I got here; I don't have the counter space for a bigger one. The crazy thing it that it got really hot right before it kicked off; glad it didn't start a fire or anything. Will cut the cable off before recycling so that nobody takes it home and tries to "fix" it.....

That’s the building that the most of the Talking Heads lived in and rehearsed at. Add, since 1977 Ernie from the Modern Lovers has lived there. 	11:46am still b/p: So, musicians and what they represent...a curious thing. Waiting for haircut last week, I see a Harper's Bazaar issue with Patti Smith on the cover and inside. Bit of a disconnect there, that person spotlit in such an assertively glam-glossy, merch-humping publication. Then I note the photo captions that give the proud inventory of what's she's wearing in the shots: Hermes, Ralph Lauren, Cartier, Jimmy Choo. So, is this just a bit of reasonable fun in a different lane? Is it maybe poking fun, upending expectations? Or -- even though she's obviously had to play versions of the image/promotion/management game for 50 years, in ways that might not fit neatly into the cultivated arty-counterculturey, anticorporate, anti-commercial associations -- is it a truly odd jump into the pool of unhealthy luxury-bougey posing and support and encouragement of affluence envy and acquisitiveness? Is it even worth wondering about? Skimmed article doesn't seem to touch on this, goes in predictable directions.

This free advertising results in the designers giving more clothes to the magazine, which draws "readers" who want to see those clothes -- and the exposure also leads to more ad-buys from the designers. The subject of the article is almost incidental, but someone at the magazine had some sort of pitch that PS would attract consumers, perhaps that her "authenticity" would be excellent marketing. And then PS's publicist, maybe, says, hey, this is good exposure, do this, and PS goes along because that's why you pay a publicist, and the whole machine keeps perpetuating itself.

	♥ 9:29am Zinn The Mood: Hey Trouble and Troublemakers. Perfect contemplative stuff on this fine grey NYC day. Though it’s usually my favorite weather I’m overwhelmingly thinking of an activist friend of ours. Who has just spent his second night sleeping in a tent on a corner of Vernon Blvd in LIC, protesting the city dragging their feet on a Community Land Trust building that they’ve promised to turn over to locals. He’s committed to a two-week hunger strike. Of course, it’s about all sorts of other things that connect to it too, as all our grievances are deeply interwoven. The police state and the obscene money that can always be found for more, corporate price-gouging, real estate pillaging, lack of universal health, prison industrial system, dysfunctional government because of money in politics, poverty, etc. Granting this building, we feel, would go to enormous lengths toward remedying so much. The plan, which has been modeled by Rutgers engineering students, included space for all sorts of things, including a rooftop garden, art and music studios, daycare facilities, etc. The building is MASSIVE, and is only being maybe 40% used but the DOE and other folks. Anyway, I’ll be going down again today to support him. If anyone in the area is interested can link to his statement. Thanks for allowing me to share this, Trouble.

Will cut the cable off before recycling so that nobody takes it home and tries to "fix" it.....

	11:46am still b/p: So, musicians and what they represent...a curious thing. Waiting for haircut last week, I see a Harper's Bazaar issue with Patti Smith on the cover and inside. Bit of a disconnect there, that person spotlit in such an assertively glam-glossy, merch-humping publication. Then I note the photo captions that give the proud inventory of what's she's wearing in the shots: Hermes, Ralph Lauren, Cartier, Jimmy Choo. So, is this just a bit of reasonable fun in a different lane? Is it maybe poking fun, upending expectations? Or -- even though she's obviously had to play versions of the image/promotion/management game for 50 years, in ways that might not fit neatly into the cultivated arty-counterculturey, anticorporate, anti-commercial associations -- is it a truly odd jump into the pool of unhealthy luxury-bougey posing and support and encouragement of affluence envy and acquisitiveness? Is it even worth wondering about? Skimmed article doesn't seem to touch on this, goes in predictable directions.

The subject of the article is almost incidental, but someone at the magazine had some sort of pitch that PS would attract consumers, perhaps that her "authenticity" would be excellent marketing. And then PS's publicist, maybe, says, hey, this is good exposure, do this, and PS goes along because that's why you pay a publicist, and the whole machine keeps perpetuating itself.
