A study once showed that people in the USA when asked to hum a note would tend to go for B/Bb while in Europe it's more likely a G. Because of 60 vs 50 Hz AC and the fact that there's almost always a fan or transformer or refrigerator something electric buzzing somewhere, and people unconsciously harmonize with it

Great one!

Speaking of, the Chelsea Manning book is worth reading. Though it’s disappointing to hear her take a couple of sly shots at Assange. One has to wonder if she felt obliged to, given her sentence commutation and the disturbing, hare-brained defiance of UK/US collusion to continue torturing him.

This set has completely transformed these standardized city streets and urban noise into something a bit more palatable. Nice, Joe!

Edgar from Maine:

Poking through my bookshelf to find the reference but I have another book that shows how different folk horror is to Europeans and Americans. They're practically different genres. Europeans drill into their own weird pre-Christian past, but the European-Americans were deeply focused on the Native Americans and "things in the woods" that weren't from the old country. Jordan Peele shakes things up by adding an African American perspective in modern times and I think he's fabulous.
