for me, Television was an ultra-important life-changer. Television was the 'bridge' between prog and punk, for me (and many). i'm not so nuts about verlaine's solo career, but it wasn't bad, either.

One of my biggest rock & roll regrets was in the summer of 1977 (The Blackout / The sweltering heat / Son of Sam).
I had the chance to see Television at a "club" in Hartsdale NY located on Central Avenue. The "club" was really a Beefsteak Charlie's. But on weekends it alternated between a Disco and a Rock venue.
I just didn't trust that Television would show up to this place. Syncopation / Vamps - Hatsdale 8/31/77

When I was a kid I didn't dig extended solos. Verlaine and Richard Thompson were the first two guitarists that really perked up my ears. Later I realized there was, sometimes, a similar tone in their playing. Verlaine could have done a great cover of Calvery Cross.

One thing that strikes me about Richard Thompson is how of the shortlist of Gittar Virtuosos he has maybe the least affinity for Blues & channels UK Folk powerfully. Tho really he checks an absurd number of boxes.

Still just doing my artist hustle, neck deep in the crapitalism, but dancing through. I'm actually starting a residency with 9th and 10th graders on Friday that's about them devising short theater pieces about capitalism's "tools of power," so you know. I still love what I do, even if it's a hustle, and I count myself lucky to actually like my work.

During my higher ed days when I'd work with at-risk students, I'd see so many of them struggling with the intro courses for their major, a major that they (or worse, their parents) had chosen because they thought they could get a job in that field. Well, not if you don't do well! Not if you're not interested in it!
