Hey Mike, dig the show! First heard Kick out the Jams on WYSO in 1990. Was blown away

rich the greeb:

I first heard Kick out the jams in the movie I shot Andy Warhol so I was 16 or 17 and as soon as I head the ripping “kick out the jams motherrrfuckkkerrrr!” Intro, I was hooked. It was the scene introducing the Up against the wall motherfukers gang. I may not have bought the kick out the jams album, on CD until a family trip to New Hampshire in a used cd shop. I was very psyched
  3:43pm
rich the greeb:

Side note yo la tengo played the velvet underground in that movie but I didn’t know that our ego they were until the following year when I heard I can hear b the heart beating as one at a listening station at the Sam goody in 6th Ave off west 8th. I was also instantly hooked! Still my fav ylt album

Handy Haversack:

JetBoy, LesleyK, Mike Sin, everyone -- thanks so much, friends. She was a Greenpointer, came out of the back yard full of diseases and not supposed to live out the week and then lived twenty years. She was tough. Old Greenpoint. And our Callipygian.

We're kind of reeling, but it was also time, we know that. So ... grief. But we're glad to be with the other cats and Bagpipe and here with friends and great tunes.

Massive gratitude toward you all.

Avatar 5:30pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Many have done Dylan notably well - BYrdS (different than Bob - hard choice) & Hendrix (about three trax) especially. Other than that ...for all the multitudinous Covers can't think of *one* actually *better* than Dylan's own. Harrison co-wrote with him - that's a bit different...

I used to be quite into Robert Pollard’s side-project Airport 5, and I’m hoping that listening to Airport 77 invokes a logical thematic progression covering the missing airports numbered six through seventy-six.

Handy Haversack:

I won't speak to better or worse, but at this point, with actions Dylan has taken and things he's done, I have a much easier time listening to his songs when a woman covers them than in the original, which often just tend to piss me off and make me question whether he ever actually had any skin in the game. Possibly a lot of this comes from Patti Smith's artist-heroic fill-in for Dylan at the Nobel ceremony. Better, worse, I dunno -- I am not sophisticated enough to say. But I know what I can and can't listen to without gnash-dust of tooth coming into play.
