"I listened yesterday. It's no reflection on you but I could'nt see where you were going or what you were going for. This early seventies thing did'nt get noticed the first time and you talk about friends of like Dealney and Bonnie who had records out like we're supposed to remember who they are. Then you play this long winded free jazz stuff that really grates on my nerves. And that noise without a beat and sounds like someones being pinched. Then you play a reggae song, I think you called it Dub, to what, be cool? You seem to really fetishize the whole folk thing too which is obnoxious to us who don't even care. I liked it when you played that punk song though. I like Joe Belock a lot." (Visit homepage.)

Yes well - if Fusion waters down the complexity of Jazz - & also the power of Rawk - then you have the worst of both worlds. Sometimes however other things happen(ed). Sundays on the Drummer stream you know there is the destination : Out! program - & others besides on this station have helped me realize that 'Bitches Brew' was not such a solitary corner of the universe after all. People have taken it in all kinds of directions - & they are many. & Im thinking not so much of trying to be radio-friendly like 'Fusion' was @ all ...altho one did used to hear Jazz-adjacent Musics that way on the radio (meaning 'normal' commercial radio) - which is a little hard to remember now...

Wynton Marsalis is also full of shit. Wynton thinks that Miles and Coltrane are not "authentic" in the history and significance of jazz.

Remember, Wynton showed up to a Miles show with his trumpet and walked out on stage uninvited and unannounced. Miles walked his ass back offf stage.

Steve Vai's Zappa audition story is also well known.

Basically, Zappa give him a melody, add notes, subtract notes, play it in different time, feel tempo... And then adds a couple more factors that literally makes playing the part impossible.

Zappa's response: "Well, I hear Linda Ronstandt is looking for a guitar player."

Of course, he was poking Vai and Vai passed the audition.

Eek. Yes, it sounds like a joke, but stranger things have happened. Boris renounced his US citizenship in 2017, so he can't run for Congress. It would probably be a simple thing to require it, though. He can't be President, either, for the same reason, but also because there's a 14-year residency requirement.

But he could still get his face on Fox News. Or be in the cabinet.

Q: Why do we even have to think about these things?
A: Because stupid things happen.

"The gold swift moth (Phymatopus hecta) of Northern Europe and Asia has an extremely elaborate mating system with more than seven different courtship strategies. Unusually, both the male and female emit pheromones to attract each other. The males also sometimes form groups, called leks. In the leks, they flutter and perch together, displaying their wings and bright yellow scent brushes (a cluster of hairs on their legs containing pineapple-scented pheromones). Females come to view the lek, then pick their favorite from the group to mate with."
