I love mint for that reason - once it gets started, just leave it alone till it’s time for a drink
  3:33pm wendy del formaggio:

@Wild Neil: Yes it’s true about mint. The kid who mows my sad dry patchy lawn mowed down my new beautiful thriving spearmint a few months ago. It has sprung back up and is laughing at that kid now.

Srsly ! Monks - U.S. G.I.s in Germany - were like Devo in the mid1960s ! & yeah - already rather Motorik ! Before even Velvets perhaps. But then - maybe ChuckBerry was 'Motorik'... Theory of Transportation Rhythms in MusicHistory : Horses, Trains, Cars, Planes, Jets, ??...

RRNov63-I think you were THERE at the conversation along with Handy Haversack I think. Johnny Cash's guitarist sounded like a train on Folsom Prison Blues. 1955?
Monks and their Hate Songs were WAY ahead of their time. I think they were just being contrarian. Think about it, Monks with a message of hate??
  4:11pm The Butterman:

No Sweet Caroline? WTF? This is outrageous!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:12pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Butterman I'm all for it.
...Should remember 'KosmicheRawk' is not only more polite but probly better ...worth a try maybe.
WildNeil - I think being G.I.s in Germany during Nam was a lot of that ...to this day, people get mileage out of being AntiBeatles - tho I'm not sure the Monks ever leaned on that pedal that hard @ the time ?? Germany was a real crucible for TheBeatles matter of fact - YaYaYa ?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm ChukAmok:

Monks were a German concept with an American cast. Everything about them was contrary, and it still totally works. The same can't be said for a lot of other bands, conceptualized or not.
Avatar 👻 4:15pm Bas NL:

This Neuchâtel is nice!
Avatar 4:17pm Wild Neil||Peace All:

Scott? What say YOU?
ChukAmok-interesting theory! The Beatles were actually tough guys from rough neighborhoods I hear (as contrasted to the Rolling Stones)...playing in Germany of all places. Why DID the Beatles play Germany in the first place??
I do NOT like the concept of a guy screaming and rolling on the ground while another guy hits a steel garbage can with an aluminum baseball bat. THAT concept sucks.

Neil, sure maybe, for some. Neu talked more about running water (Cluster too); Kraftwerk of course talked about the road. Dinger called it his "Apache" beat, not motorik.

@WildNeil - Beatles went to Hamburg (described as the LasVegas of Europe) because it was steady abundant work for a novice act. The Liverpudlians needed that - & the Germans needed bands. A real descent into the Plutonian Underworld - & an indispensable residency for developing every kind of band skill.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:50pm ChukAmok:

@RevRab The Liverbirds did the same: Liverpool -> Hamburg.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:09pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...the particular circumstances of how TheBeatles first got booked to go to Hamburg are one of those remarkable coincidences that seem quite fated in their case ! Promotor Alan Williams had gone to Hamburg with a tape to play club owners - but it malfunctioned ! A botched attempt he reckoned... Later he goes down to London just to see what he could do there maybe - & it *just happens* the club owner from Germany was there *@ the same time* remembering that & looking for them in London (he knew not Liverpool) - & they made the deal !...

I think this is the only Tripod Jimmie song I've ever heard, and now I want to start a Tripod Jimmie cover band.

Oh, I love this Cul de Sac record, and I don't think I've listened to it since the Clinton administration.

I obviously don't need to buy anymore records, because I have so many excellent ones I never listen to.

This week's playlist has covered a wide swath of musical genres. A mighty impressive feat, i must say, even though that's pretty much par for the course for a typical SW program.
Thanks, Scott!
