Bratmobile | Bitch Theme | Pottymouth | Kill Rock Stars | 1993 | Bratmobile was an American punk band from Olympia, Washington, active from 1991 to 2003, and known for being one of the first-generation "riot grrrl" bands. The band was influenced by several eclectic musical styles, including elements of pop, surf, and garage rock. Alison Wolfe and Molly Neuman had been raised in activist families: Wolfe had been raised by a lesbian activist mother, and Neuman's father worked for the Democratic National Committee and had introduced his daughter to leaders of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC).Their shared musical influences included punk, hip hop, and the Olympia band Beat Happening. Wolfe said, "Something in me clicked. Like, okay, if most boy punk rock bands just listen to the Ramones and that's how they write their songs, then we'll do the opposite and I won't listen to any Ramones and that way we'll sound different." | 0:14:26 (Pop-up)
KEG | Kids | Kids Single | BMG | 2022 | Brighton-based seven-piece KEG share their frenzied and whip-smart new single ‘Kids’, along with announcing new EP Girders – set for release 2 September on Alcopop! Records/BMG. On Kids, KEG say, “I’ve always had a great relationship with my mum, but there were occasional times where I remember her saying ‘I love you loads, i just don’t like you very much at the moment’. What if your kids grew up the complete opposite of you? What if they like Michael Macintyre and will only eat health foods?“ Also, it's ok to not like your kids...or your parent sometimes. I'm sure we all wonder..."what if we hadn't?"...because not everyone is cut out for parenting. Let's quit the narrative that child rearing is required for existential fulfillment. Because it's not. | * | 0:15:48 (Pop-up)
Neonates | Over Fire | Neonates | Sister Polygon Records | 1993 | Women have the right to agency, autonomy and control over their own lives and minds and identity. Forced motherhood removes all of that autonomy. A mother who doesn't want to be a mother isn't equipped to be a good mother, and don't all children deserve mothers who want to be mothers? Neonates, obviously a play on neonatal...referring to newborn children or other mammals. | 0:19:49 (Pop-up)
Lucrate Milk | Kick Your Ass | I Love You Fuck Off | Bondage Records | 1987 | Uncompromising French Art punk and no wave. The band was formed in 1979 by two former milk delivery men, Lombrick Laul (bass player, and the future designer the band Bérurier Noir), and Masto Lowcost (born Tomas Huser, saxophonist and photographer), The two began stenciling the band's name on the walls of Paris which led to the originality of their look and their approach. The band was later joined by American-born keyboardist and singer Nina Childress, percussionist Raoul Gaboni, and vocalist Helno (born Noël Rota). The story of the band was they originally started as joke and picked which instruments they hated the most, and often were known playing mainly in squats in the Pali-Kao plant of Belleville. The music was often called "Wild, dadaist, juvenile, and anti-commercial", and the band had been likened to UK based punk bands the Slits, Crass and X-Ray Spex. With Laul and Nina's artistic backgrounds, the band also designed their own graphics and videos which often accompanied them when they played live. After the band's breakup, many of the members went on to form various other bands including Bérurier Noir. Nina Childress became a painter, and a member of the art collective the Frères Ripoulin.[4] Helno (rechristened Helno Rota de Lourcqua) became the singer of Les Negresses Vertes; in 1993, he died of a heroin overdose at age 29. Also, try and take away my bodily autonomy and I will kick your fucking ass. | 0:20:23 (Pop-up)
Neo Boys | Under Control | Sooner Or Later | K Records | 2013 | Neo Boys was an American punk band from Portland, Oregon, United States, active from 1978-1983. Considered Portland's first all-female punk band, Neo Boys are noted for their political and feminist lyrics. Hannah Lew, of Grass Widow, wrote: "They created a world I have taken refuge in during times when I felt the effects of narrow attitudes about gender and women's voices in music." We will not be controlled, or oppressed. And as broken as the system is, the one way to affect change is to vote. Push the button. Pull the lever. Affect progress "techically speaking". Every vote counts. | 0:22:22 (Pop-up)
Danny & the Parkins Sisters | War (Is On Your Doorstep) | Danny and the Parkins Sisters | Chapter Music | 2010 | Surrounded by the classic SF punk sounds of the Dead Kennedys, Pink Section, Flipper and the like, Danny & the Parkins Sisters opted instead to head in a very different direction. Brash Arizona transplant Danny Vinik and chic, alluring sisters Debra and Beverly Parkins strummed on detuned guitars, banged on whatever was close at hand, and declaimed hilarious, incisive lyrics dissecting the scenes and tribes around them in visceral early 80s San Francisco. We are now at the point where basic human rights for women is at threat. War is on our doorstep and it is time to act. Trade your pink pussy hat for a vote and metaphorical molotov. It's time to fight. Are you gonna fight? The time for complacency is long gone.... | 0:24:06 (Pop-up)
Kate Bush | Get Out Of My House | The Dreaming | Noble and Brite | 1982 | For this song, It's not about a literal house, haunted or otherwise, and conversely, it's not about mythology or or psychological theory. The house is clearly her, a woman - both her soul and her physical body - and she's "locking out" someone she once loved but now the relationship has failed. The violence of the song may be literal (i.e., physically shutting out a lover who was abusive or has become a stalker) or it may represent a violent internal conflict (i.e., she is fighting her inner temptations to take a lover back when she knows it will not work). Lovers aside, because we as Woman are not ever to be validated by having a partner...the lyrics also apply in a greater sense when we discuss the systemic oppression of women by governments and legislation. Our reproductive rights and autonomy are most precious. It is up to us, the woman, to decide who gets to live in our house...our most sacred house...our bodies. | 0:26:44 (Pop-up)

Trupa Trupa | Twitch | B FLAT A | Glitterbeat | 2022 | Trupa Trupa, an independent band from Gdansk, Poland. With B FLAT A this much acclaimed quartet from Gdańsk have produced their most epic and visceral statement to date. A universe where echoes of Can, Syd Barrett and Fugazi lovingly collide. B FLAT A is informed by Nabokov's novel "Bend Sinister" A nod to the Fall? Perhaps...How are we doing? Go Back To Work....One element of the Gdansk band’s music is always there, in plain sight. Trupa Trupa look to confront evil; exploring, in Kwiatkowski’s words, “the wasteland of human nature where hatred and genocide are not just distant reverberations of Central European history but still resonate in contemporary reality.” | * | 0:41:39 (Pop-up)
Nixer | People Feel | People Feel Single | Nixer | 2021 | Although relatively new to the music scene, the Nixer sound is fully formed. It could be described as 'New Wave' and is a fusion of vocals, guitar and synths. The duo cite influence in their music from acts such as Boy Harsher, Molchat Doma, King Krule, Fontaines D.C., and The Stone Roses. I wish that they gave more creative and inspiring interview, but at the moment, they don't so let's just let the music do the talking, because the music is pretty good. | 0:44:27 (Pop-up)
Sextile | Contortion | Modern Weekend/Contortion Single | felte | 2022 | Defying both conventions and expectations by boldly hurling each out of the window, Los Angeles-based post-punk band Sextile have made an international name for themselves by fusing the raw political kick in the teeth of 70’s punk with the minimalist structures of 80’s synthwave. Following the tragic loss of founding member Eddie Wuebben, Sextile reunited with another former bandmate, Cameron Michel. The time was right to music together once again. This led to the recording of mind-tripping Modern Weekend / Contortion, a two-track EP that navigates the entropy, inertia, and unfiltered exuberance of our digitally and physically divided world—a world that is slowly gathering itself for either a dramatic collision or brand new cohesion. In the two new songs, we hear elements of D.A.F., Surfbort, and Boy Harsher in their sound, as well as The Soft Moon, PIL, Cabaret Voltaire, Cold Cave, and The Pop Group. | * | 0:47:16 (Pop-up)
Working Men's Club | Widow | Widow Single | Heavenly | 2022 | “The first album was mostly a personal documentation lyrically, this is a blur between personal and a third-person perspective of what was going on. “I like the contrast of it being happy, uplifting music and really dark lyrics,” he added. “It’s not a minimal record, certainly compared to the first one. That’s because there’s been a lot more going on that needed to be said.” | * | 0:50:25 (Pop-up)
Lynks | Hey Joe (Relax) | MEN EP | Lynks Corp | 2022 | Before he was Lynks, Elliott Brett was trying to be capital-S Sad. His music from this period, released under his own name before he transformed into a self-described ‘masked drag monster’, has been variously recounted as indie-pop, dream-pop, and folk. Speaking on the new track, Lynks says, “Hey Joe (Relax) is about bringing a guy you’ve been dating to meet your friends, and suddenly clocking that he’s a complete twat. It’s about the moment where your entire perspective about a man shifts. And you see him for what he is; a devil’s advocating, button pushing, confrontational, edgelord. And it’s suddenly totally unthinkable that you ever wanted to shag him.” | 0:54:21 (Pop-up)

"We're engaging with the energy source of the whole universe, we think of it like that. We're playing with a force that is [coming] all the way back from the beginning of life and we feel how profound that is. When we start engaging with creativity and with an understanding of what creativity is, it is like the universe experiencing the act of engaging with itself, as if the experience is suddenly looping back on itself in a way that is very mysterious. That's when it is possible to understand that this is how the whole universe started." |

BAMBARA | Birds | Love Is On My Mind EP | Wharf Cat | 2021 | “‘Birds’ compresses the events of many months into three and a half minutes, spanning time when the couple we follow throughout the record are growing closer. On the train, they fall in and out of sleep, reliving shared moments. Then a childhood memory bubbles up to the surface of the protagonist’s mind, revealing his complex relationship to the idea of love.” | 1:52:59 (Pop-up)
Dot Allison | Love Died In Our Arms (Lee Scratch Perry RMX) | Love Died In Our Arms Single | SA Recordings | 2022 | Prior to his death, the legendary producer chose the song ‘Love Died In Our Arms’ to add his interpretation, along with his signature dub beats, to make this a truly dynamic mix. When asked about the project, Dot stated that she had reached out to Perry about the remix and production work on her new music. “I contacted Lee to ask if he’d consider doing a mix of ‘Love Died In Our Arms’ and got a lovely reply.” Dot continues, “Perry later confirmed the parts had arrived and the mix was going well. So, I was deeply saddened to hear he’d passed soon after and so soon after we’d been in touch. Naturally, I assumed the mix had not been completed and left it at that. So, I was stunned two days later to hear, from Lee’s wife, that my song had been ‘the last thing in his life that Lee worked on.’ As if that wasn’t enough, she responded to my email a day or so later expressing my gratitude and deepest sympathies by sending the finished mix. | * | 1:56:35 (Pop-up)

Stream and donate to Red Cross here: https://belleandsebastian.ffm.to/itsay Belle and Sebastian have pledged to donate all artist income from the song, from streaming and digital sales as well as publishing royalties, to the Red Cross. Donations made via Bandcamp until March 18th will be matched by the UK government as part of the joint appeal with the Disasters Emergency Committee. Donate directly to Red Cross' Ukrainian efforts here: https://www.redcross.org.uk/ukraine From Stuart Murdoch: "When the situation in Ukraine first started to happen it became clear that the lives of the people there, and probably ‘ours’ too, were never going to be the same. The band had just started rolling out tracks for our new album, and it all felt a bit silly to be honest. We had one track called ‘If They’re Shooting At You’, it’s a song about being lost, broken and under threat of violence. The key line is ‘if they’re shooting at you kid you must be doing something right.’ We stand in solidarity with the people of Ukraine and hope that their pain and suffering can be brought to a halt as soon as possible. We got in touch with various photographers and creatives in Ukraine and they generously said that we could put their pictures to music. In creating this we aspire to show a hopeful, defiant side, as well as bringing an awareness to the plight of the people there. We think any way in which we can get behind Ukraine - politically, culturally, practically, spiritually - it must all add up in the end. Together we have to do what it takes to help Ukraine beat this tyranny. Please consider giving to the Disasters Emergency Committee, The Red Cross, or any other humanitarian charity involved in the crisis. If you choose to donate to the Red Cross, please visit here: https://www.redcross.org.uk/ukraine They are part of the joint appeal with the DEC until March 18th, and money donated before then will be matched by the UK government."" | * |
