The pup is my middle son's monster named Frita. As a family, we tend to adopt the unadoptable, and she's pretty close to the worst. We've had her for three years and she stills growls and snaps at my youngest son every day, even when she's sitting on his lap. If it was me she did that to, I'd understand it cuz I'm kind of a jerk, but my son is the gentlest soul you'd want to meet.

Got that right, Rev. She was definitely abused before we got her, and because no one would take her she spent about 6 months in the shelter ,which didn't help matters. @RRN63@12:44, do you have anything that can play a USB stick? My parents drive cars that play USB sticks and live in an area with shit radio. My dad likes 50s-70s classic country (the “classic country” radio stations play Barf Brooks and 90s stuff these days) but the USB stick is so huge that I was basically able to fit a whole 50s-70s classic country radio library onto it. RRN63, that would make a big difference, you went lossless (similar to WAV, but with Apple, proprietary, of course). I do some WAV, but mostly FLAC (the Apple version is ALAC), which does shrink the size of the files (not as much as MP3), but retains all the data. Some folks think WAV sounds better than FLAC, most don't hear much difference.

I came across an interesting site a few days ago. I'm not sure if I have the story totally straight because some of it is beyond my understanding of technical issues, but what I gathered was that the site owner was tired of being fed the same songs over and over on spotify because of their algorithms. He wrote a little program to run in the background, indexing songs on spotify so that he could randomize them. Somewhere along the line he lost interest but never killed the program, so it's been running for years. He recently kindly decided to put it up on the web. All you have to do is click Rediscover and it randomly pulls up a cut from whatever category you've selected. Good way to hear new stuff -- I recognize about 1/3rd of the stuff it pulls for me, if that much www.tapefear.com

a nice thing about it is it gives you a decent length preview that you do not need a Spotify account to access
Avatar 🛎 Swag For Life Member 1:43pm
doctorjazz:

That's interesting, Phillippe, I recently started using Spotify, and that's exactly what I'm finding. The first time through a playlist, it is, "wow, great tune selection", but if you use it a few times, you get the same tunes over and over. I had subscribed to TIDAL for a while, but found it difficult to navigate, and didn't use it enough to justify a subscription. Spotify has a free version (if you don't think of having to listen to commercials as paying), and shows up on my car stereo (which TIDAL didn't, for some reason), so use it sometimes for my 50 minute commute.
Avatar 1:44pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I was all up in this LaunchCast thing. This was before discovering FMU for instance. More recently - my pattern has been Streaming @ home, & Podcasts on foot outside. But in Pandemic Time - I have no Commute. FMU alone keeps me from podcasts I've considered essential. So - if online @ all - no timeslots for any such service.

I don't have room for physical media much since I inherited my parents' LPs, even though I deaccessioned the baby grand player piano.

My late mother-in-law had a full size grand player piano that we had a hell of a time giving away. A George Steck from the 1920s I think.

This IS my favorite; the only reason I made a 30ak for it, heh.

Webhamster Henry:

@MaryWing sure - although it was happier in the summer when the wood swelled and the invisible cracks would fill up. It was electric in the sense that it ran a big vacuum that actually powered all the pneumatics. I know where it is and can get it back if I ever get a big enough place for it (not likely). Meanwhile, here are some crudely recorded rolls from it: jhhl.net...

And no, i couldn't find Billy Paul's version, so coelacanth won't miss it, either.
