Hello, all! Can anyone ID today's mystery LP-under-the-cassettes? If you know the record, it should be easy to recognize.
Avatar 11:58am
Tony Coulter:

Here's a big hint: It's Eastern-flavored UK psych, from the early '70s.
  12:01pm
listener james from westwood:

Happy final day of summer, or Earth, Wind & Fire Day, to those who celebrate!

I don't know the record but what I see of the sleeve looks beautiful.

Good morning! Don't recognize the LP, but judging from the graphics it's clearly Eastern-flavored UK psych, from the early '70s.
  12:05pm
rw:

Well... not clearly UK, but Eastern-flavored psych, from the early '70s anyway.

Yay Dino Dimuro!! Great dude, who contributed to one of the Walls Of Genius compilations.

hi Tony, hi everyone. Trying to think - what act in the UK that was Eastern-flavored UK psych, from the early '70s - did a collaboration with Lawrence Welk?

Enjoying Robot Management. Off to a strong start.

hello, Tony and everyone!
Avatar 12:13pm
Tony Coulter:

Dino's last name sometimes appears as "Dimuro" and other times as "DiMuro." I've just decided to go with the second, more authentically eye-talian variant –– discogs be damned.
Avatar 12:13pm
Tony Coulter:

Hola, spodi!
Avatar 12:16pm
Tony Coulter:

Oh, forgot to mention: The tape on now is the one on your left, with the gent (Dino D.) holding a cassette.
Avatar 12:23pm
Tony Coulter:

Well, since no one seems to know what today's mystery LP is, I'll spill the magic beans: The band is Quintessence, and the album is "Dive Deep," from 1971: Here be the cover: www.discogs.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29pm
Little Danny:

This cat is all over the place, this sounds like several years' worth of recordings.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29pm

I mean that in a good way of course
Avatar 12:35pm

He is definitely eclectic! Also, very prolific -- he has many releases.

Well, I guess it is going up to 83 ° today, so scratch my "Autumn has arrived" comment. Right now it's 61°, though.

@Tony Coulter I can't wait for fall!!! This summer nearly killed me. The heat was murder.

Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:27pm
chresti:

Ha, ok I will LD!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34pm
Little Danny:

Tony, where was this recorded? I really want this to be pure product of weird Florida, but I can't quite triangulate its geographic location from discogs
Avatar 1:41pm
Tony Coulter:

Well, the tape gives Miramar, FL as the address, so Mr. Dimthingshine hadn't yet moved to New York, as he eventually would. On the other hand, at least two of the other people on this tape weren't from Florida, so I'm guessing a lot of this involved long-distance collaboration, by mail.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44pm
Little Danny:

ah, gotcha, thanks!
Avatar 1:45pm
Tony Coulter:

But then again, maybe they all gathered together in a Florida swamp.
Avatar 1:54pm
Tony Coulter:

Just to make things even more confusing: the bass player (Jean Chaine), who might also have been from Florida, later moved to Germany and played with David Moss.
Avatar 1:55pm
Tony Coulter:

The track on now is a James Blood Ulmer cover!
Avatar 2:02pm
HollyRT:

I would bet a lot of money that Tom Smith (of Harry Pussy, TLASILA fame) knew these people.
Avatar 2:06pm
Tony Coulter:

Could be!
Avatar 2:07pm
Tony Coulter:

Jean Chaine is sort of the Eugene Chadbourne of bassists.
Avatar 2:24pm

Ooh yes Only A Mother!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:47pm
coelacanth∅:

ARB i was sad and disappointed last wednesday night. (seriously!) ...after working with severe neck pain, then getting lost trying to find a trader joe's store that ended up not having at least 6 things on my list, then a fat speeding ticket (and another, unnecessary cops-are-dehumanized-adolescent-minded-thugs-that-fuck-you-when-they-can ticket)
...
i like Sam on the drummer stream and was unhappy with that conflict, but sometimes he plays shit i wont listen to and that night was one of those occasions!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:48pm
coelacanth∅:

whew
Avatar 2:52pm
ARB:

Dang, so sorry to here that! I only had one day notice about the schedule change so I didn't get a chance to announce the moving of The Arbitrarium on my final Wednesday night, but glad you found me on the mothership! It's exciting to be there but a little stressful with the obscenity policy, it wouldn't matter at all with Cannibal Stew but with the Arb'm I have to be very careful.
Avatar 2:53pm

Thanks for playing this cassette Tony, cool to hear some Frank Pahl I didn't know about!
