So, this is the story about Ailsa. Her name is pronounced ale-ssa, from Scottish gaelic "fairy", which comes from the island "Ailsa Craig" off the Scottish mainland West coast, where I met my Scottish boyfriend, now husband.
She ist a sweetheart, cute, quirky, clownish and smart. Huge hunting instinct though!
She loves jazz and folk music.
She only gets depressed in this humid summer weather and when thunders roar...

Amanda, Jim, last year our dog Bagpipe met a pig for the first time. It ... awakened things in him! I have a minute-ish-long .mov file of it that I could send you. The sounds he makes are totally unreal. Like a tauntaun trying to find the hyperspace controls. I could send along to you if you want.

Diane, you can reach me at adopt@hcalnj.org for cat advice. For now I can say, don't be surprised if the cat decides to sleep on the windowsill instead of the 4 beds. But he'll probably use the beds, too, if you place them strategically. The scratching post will get a lot of use if it's near a point of entry in the house. Cats scratch to mark territory, and entrances are important places to leave their scent.

Ailsa is a Bedlington (terrier) x Whippet mix, her mum is a Bedlington mix first generation and her dad is a pure whippet so Ailsa has a lot of whippet, i.e. small greyhound in her. She turned out to look like a smaller sized Scottish deerhound. We are members of a local greyhound club where she is lovingly called „bonsai deerhound“ :-)

I have said before she has a hunting instinct - but merely for running! She is too clumsy to actually catch something. But she can run like the wind! We once measured: 53 km/h, so she can run as fast as a car! She loves doing what we call „zoomies“, running and running in big circles :-)

She is so so friendly ( to everything that has - a pulse!) She is a professional „hello dog“. :-)

We used to go to dog school with her but the other dogs never really understood her greyhound mentality („Come on, let’s ruuuuuuuun!“) so we joined the greyhound club where the dogs actually speak her (body) language. Are greyhounds actually dogs? We believe they are a species of their own. :-)
