Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm Handy Haversack:

I don't think I know Unwound at all! Though I'm notoriously ignorant. Digging.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:17pm ChukAmok:

@Handy Not sure where your tastes lay, but Unwound was such an amazing and prolific band both recorded and live. Definitely worth exploring. Endorsed.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:20pm ChukAmok:

Picking up on this theme. After Vern's passing last year I have to make sure this isn't a memorial for a tragedy I am not yet aware of.
Avatar 3:21pm Creamo Coyl:

No, rest easy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm ChukAmok:

*phew*, Justin is still with us, and his pic on Wikipedia is awesome. upload.wikimedia.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:22pm nathan:

@Handy I wholeheartedly recommend New Plastic Idea, it's a great, concise introduction (at least for their early sound)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:22pm Barney Grubbs:

resting easier, though I already looked up Justin, Sara, and Brandt on twitter just to make sure
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23pm ultradamno:

If anything happened to Sara I think I would have heard about it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23pm Threemoons:

CREAMO! BLASTARDS! Tardy to the party; took a late lunch and had to do battle with the USPS and my health insurance.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm Threemoons:

That reminds me...the awful Monday that Bowie's death was announced, I still had to go to the office...and my cafe' that usually has "dueling tip jars" (ie pizza vs. ziti, cats v dogs, etc) had one large label linking both labeled "Bowie."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm Handy Haversack:

Thanks, ChukAmok, nathan!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:30pm ultradamno:

MTG did a great cover of Sub-Mission on a 7" out their (opposite a Ballad Of The Thin Man cover)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:31pm Barney Grubbs:

@Handy: New Plastic Ideas is great. The Singles comp is also nice and gives an overview, if out of order, of how their sound developed & changed over time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm ultradamno:

Charles Grodin, former talk show host, has died however.
Avatar 3:33pm Creamo Coyl:

I did almost open w/ a set of Grodin's mutant disco band plus there's his Beefheart-influenced spoken word album.
Avatar 3:34pm Creamo Coyl:

And of course he was in Zoogz Rift early on.
Avatar 3:35pm Creamo Coyl:

Anyone ever heard his fabled collab w/ Z'ev?
Supposedly United Dairies wouldn't put it out cuz it was too weird.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm ultradamno:

Zoogz and Chuck, legendary comedy duo
Avatar 3:36pm Creamo Coyl:

Lisa Suckdog and Charles Grodin were an item right around Midnight Run.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36pm ultradamno:

Always fond of the bad boys, our Lisa
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm tim from champaign (now washington):

Just jumping in. Hey Creamo and folkses! I missed it what was the Unwound/Replikants occasion?

@Barney - Vern's death hit me hard. I was with Unwound from the very first 45. I bought EVERYTHING on vinyl as it came out. I unfortunately lost possession of those records sometime ago so I got the Numero Unwound box sets after Vern died.
Avatar 3:37pm Creamo Coyl:

But seriously, Grodin did work for the CIA.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38pm BigP0ppa:

Hold on, Charles Grodin was 86! That means he is 56 in Beethoven. The man had good genes
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38pm paddy in matawan:

Midnight Run was awesome.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39pm paddy in matawan:

RIP Alonso Mosley, Yaphet Kotto
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39pm TomDash:

this comp has been on my radar for a while...thanks for previewing it for me! ha - I have a Motor Totemist Guild single and LP and they haven't really grabbed me yet...was curious about other bands on the label - 5UUs etc...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40pm ultradamno:

Wasn't he in a mismatched, buddy partner situation with Jeff "Skunk" Baxter?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40pm tim from champaign (now washington):

Creamo - SOme Blind Idiot God would go good with this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41pm Barney Grubbs:

Was Grodin the secret second Garfunkel? www.discogs.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm ultradamno:

5UUs are connected to MTG in some way I'm pretty sure, or maybe I'm just thinking of U-Totem
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:43pm ultradamno:

OK, here we go "U Totem was the avant-rock supergroup that combined personnel from Los Angeles' 5uu's and the Motor Totemist Guild. " www.last.fm...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Charles Grodin = Mac & Dennis
Josh Groban = Dee
Avatar 3:45pm Fox:

Yessssss to these sounds.
Avatar 3:45pm Creamo Coyl:

Grodin sculpted The Thinker, don't forget.
Avatar 3:46pm Creamo Coyl:

Based on that alone, he should be in the Rock n' Roll Hall Of Flame.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46pm paddy in matawan:

Groden makes me crave gratin gratis
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47pm ultradamno:

Olivia Rodrigo is on the cover of the new NME. Which is shocking. There's still an NME?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:48pm ultradamno:

That's crazier than learning there's still an MTV to throw an awards show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm Barney Grubbs:

@Tim: beat happening played at my college (maybe early 1992?) with unwound opening & being a young dumbass, I decided to sit outside drinking a 40 during the opening band but got lured in at the end by a beautiful squall of feedback (and then fell asleep during beat happening's set). I bought the caterpillar 7" and everything after (and (almost) never again skipped an opening band)

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm tim from champaign (now washington):

@Barney - that's a really cool story. I only got to see Unwound once during their Repetition tour and never got to see Beat Happening.

Avatar 4:20pm Morris from Dresden:

I always played Aphex Twins's Girl/Boy EP at 33rpm. Later saw it's to be played at 45 but couldn't get used to it that way.
Avatar 4:20pm Creamo Coyl:

Nah, but SC is giving a choice between firing squad and electric chair to make up for a lack of lethal injection drugs (management apologizes for the inconvenience).
Avatar 4:22pm Smurph:

Back when, we used to play "Kooler Than Jesus" by My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult at 45pm as an attempt to make techno when we had none.

"Down Under"by Men At Work becomes a reggae song when played at 33.
  4:26pm Morgan:

didnt think we were going to be shaking our asses to spin age blasters but here we are
  4:27pm Rando1:

Where do you think the 'spin' part comes from?

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm tim from champaign (now washington):

  4:58pm Morgan:

that station id reminded me of fishbone’s modern industry
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59pm paddy in matawan:

I think Schlarping used to do that sometimes. I liked it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:02pm Handy Haversack:

FINALLY able to sit down with a drink and WFMU! Sheesh, some days.

Creamo, I might have a line on unloading some AD&D stuff that I don't use anymore. Could be a decent chunk of change if it happens.
  5:05pm yippie:

this show makes me drink heavy cream
Avatar 5:07pm Creamo Coyl:

Sounds intriguing, Handy.

Just try to make sure it doesn't go down like the one time OJ tried to buy his shit back from those dudes in Vegas.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:10pm DJ Guin:

either Handy's mate has insured him or he's into Dungeons & Dragons...
Avatar 5:12pm Creamo Coyl:

All of the above.
Avatar 5:12pm Creamo Coyl:

But, Advanced. Just to clarify.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:13pm DJ Guin:

you mean he and OJ are still looking for the responsible party? good to know, Creamo. i will call off my search,
Avatar 5:14pm Creamo Coyl:

OJ is a lich.
It's not a compliment.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:15pm tim from champaign (now washington):

I think WFMU needs to take an AD&D policy out on Handy. That guys too valuable to WFMU to lose!
Avatar 5:15pm Creamo Coyl:

This is actually some great AD&D music, esp. if you're traveling between planes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17pm Handy Haversack:

Hard to turn, but lots of treasure!

In my game, currently all the higher-level characters are in poison comas and all the scrubs are trying to figure out the best way to turn off the giant war robot and/or blow up the space castle.

Creamo, also, there's a whole thing now with releasing modules on vinyl! I will get you some links. Wild stuff. I sent one to the station last summer, actually.
Avatar 5:18pm Creamo Coyl:

I kinda wanna play.
But only if I can take acid first.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:18pm DJ Guin:

okay...this is all way above my intellectual level. @tim -- be sure to sell Handel a solid policy.

Acid would only be a help in our game!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:24pm tim from champaign (now washington):

This is totally Fabio music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:25pm Handy Haversack:

Is anyone ever really *accidentally* dismembered? I mean, I ask you.
Avatar 5:26pm Fox:

I know adverts are SUPER tailored to users, but seriously, it's crazy. I mean, you aren't all getting ads for disabled-people robot arms modeled by hot guitar playing androgynes, right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:27pm ultradamno:

I think that happened in Tucker & Dale vs Evil
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:28pm Handy Haversack:

This is the one I sent to the station: www.sjgames.com...

Fox, you just made me seriously consider dumping my ad blocker to find out!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:30pm tim from champaign (now washington):

@Handy - It depends on who you ask. If movies have taught me anything, usually not. Self-inflicted, gambling debts, et al.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:30pm Handy Haversack:

And who wins? Big Insurance!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:34pm tim from champaign (now washington):

That should be a Fuzzy Glove show. Ken and Andy try to "accidentally" dismember each other to see if they can pull one over on the insurance company.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:35pm Handy Haversack:

And then they can do a show where they can't touch or hold anything.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:36pm tim from champaign (now washington):

That sounds about right.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:36pm ultradamno:

How dismembered are we talking? A lot of people have cut off stuff most people would miss.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:36pm ultradamno:

Like that rapper awhile back.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:38pm ultradamno:

This guy www.eonline.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:38pm tim from champaign (now washington):

@Ultra - that's really up to Ken and Andy to decide. Who am I to suggest ideas for the Fuzz Glove Show?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:39pm ultradamno:

I'll never know about that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41pm Handy Haversack:

I think dismemberment needs to be in the multiple members removed bucket. Nothing you can do while cutting an onion (still hurts, BTW). Like when you're dismembered, what's left looks significantly reduced.

There are tables for this in some D&D flavors.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:45pm ultradamno:

Seems like was an Amok catalogue or something (maybe something from Feral House) with anecdotes of extreme personal paring.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:46pm dale:

this is a great set.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:46pm tim from champaign (now washington):

I think you're right, ultradamno. Despite my yucks on the subject, body modification is not my bag at all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:53pm Handy Haversack:

Please keep your limbs inside the Spin Age Blaster at all times.

Thanks, Creamo! Excellent stuff. Really dug this last set, too.
