Avatar 9:38am Bob Brainen:

Hey Cooh John!
  9:39am Kpx:

There's a upside and a downside to having a birthday, the downside is that your another year older, The upside is that it's a whole year before you dread the coming of the next one.
  9:39am andy fuchs:

I'm betting that's been done already. I'll look around for you. I'm betting Roland or Quilter or someone did it already. I'm more a tube guitar amp guy. While there may be bass amps in the company future, I'm doubting major effects in them.
Avatar 9:41am Bob Brainen:

Thanks andy. Yeah bass and built in effects don't seem to go together too often. I wanted something I could run bass or guitar thorough.
Avatar 9:42am Bob Brainen:

Kpx, the best news is if you're still around when the day comes!
Avatar 9:43am TDK60:

And why would this be, Bob, half a century after Jack Casady and Jack Bruce, brought bass forward?
Avatar 9:45am Bob Brainen:

TDK60, Andy makes (awesome) amps and I'm looking for something out of the ordinary.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:45am Rick from SC:

GM Bob and all. This Church track is perfect for this morning.
Avatar 9:47am Bob Brainen:

Hey Rick from SC, glad you like!
  9:47am Dennis Diken:

Hi Andrew In Toronto!
Avatar 9:48am TDK60:

I guess it's just in most music bass is still a background thing. I do recall though some of those new wave bassists, circa '79 -'85, using a lot of "chorus" or "flange."
  9:48am Kpx:

BB - Good pernt, that's definitely an upside. Happy belated birthday.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:48am JohnEBGood:

Good Day Bob and FMU family. Your smooth demeanor and intellect is truly appreciated 🍻
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:48am Gina Bacon:

This is nice. I'm looking at my neglected dulcimer in the corner....
Avatar 🥁 9:49am wmfromdumont:

I've been enjoying the Steve Ferguson stuff. Really nice.
Avatar 9:49am Bob Brainen:

OK folk, here's a question. Do you think bands from the 60s that had a lot of hits and are known as "singles bands" are less respected than bands that are known for their albums?
Avatar 9:50am Bob Brainen:

Thanks JohnEBGood!
Gina, that neglect is easy to remedy!
Yeah wm, I love this album!
Avatar 9:51am TDK60:

I dig The Church. Still together, I think.
  9:52am Jeff:

Not less respected by me! Tommy James & the Shondells (or Tommy James + whoever was on the session) being a prime example. Rascals too!
Avatar 9:53am Bob Brainen:

I was in a Facebook back and forth yesterday, and someone said that bands like the Dead, Doors & Byrds were respected now, while bands like the Lovin' Spoonful and CCR, were not. Assuming you agree, is it because we have a prejudice against bands known more for singles than albums?
Avatar 9:53am TDK60:

Bob, maybe the Young Rascals were both? Lots of singles and good albums too
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:53am Joe M:

Yeah, I think bands that are pegged as "singles" bands sometimes get overlooked for their albums. The Lovin Spoonful come to mind.
Avatar 9:53am Bob Brainen:

I think The Church are still at it, yeah.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:53am steveo:

Probably, Bob. my first thought is to think of the Beatles, who I think started out as a singles band and then "matured" into an album band. I guess it shows a stylistic coherence? Interesting question, I'm curious to hear what others have to say.
Avatar 9:56am Bob Brainen:

It's hard to gauge all this! I think Tommy James is thought of as lightweight in comparison to others.
Rascals, is a good one. Again, not sure how to judge current "ratings" of these bands.
Avatar 🥁 9:57am wmfromdumont:

I think at an earlier point in time that question was more relevant. My sense is younger people don't have those preconceptions about that time period. It's refreshing.
Avatar 9:58am Bob Brainen:

In San Fran bands, I think Beau Brummels and Sopwith Camel are under-rated, under-valued. Both had hits and put out great albums but are thought of as "singles bands."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59am JohnEBGood:

Yes, I love Paul Revere, The Association, and Spanky and Our Gang
Avatar 9:59am Bob Brainen:

wm, so CCR, Spoonful etc. are judged as highly as the others?
Avatar 9:59am TDK60:

What a perfect and hot track! (Yardbirds)

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09am listener 126464:

Avatar 10:10am Bob Brainen:

Yeah it's all personal preference, Dead resonate much more w/me, up to 1971
or so, than Tommy James, but I like some of his stuff. Hey, there is no right or wrong in opinions.
Avatar 10:11am Bob Brainen:

Good morning listener 126464!

  10:16am Late Bloomer:

Loud and clear👍
  10:17am Kpx:

Steveo makes a good point, I don't think it's quite that black and white. Most bands or even solo artist all started out as singles, until the concept of 8,10, or 22 minute songs started to appear along with a crap load of single track's jammed on a single LP or double LP gatefold album. And so inspired a lot of artist to one degree or another started to attempt making a well known great album of their own, which a lot had singles hits, so you see it's really a gray area because it's just a mix.
  10:17am Crei6hton:

Morning WFMU!

Avatar 10:23am Bob Brainen:

Avatar 🥁 10:24am wmfromdumont:

Strat-East stuff was easy to come by in the 80's. Much of it still sealed.
Avatar 10:25am Bob Brainen:

wmfromdumont, yeah it hadn't become a "thing" yet, wasn't sampled widely.
  10:25am (Mr) BIll:

The lyrics plus the chat have me thinking of "Someday Never Comes."
  10:25am Kpx:

BB - yeah I know, I was a little incoherent there, but I think maybe you got the gist of it. Or maybe I didn't quite grasp the meaning of your question, that I'm embarrassed to admit to.
  10:26am bigplanetnoise:

Bob - unfortunately not. Just the two singles. Although everyone agrees (Snuff Garrett, James, etc) that they did record an entire albums worth, it’s never been uncovered. Not at WB, not in Snuff’s vaults, so it’s anyone’s guess as to what and where... but, could you imagine?!?
