Options April 17, 2021: Midnight Matinee: Byrne After Reeding
John Schnall’s Midnight Matinee returns to the WFMU airwaves with Byrne After Reeding. A relatively minor Coen Brothers’ exploration of espionage, plastic surgery, computer dating and gym denizens is turned into an ambitious Midnight Matinee fugal event. Exposition, development and recapitulation wound tightly together around a base of Lou Reed. And, after we Reed, we Byrne. Hosted by John Schnall.

  12:09am schnallity:

Pro tip: songs (with Lou music) have capital letters in their names (like Lactose Reflux) while dialog does not (like The cheeses). There will be a test on this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09am chresti:

This is hilarious.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09am Ken From Hyde Park:

Hi, rich & John and all. G'day, Scott. How's your carcass?
  12:11am hevykevy:

oh man i only thought this type of thing was on moonlight sonatas. ok just re watched this within the last yr hittin the spot
  12:12am rich:

so schnallity not having seen the film if lactose reflux plays a part does acid intolerance also?
  12:12am rich:

good morning ken
  12:13am schnallity:

One should never be intolerant. Acid is our friend.
  12:15am rich:

so i’ve heard (from the sweet chorus of voices in my head)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15am Scott67:

G'day Ken, sunning my carcass & basting internally with beer.

  12:16am schnallity:

@Rich: this show completely replaces your need to watch the movie. Or, for that matter, the sequels: Cale after Nicoing and Maureen Tucker after Sterling Morrisoning.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20am coelacanth∅:

greetings rich & Tamar and schnall and inevitable sorrel cartilages
  12:20am schnallity:

In music, a fugue (/fjuːɡ/) is a contrapuntal compositional technique in two or more voices, built on a subject (a musical theme) that is introduced at the beginning in imitation (repetition at different pitches) and which recurs frequently in the course of the composition. It is not to be confused with a fuguing tune, which is a style of song popularized by and mostly limited to early American (i.e. shape note or "Sacred Harp") music and West Gallery music. A fugue usually has three main sections: an exposition, a development and a final entry that contains the return of the subject in the fugue's tonic key. Some fugues have a recapitulation.[1]
  12:21am rich:

maclise after yuleing too?
  12:21am rich:

hello aitch and coel
  12:22am annette:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23am coelacanth∅:

  12:24am rich:

good evening annette
  12:24am schnallity:

This show will be studied by future generations, or maybe aliens. They will then decide, yes, this society must be destroyed. Oh well. We tried.
Avatar 12:27am Andrew S:

when i used to be on facebook mo tucker gave me shit because i posted that it took me 20 mins to show my mom how to open a medicine bottle and that i could teach a chimp in 5. I guess i deserved it.

Andrew there's no shortage of things we could give mo tucker shit about
  12:34am rich:

to be destroyed by aliens in the future is the dream of this society as it will mean that humanity survives into the future, doesn’t unknowingly commit some form of mass suicide and can ultimately blame someone/something else. i guess if we get to that point we win? and thanks schnallity for doing your part

@rich: 2005. She played her double-bass. I played a coronet in a basin of water (w/ a mic for fx), percussion, and firecrackers. I have refused to release any of my recordings except to people I know personally (pissed off many band members). I have the recording on mini-disc.

another week has ended and so has this show. have a safe, healthy, and happy week. thank you for listening and remember, remember those glorious days of our youth, gamboling amongst the fertile fields, nary a care in the world, free of thought, free of concern, ignorant in our bliss, senses working overtime (though a different overtime than the overtime of our teens, twenties, and beyond), no chemicals needed, the world opening up to you, teasing you with possibility, leading you deeper and deeper into the labyrinth where, lost, we spend the rest of our lives. not too shabby as far as labyrinths go, however. personally i like my labyrinth. it’s comfortable in its own way. the minotaur cleans up after itself, so that’s a plus, and if i get lost eventually i’ll find something to occupy my thoughts. so my advice is to enter the labyrinth and enjoy it as your enjoy life. but like life don’t just enjoy it, respect it. it’s your labyrinth, if you lay some string behind yourself to retrace your steps and find your way out don’t just leave it there, pick it up on your way out. respect the labyrinth and the labyrinth respects you. stay tuned for joe.

I missed not hearing the Fugs song at the end, tho.
