As Zappa noted - the cigar-chewing Suits had no idea what was going on with Counter Culture - so @ 1st they signed all kindsa stuff. Later - they hired someone 'Hip' to decide - & it went to hell...

It was on KHJ, which even to the young me seemed like the less interesting of the three AM rock stations in L.A. KRLA, KFWB, KHJ. Four if you count KBLA which had a weak transmitter and you could only hear in Burbank, I'm told. I was just walking around in that backyard awhile ago, looking at a tree that I have to tend to.
