@devlan mostly just googling 'common garden snail' and picking ones that are at the right angle for the painting, def want to have a bunch crawling all over eachother

Avatar 12:24am Scott67:

Mighty fine drifting along song.

Bri! Your scenario sounds more appealing than working at a computer and hearing Better Off Alone, but things here could be far worse!

I would have clicky-starred サーカディアンリズム if I could. Anyway, I think this show has the best youtube leads!
Avatar 1:00am northguineahills:

*puts my hiragana hat on*, the japanese artist track was sakadianrizumu, I think it means something like circadian rhythm (something I've had trouble w/ mine lately).
Avatar 1:01am northguineahills:

the artist name was sakadianizumu.....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04am diciassette:

Nice hiragana parsing!

Tonight's set is going so good! Anyone wanna cyber-poem over bubbles and blips (and maybe a little DMT)?

I will horrify and delight at the same time a bit later...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05am diciassette:

Avatar 1:06am northguineahills:

I've had some beer, so, take it my translation w/ a grain of salt. (maybe, sakadiani -zuma)

  1:19am pp:

is Cheryl slowed down?
  1:20am BH:

I wasn't sure if the opening was Zoe on mic or somebody slowed down
Avatar 1:22am northguineahills:

@BH: See Dj Screw's mixes (RIP), from Houston....
Avatar 1:23am northguineahills:

whoops, meant pp...
Avatar 1:23am mb:

Diane Kamikaze was the Queen of the 33rpm slow downs but there was another FMU DJ that was doing it before her on here. I'm thinking John Allen dabbled.
  1:29am pp:

thanks, all good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30am Ken From Hyde Park:

Hi, Zoe and all. Marty McSorley slows some tracks down.
I had an idea earlier to add a dash of cinnamon to some hot chocolate. Couldn't really taste the cinnamon, but it didn't ruin the drink.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32am diciassette:

Some hot chocolate at 33 rpm sounds good!
Avatar 1:42am Ole 'Rick:

Avatar 1:45am coelacanth☯:

i've heard several show hosts play 45s at 33rpm. maybe Diane did it first? she's been around longer than most other fmu people who are around now. i think i remember Ken Freedman doing that in the 80s.
...but i'm sure it's been done for most of the station's existence.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47am diciassette:

I remember DJs playing a record and 33 rpm then then suddenly 45 rpm, and vice versa
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49am diciassette:

who the hell typed that! ^
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50am RomanDogBird:

who indeed
Avatar 1:53am coelacanth☯:

Zoe's bidding to be the queen of playing 33s at 45
Avatar 1:53am Scott67:

Oookaaayyy!? Chipmunks on E's
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57am diciassette:

They don't really label records these days, and sometimes I have to play them at both speeds and decide which one I like best.

Disco Clone, G'day from Bendigo, Australia.
  2:02am rw:

coel, not to be a geek about it but remember Mary Wing playing records backwards? (Others too, but Mary especially. She'd do a Name That Tune thing)
  2:04am rw:

And four speeds? I remember 33, 45 and 78. Was there a 10? I remember going to my friend Mike's house and listening to Gregorian Chant records and listening to them at slow speed... Must have been something slower than 33...
Avatar 2:04am coelacanth☯:

yeah rw why'd she stop doing that? it was great!
Avatar 2:05am coelacanth☯:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05am RomanDogBird:

let the rhythm hit em
  2:05am rw:

The station upgraded the turntables and they no longer play in reverse. Oh yeah. 16!!
  2:06am rw:

Life was so much better when we were kids.
Avatar 2:06am coelacanth☯:

some say that was just for spoken word records but i've owned 16rpm classical music records
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:08am diciassette:

It seems counterintuitive, since fidelity increases with RPM, but I can see how they'd want to fit long classical pieces on a disc.
Avatar 2:08am coelacanth☯:

she can give me a list and i'll make a cassette tape of backwards songs for her!
(but then i wont get to play)
  2:08am rw:

Gregorian chant at 16 with a dimmable green lightbulb. Those were the days! Ha!
Avatar 2:10am coelacanth☯:

ha yeah i put on some Wagner, which is a sludgefest to begin with, on 16 - made gregorian chants seem like rockabilly
Avatar 2:12am Disco Clone:

Hey Scott! We sure get the best shows during our evenings right?
Avatar 2:12am northguineahills:

Back from my walk, thanks for keeping the bpms up, got a decent workout.
Avatar 2:13am coelacanth☯:

diciassette i'm guessing (and that's all) that 16rpm music records were either a failed experiment, or something marketed as "budget" records, as you could fit on 1 record what might've taken 3 or 4 78rpm records
Avatar 2:15am northguineahills:

For the Mexican analog for Houston's chopped and screwed, see Monterrey's cumbia rebajada scene. (I slow down many cumbia records, my turntables goes w/ it's sliders from 16.5 to 78 rpms). Then, some artists actually recorded cumbia that slow....
Avatar 2:15am Scott67:

DC, sure do mate! You will hear a lot of Kiwi & Aussie bands on all 4 of the WFMU Streams. The Drummer Stream even has 2 Kiwi DJ's. One in Melbourne & one in Texas. 😎🤙☀️
Avatar 2:16am northguineahills:

@coel: MBV's Loveless at 16.5 rpms sounds like death metal....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:16am diciassette:

ngh, have you see I'm No Longer Here? And how the heck to play MBV at 16.5 rpm?
Avatar 2:17am Toutevoix:

foggy dawn light rising slowly upon milano
is it some kind of pollution or dreamy wheather calling a walk out there in the parallel world slowly fading to grey...A weird time in which we are alive, is everything fucked up? Soundwaves in my cosmic coffee thanks for playing here
Avatar 2:19am northguineahills:

@diciassette: Yes! I saw it when it first came out and recommended on Uncle Michael's show when he was playing cumbia. For everyone else, it's a beautiful movie of what Mexicans have to deal w/ in the US, and the music is amazing (filmed in Mexico City and NYC).
Avatar 2:20am northguineahills:

(the sndtrk is cumbia rebajada....)
Avatar 2:21am northguineahills:

(and I have over half of sntrk already)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:22am diciassette:

Avatar 2:22am northguineahills:

It might still be on Netflix...
Avatar 2:23am coelacanth☯:

i don't have the option now to play MBV at 16...though i could play it at something less than 1/2 speed on my cassette 4-track; i'm sure it's not as slow as a 45 at 16.
Avatar 2:23am nodal points:

zoe! I've painted six snails so far, roughly "life" size, realizing the joy of painting snails at this scale is getting lost in many varying different spirals. difference and repetition. thinking about starhawk, thinking about you. Thank you for thee optimal soundtrack!
Avatar 2:24am Toutevoix:

...And I know no one can sing the blues
Like Blind Willie McTell
Avatar 2:30am nodal points:

One feature of a cat with white fur (she looks similar to the white cat in the "Women yelling at a cat" meme) is that it's easy to figure out where she is despite limited lighting. Especially compared to darker fur colors.
Avatar 2:45am nodal points:

yes! annihilation time! a friend gave me this record and it was so scratched it literally skipped on every song but this one. BH: i've always relied on cats eyes to find them in the dark
