Last time I was in Central Park (~10 years ago) it was January and it was so warm I was walking around in a t-shirt and sandals.

Hi all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13pm

northguineahills, that's so cool! I had the honor of mixing a couple of sessions with Sharon for Soundcheck. She was such a great person.

doctorjazz, you can't go wrong with Taj's upbeat music!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm

Pulled out out because of Howard Johnson, what a crazy idea, putting together a blues/soup band with a four tuna gotten section!

Love the mood and that David Darling and John Coltrane come together. Saw Taj Mahal at the Filmore with Roberta Flack (1971). It was an electrically beautiful concert that went on for hours.

Yes! It was phenomenal. Leon Thomas is incredible, whether he played with Pharaoh Sanders or solo.

I've apparently done the right thing today: I avoided the NY Times and turned Irene's show on. Does anyone remember the '80s mag "Lies of the Times"? Its title was in the same germanic font as the Times's, and it specialized in pointing out -- you guessed it -- all the lies that appeared in the NY Times.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55pm
Irene Trudel:

My work today seems totally on target, watchpocket. Thanks!

I deal with the news the way we do with other messy, but necessary chores one has to do - like bathrom functions, floor scrubbing, etc. That is, you get in there, do what you have to do... then move on

An alternative framework of views c/o MLK, Jr.: https://quillette.com/2021/01/17/three-plane-rides-and-the-quest-for-a-just-society/

@Dean Judging from that Fillmore East playbill, one might think that colorful psychedelic posters had become passe by '71. It looks -- strangely -- more like a wedding invitation.

@dean - thanks, I'll read it later tonite

Yes, thanks Dean for that MLK, Jr. link.
  2:09pm
Dean:

You're welcome, all. It's a great read, introduces little known background about King, and engages trending ideologies of our time.

Here's an ad for Fillmore East just a month prior to the show with Roberta Flack: https://concerts.fandom.com/wiki/January_15-16,_1971_Fillmore_East,_New_York_City,_NY?file=Image-1494882724.jpg Slight flourish, but not much. fred, Lonnie Holley is something live, saw him at Cafe Oto an arms length away. On the day that Nelson Mandela passed though we did not know it at the time.

Dean:

For harp, my go-to has been Andrew Lawrence-King, whose two early solo recitals are amazing, Harp Music of the Italian Renaissance, and The Harp of Luduvíco. His ensemble work is spectacular, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:18pm
Irene Trudel:

Mary and Lonnie are both beautiful and worth seeing live if you get a chance. Their performances are so totally in the moment. Dean, I'm not familiar with Andrew. Thanks for the suggestion.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:18pm
listener james from westwood:

And there's the other massive soul booster of an album in my lineup!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:21pm

@Dean Bill Graham clearly didn't bother to find great poster designers in NYC. Odd, in that they surely existed.

Lawrence-King's discography is vast. He plays on one of the shortlist of records I consider perhaps the very best of all time, Tragicomedia's Notenbüchlein Für Anna Magdalena Bach – A Selection
