Larry, just so.

Avatar 3:52pm

I noticed that a lot of those soft rock artists, not all of them obviously but a good number of them signed under Warner Bros records at the time. It was in beautiful downtown Burbank, which explains the 70s California sound.

Hi Funky! Yea, we had the big fancy stereo. Floor speakers, cassette deck, turntable, when I was 15 I thought it was the bomb.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm
Little Danny:

I always thought Gary Wright was British...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm
Jeff Ash:

Gary Wright was so popular (or was it me?) that I could not find a date and had to eat a ticket when he played on my college campus in January 1978. Starcastle was the opening act. A most '70s pairing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm

Had heard the term but wasn't sure what Yacht Rock actually was. Thanks for helping to define it and for picking the cream of the crop for us

It took me many years to find my way to this sound. Now I love it.

Funky16Corners:

@Danny - Steely Dan is like the old story about the blind men and the elephant. They all think it's something different. My wife and I are both huge Steely Dan fans, but I've met people who cannot tolerate them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm
Funky16Corners:

I used ot have a 12" of this song with an instrumental dub. I wish I still had it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm
Yvang:

Why so many people seem to hate so much Steely Dan?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm
ike p:

huh - backing vocals don henley and glenn frey
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm
Yvang:

I this the perfectionism?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm
Funky16Corners:

@Yvang - I think, despite their mountain of hits, they are too sophisticated for some people, too R&B/jazz for others.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm
Funky16Corners:

@Ike - I didn't know that!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm
Yvang:

They do not have the Rock n' roll vibe...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm
Little Danny:

Even at the height of my teenage rejection of classic rock, I actually still liked certain Steely Dan tracks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm
ike p:

@larry truthfully i didn't either - you sent me down the wikipedea (whatever) rabbit hole looking for michael mcdonald background vocals, i know he's everywhere :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm
Funky16Corners:

@Yvang - But they do, if you go back to the early records.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22pm
Funky16Corners:

@Ike - I could do a very long set of songs that he sings back up on, from Steely Dan to Christopher Cross, to James Ingram and on and on
Avatar 4:22pm
Erica:

The band's sound is a mix of blues rock, jazz fusion and funk.
