Favoriting Acid Jazz Hands with Bronwyn Bishop: Playlist from June 19, 2020 Favoriting

Bronwyn Bishop's avatar View Bronwyn Bishop's profile Favoriting

Musical theater from off the beaten path. Obscure and unusual show tunes from within the canon and without, flops, failures, and the newest works from up-and-coming artists—plus tried-and-true hits. Also, occasional appearances from songs that are not show tunes (but only if they go really well with show tunes).

Dear fabulous darlings, I have to confess this show will be a little short due to technical difficulties! It will end at about 8:52 but I encourage you to listen to the fabulous Drummer Stream until at least 9pm

That sounds like an amazing trip

I think I would get a taco in the future first. Like what do future tacos look like? They are probably some kind of floating bubble.

I'd stay long enough to witness Waller teaching Armstrong Ain't Misbehaving.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:24pm
Sweet Corn Lizzie:

Interesting Dean! I was sad I couldn't hear DA the DJ this morning. Hope he'll be on next week.

I have minor Eubie Blake story. I was in line to see One Mo' Time in New Orleans just as it was starting to get recognized. A lady cut to the front of the line, interrupting the transaction in progress at the box office. We were all thinking WTF, who does she think she is. After a short conversation she turned back towards the back of the line and said. Come on Eubie. I loudly laughed meaning to ridicule the pushy lady, Eubie? Eubie! The one Eubie I know of is Eubie Blake. A elderly man softly said to me, pardon me, wanting to pass. Yup. It was Eubie Blake.

The Rock 'n' Soul Radio stream has just as magically disappeared.
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 8:04pm

Weird, first time to hear something from the Louis Jordan inspired show. Seems they missed opportunity making the music sound like dixieland instead of his innovative jump blues.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:06pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

I have to admit I had never heard of Louis Jordan before becoming familiar with Five Guys Named Moe and still haven't heard him performing any of his songs. I need to fix that stat

You should hear the Pearl Records transcriptions of NY stage show recordings from the early 20th century.

Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 8:31pm

Dean is right - The Pearl series was comprehensive but I never got around to buying them. I have some music hall ones and as I may have mentioned before, I used to have piano rolls with songs from shows people have more or less forgotten.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:31pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

I love your piano rolls! I played one of them once
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 8:32pm

I wish I had that machine still - no room for it in my life. The rolls alone were 14 boxes.

A Grammy winnin' collection is the excellent Wizard of Oz set from Hungry Tiger Press. This is not the 1939 show - this is the 1903 show and realted Oz shows of that era.
