Correct me if I'm misinformed - but a Music that has many glissandos on an instrument that doesn't... interesting to hear other aspects of it emphasized then...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:46pm

You're not at all misinformed, RevRab
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:48pm

I think the speed of some of the trilling in each of these tracks is a sort of (musical) identity assertion w/in the confines of the boxiness of the piano's 12 tone rigidity

Tiger Beat mag goes back to 60s. My sisters had a few issues. I had to ask with great humility if I could read them. They held the power. Permission not always granted. Coverage of pop stars and groups was predictably gushy and breathless and tabloidy. Teenbloid publishing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:34pm

ngh i remember the magazine! my older sister got it, likely to gawk at images of Davy Jones and the mod squad; but then my older brother showed me that there were song lyrics in the back, so i started stealing them for myself!

My glimpses were a few years earlier -- Beatles, Monkees, BeeGees, etc. Don't remember the lyrics section. I woulda been all over that.
Here in the stack of coffee table shelf junk, I do have a few lyrics publications from the 40s -- Hit Parader and others, full of standards and less enduring entries. We can give those a road-cruise workout.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46pm
coelacanth∅:

i could be mistaken. there were a few other rags in the mix. "teen beat" for one, and i think maybe hit parader was still around then, catering to the later generations of teenyboppers.
Avatar 9:48pm
