Otis!

Nah, he's asleep on the couch, that was the turntable.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 11/21/17 10:05pm northguineahills:

palabara, Kris!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 11/21/17 10:07pm Uncle Michael:

NGH, a facelift?
Avatar Tue. 11/21/17 10:08pm Kris Holmes:

Hi NGH
Avatar Tue. 11/21/17 10:08pm Kris Holmes:

I have five turntables & all five need servicing apparently :(
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 11/21/17 10:10pm northguineahills:

tru dat, UM!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 11/21/17 10:10pm JtotheK:

salutations, all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 11/21/17 10:11pm Uncle Michael:

DJ'ing out must be rough on gear. Mine never travel so I can get by with my knock-offs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 11/21/17 10:11pm Little Danny:

Hello Kris and friends
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 11/21/17 10:11pm northguineahills:

I need to find the power cord to my 45 turntable (I think left it in BK, need to ask the wifey). I have everything for my other 3 turntables.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 11/21/17 10:17pm Uncle Michael:

come back and get 'em some other day...
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 11/21/17 10:18pm Little Danny:

@UM: Technics 1200s should be able to withstand the knocks of club DJing. Wait, is that what you're using, Kris?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 11/21/17 10:18pm JtotheK:

Kris did you get your bid in for the Frank Wilson acetate?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 11/21/17 10:18pm Little Danny:

Also that Joe-L was fantastic
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 11/21/17 10:19pm JtotheK:

@Little Danny - agreed, enjoyed the Joe-L.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 11/21/17 10:21pm Uncle Michael:

I like the Audio Technica knockoffs of the 1200s because I can afford 'em? Mine don't earn me any money...and the ATs play 78s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 11/21/17 10:21pm Little Danny:

Aye, yeah, that 78 speed is sooooo sweet
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 11/21/17 10:24pm Little Danny:

@J2tK: of course you do. You're a man of wealth and taste
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 11/21/17 10:25pm coelacanth∅:

greetings Kris; homies
Avatar Tue. 11/21/17 10:26pm Kris Holmes:

UM, LD, yeah it is rough, they go in road cases but they still get bumped & every bump affects the tonearm bearings eventually so they get worn spots where the movement occasionally sticks. 3 were already a bit worn when I bought them when I arrived in California but they got me through for a while & were cheap. Two came in the container of stuff from NZ & that has definitely affected them. So yeah, all my 1200s are struggling right now. I can fix them all but it involves replacing the tonearms on them all. Which at $130 a pop isn't in my budget right now, so y'all are gonna have to excuse some skips LOL
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 11/21/17 10:29pm Little Danny:

@Kris: damn, mate, that is some heavy 1200 use!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 11/21/17 10:30pm JtotheK:

@danny - that's debatable ... b/w and now i'm going to have station manager ken's "sympathy for the devil" show from a few weeks back in my head...ha ha.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 11/21/17 10:34pm doctorjazz:

Hey all! I think the Technics tables were not that hot for a while, have read more about them recently, being discovered by audiophiles, which is generally a bad thing for prices.
Avatar Tue. 11/21/17 10:36pm still b/p:

Late ahhhhhhrival....and immmmediate mmmmms.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 11/21/17 10:37pm Uncle Michael:

I can't comprehend audiophiles desiring those road warriors. There are much better suited decks for living room listening, that are designed for a stationary existence.
Avatar Tue. 11/21/17 10:38pm Kris Holmes:

who knows, i'm just glad I have a stockpile & the soldering skills to repair them as needed :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 11/21/17 10:39pm Little Danny:

"Not on the Outside"! Yes!
Avatar Tue. 11/21/17 10:40pm Kris Holmes:

drums sond amazing on this
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 11/21/17 10:41pm Little Danny:

Sylvia "Pillow Talk" Robinson did a wild version of this
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 11/21/17 10:41pm Little Danny:

Agreed!
Avatar Tue. 11/21/17 10:41pm Kris Holmes:

now that i need to hear
Avatar Tue. 11/21/17 10:42pm still b/p:

If we have to make hard decisions about who gets in the bunker/shelter...you know, "after"....we want the dude with soldering skills. For music and other sundry necessities and amenities.
Avatar Tue. 11/21/17 10:44pm Kris Holmes:

ha, Yes!!!
Avatar Tue. 11/21/17 10:46pm Kris Holmes:

trying to convince Otis that he wants to lie in the lid of the 45 box more than jump on the turntables, so far so good......
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 11/21/17 10:47pm doctorjazz:

UM, that was the take on these in the audiophile world for the longest time. Seems some now think the direct drive makes for good solid speed solidity (and better sound, natch). Fussy belt drive tables were home gear for the longest time, but the Technics have gotten noticed.

As for getting taken for the bunker, afraid I'll be the last, won't be too much help with those kind of skills. Oh well...
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 11/21/17 10:47pm Little Danny:

Over here we're all in favor of Otis getting directly involved with the turntables
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 11/21/17 10:48pm coelacanth∅:

i'm happy with my techniques. don't know when it was made (sometime between the mid-70s and early 90s) and don't know (or care) what model it is.
i used to like the belt-driven semi-auto (lifts but doesn't return) duals. strictly for home use; but maybe not designed for as much use as i gave them.
then one needed a tone arm and the other a spindle, and though they looked and acted about the same the parts were not interchangeable; and by then dual had made repair parts unavailable. (& 'twas pre-internet, at least for me) so i chucked 'em.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 11/21/17 10:50pm Little Danny:

I actually think I remember seeing that Eddie and Ernie, just 'cause it was weird to see E&E on Checker
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 11/21/17 10:50pm Little Danny:

Go Otis go!
Avatar Tue. 11/21/17 10:54pm Kris Holmes:

Good thing with Technics 1200s is basically the whole thing is readily available for replacement parts & upgrade modifications. So as a base deck for whatever they are actually pretty versatile.
Avatar Tue. 11/21/17 10:56pm Kris Holmes:

Dan, I had breakfast with David Hollander this morning!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 11/21/17 10:57pm Little Danny:

How was his manicness level on a scale of 1 to 10?
Avatar Tue. 11/21/17 10:58pm Kris Holmes:

he was pretty excited, but it was great fun.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 11/21/17 10:59pm Little Danny:

Glad to hear!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 11/21/17 11:00pm Little Danny:

p.s. Check your text messages! Just sent ya a question
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 11/21/17 11:02pm northguineahills:

Man, Kris, that almost is verbatim of what survived my move. I'm obviously not an "audiiophile", as I haven't hooked up my 'audiophile speakers', and I've been here for three months, (Still putting together broken cd towers and LP shelves.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 11/21/17 11:07pm Little Danny:

You're the best, Kris
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 11/21/17 11:09pm JtotheK:

@danny - do you have the Nat Kendrick 'Mashed Potatoes' 45, Dee Dee Sharp 'Gravy' 45 and Freddie & Henchi 'Biscuits and Buttermilk' 45 ready to go for Thursday?
  Tue. 11/21/17 11:09pm Lore:

Here I am looking at a map of the McComb area & then you drop the Bo right on time. Thanks Kris.
Avatar Tue. 11/21/17 11:10pm Kris Holmes:

Jason, to answer you earlier which got lost in the shuffle, i will not be bidding but I will be watching the british get their bloomers in a twist over it (which has already begun, to my great amusement)
Avatar Tue. 11/21/17 11:11pm Kris Holmes:

Right on Adam!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 11/21/17 11:12pm Little Danny:

Oh shit, thanks for the suggestions Jason. I have exactly none of those. But I think I can find some other on-theme sides outta my 45 boxes
Avatar Tue. 11/21/17 11:13pm Kris Holmes:

Also "The Turkey Trot"
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 11/21/17 11:14pm northguineahills:

As mentioned before, my domicile is 8 blocks away from Bo Diddley Plaza.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 11/21/17 11:16pm JtotheK:

and Funky16Corners has done some 'food themed' shows in the past, his blog I'm sure has the tracklist(s). i could stand to re-read as a refresher.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 11/21/17 11:17pm Little Danny:

@NGH: That's so cool! Bo Diddley a hero of mine, too
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 11/21/17 11:18pm JtotheK:

@Kris - i saw a few threads about "provenance" and have found the story entertaining. curious what it well end up going for. i thought i read some comments assuming 25K at least.
Avatar Tue. 11/21/17 11:18pm Kris Holmes:

I told you about the time I met him vs the time my musical mentor meeting him right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 11/21/17 11:18pm doctorjazz:

Nice version of Trick Bag.
  Tue. 11/21/17 11:18pm Lore:

Around 12 or so years ago, I dropped by Mid-Town Records & Tapes in McComb. They didn't have any records or tapes. https://goo.gl/maps/sWXXKeqj1wk
Avatar Tue. 11/21/17 11:19pm Kris Holmes:

like so many southern "record" stores these days :(
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 11/21/17 11:20pm doctorjazz:

Thanks for the fine music, gotta get my beauty rest.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 11/21/17 11:22pm Little Danny:

@Adam: amazing, and a liquor store within easy stumbling distance, too
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 11/21/17 11:26pm Little Danny:

Oh man, we LOVE tearing old things down. So much history has been lost in the last century alone. Damn shame

Oh yeah, 'Merica!

Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 11/21/17 11:33pm Sean B.:

Hey man you're more than welcome!, first time listening!. I always found My Love by Jessie Hill so moving. If analyzing it closely you will find his vocal track out of tune and such but that is what makes it for me...that human quality.
Avatar Tue. 11/21/17 11:34pm Kris Holmes:

Yeah it's a raw one
Avatar Swag For Life Member Tue. 11/21/17 11:36pm Sean B.:

I Love it,what's not to love about Jessie Hill...really.

Love the Hammond on this!
  Tue. 11/21/17 11:40pm Dean:

David Cassidy took the long way home. Any chance we'll hear a tribute?
Avatar Tue. 11/21/17 11:42pm Kris Holmes:

Sorry Dean, not really prepared for that tonight.
Avatar Tue. 11/21/17 11:45pm Kris Holmes:

@Jason: they will need to clear the provenance up before I'd bid 25k, but we all know there are some fools out there
Avatar Tue. 11/21/17 11:46pm Kris Holmes:

I think if it all gets straightened out it could go higher than 25k though
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 11/21/17 11:47pm JtotheK:

Fantastic Johnny C, great tune.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 11/21/17 11:50pm Little Danny:
