Hi Larry AND ALL!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/13/17 12:07pm northguineahills:

Crap, I need to get ready for bed, and it's not Friday like I thought earlier this morning. So confused!
Avatar Fri. 10/13/17 12:07pm Jeff Ash:

I'm transcribing an interview. I have that turned up to hear what's said. When I jump over to the show, IT"S LOUD! Work problems. I will persevere.

Hey guys! Yeah, everyone can stay up until 3PM!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/13/17 12:08pm Jeff Golick:

The title of this Sir Douglas tune has always confused me.

hi F16C, hi everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 10/13/17 12:11pm Funky16Corners:

Hi J!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/13/17 12:11pm Jeff Golick:

Well, I'm overly literal, and "she's about a mover" doesn't really scan, in any traditional way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 10/13/17 12:12pm Funky16Corners:

I always wondered if it was a Texas-ism or just a weird turn of phrase to fit the music
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 10/13/17 12:13pm Brian in UK:

Hello Larry.

Jeff, it's been like that for over half a century. Time to let it go. I mean Sir Douglas, that's bonkers enough.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 10/13/17 12:13pm Funky16Corners:

Hi Brian!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 10/13/17 12:13pm doctorjazz:

Never did get that title either, @JeffG, but I wouldn't argue with royalty, as BiUK points out...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/13/17 12:14pm Jeff Golick:

I found this in a youtube comment: "She's About a Mover" = "she's a body mover," elided for the audience's delicate sensibilities in 1965.

@Brian: were it only possible to "let it go," life would be so easy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 10/13/17 12:15pm Funky16Corners:

In retrospect, while I'm playing this I ought to be sipping a Lone Star

Instead of a Diet Pepsi
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 10/13/17 12:16pm Brian in UK:

Jeff we are in the middle of selling/buying a house. The estate agents (realtors?) seem to have misplaced the deeds. Count to ten and open a beer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 10/13/17 12:16pm Brian in UK:

Mendocino was one of those mythical albums over here in the late Sixties.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/13/17 12:17pm Jeff Golick:

I applaud -- and envy -- your equanimity, @Brian. I hope the deeds eventually reveal themselves.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 10/13/17 12:17pm Funky16Corners:

One of the best ever.
Avatar Fri. 10/13/17 12:18pm Dominick:

What a treat! Weekend has begun early for me with this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 10/13/17 12:18pm Funky16Corners:

Even when they got hippie, the SDQ still kept the R&B flowing
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/13/17 12:18pm annie:

listening through tunein... silly popup has a mind of its own.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 10/13/17 12:19pm Brian in UK:

It's Friday, Monday is the time to chase stuff.

Larry, love the Texas Tornados.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 10/13/17 12:19pm Funky16Corners:

Me too. Nice that those guys got back into the spotlight late in the game
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 10/13/17 12:21pm Brian in UK:

This Stream is going to be cookin' come Singles week. Oh man.

The Tornados do have a patina of age about them.

Avatar Fri. 10/13/17 12:23pm glenn:

i'm with jeff. I'm pedantic to a fault, and getting worse.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/13/17 12:23pm Mike Sin:

Larry - nice to hear ya on the stream during "business hours." "At the Crossroads" -- may fave track from that LP.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 10/13/17 12:23pm Funky16Corners:

Hey Mike!
Avatar Fri. 10/13/17 12:24pm glenn:

What a GREAT version of "Needles and Pins"! May supplant the Ramones as my fave...
Avatar Fri. 10/13/17 12:31pm glenn:

but then, my pedantry kicks in, and i ask - does texas get many tornadoes? shouldn't they be the texas hurricanes?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 10/13/17 12:32pm Funky16Corners:

Brushfires?
Avatar Fri. 10/13/17 12:33pm glenn:

or the texas tropical storms?

The Texas Being Hassled By the Fuzz So We Moved To California
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 10/13/17 12:33pm Uncle Michael:

My SDQ experience was suitably weird. I saw them in around '83. What transpired can only be made sense of if there was miscommunication with the promoter with regard to two sets vs. early and late shows. They played for an hour and a half, took a break, came back and played the same set a second time for the same audience. A lot of people didn't stay into the wee hours to hear the same show twice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 10/13/17 12:34pm Brian in UK:

The Searchers certainly did credit to this song as well as giving the Byrds a sound to copy. And I love the Byrds.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 10/13/17 12:34pm Funky16Corners:

@UncleMichael - I'd-a stayed
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 10/13/17 12:34pm Funky16Corners:

@Brian - The Searchers certainly liked Jackie
Avatar Fri. 10/13/17 12:36pm glenn:

i like sally timms' version of this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 10/13/17 12:36pm Uncle Michael:

I hung in there for most of round two.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 10/13/17 12:37pm Funky16Corners:

That was right around the time they played on Fridays
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 10/13/17 12:41pm Uncle Michael:

Mark Eric is so boss.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 10/13/17 12:42pm Funky16Corners:

Indeed. I was lucky to score a copy of this album o the cheap years ago.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 10/13/17 12:42pm Funky16Corners:

It's so weird that this track is on a biker movie soundtrack
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 10/13/17 12:44pm Uncle Michael:

I just have the CD Steve Stanley put out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 10/13/17 12:45pm Funky16Corners:

I heard the Jaynetts record of this song in a Michael's craft store once. That was weird.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 10/13/17 12:48pm Funky16Corners:

That is weird

re: Richard Farina
I was completely captivated by the style and "rhythm" of "I've Been Down So Long It Looks Up to Me" when I read it during my college days... I should re-read as a middle-aged bum and see how it hits me!
Avatar Fri. 10/13/17 1:09pm ndbob:

@Mike tried doing that recently - didn't hold up for me
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 10/13/17 1:10pm doctorjazz:

I guess this is the follow up record to "She's A Mover"
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 10/13/17 1:10pm Funky16Corners:

Dick Hyman, the jazz pianist? Stride and all that historical stuff? Didn't realize he had done this kind of stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 10/13/17 1:57pm Funky16Corners:

Yes. He was a major, early proponent of the Moog synthesizer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 10/13/17 1:57pm Funky16Corners:

He was good at it too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 10/13/17 1:59pm Funky16Corners:

I actually got to see him play straight jazz stuff when I was in high school in the 70s
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 10/13/17 2:02pm Guido from Cologne:

"Give It Up Or Turnit A Loose" was crazy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 10/13/17 2:03pm Funky16Corners:

Yeah, I've actually spun that during funk sets. I love it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 10/13/17 2:03pm Guido from Cologne:

inspiration for "Lucky man" Moog solo, right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 10/13/17 2:03pm Funky16Corners:

It certainly sounds like it, doesn't it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/13/17 2:04pm listener james from westwood:

Would be surprised to learn it played no role!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 10/13/17 2:05pm Funky16Corners:

Me too. This album was fairly popular at the time and considering how few artists were doing anything really constructive/artistic with the Moog, I wouldn't be surprised to find a copy in Keith Emerson's collection
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 10/13/17 2:05pm Funky16Corners:

There's actually a 45 edit of the Minotaur
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 10/13/17 2:07pm JtotheK:

And by "edit" you mean it's only 7 minutes 30 seconds -- on one side of the 45!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 10/13/17 2:08pm Funky16Corners:

Oh crap, you're right!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 10/13/17 2:11pm Funky16Corners:

I'm going to have to dig out the 45 and see how it differs from the LP
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 10/13/17 2:13pm JtotheK:

I was thinking the same thing ... haven't listened to both side by side to compare!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 10/13/17 2:14pm Funky16Corners:

I wonder how careful and edit it is, or did some hack take out a hatchet and lop off the end?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/13/17 2:17pm Jeff Golick:

There appears to have been a radio edit, too, at 3:15 -- www.45cat.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 10/13/17 2:18pm Funky16Corners:

Well, I'm going to need that too, won't I?

never would have expected this to be that good
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/13/17 2:20pm Mike Sin:

"Electric Tommy" actually benefits from the drums not being electric! Roger Linn (of LinnDrum) sez: "Boys, just hold out few more years -- I'm almost there with this cool gizmo!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 10/13/17 2:20pm Funky16Corners:

Yeah, I'm not a fan of shitty Moog cash-ins. I love this one. Joe Renzetti, the Philly producer/arranger is behind it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 10/13/17 2:20pm Funky16Corners:

It has a nice musicality that fits the source material
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 10/13/17 2:30pm Uncle Michael:

Avatar Fri. 10/13/17 2:36pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Thanks for playing the German-language version of this song, Larry. It's nice to hear the entire 17 or so minutes on the radio. 22 minutes? I lost track...
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 10/13/17 2:36pm Funky16Corners:

You're welcome Wendy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 10/13/17 2:37pm Funky16Corners:

Who am I to edit Ralf an Florian?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 10/13/17 2:39pm Guido from Cologne:

But the intro with tzhe starting car was missing.
Missing on your CD?
Avatar Fri. 10/13/17 2:42pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Nobody should edit Ralf und Florian. Or Hans and Franz!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 10/13/17 2:42pm Funky16Corners:

I have this as a download. It clocks in at 21:53 and the album is 22:30

Wait, there's an English version? The LP I got at a thrift store (20 years ago), the whole album is in German.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 10/13/17 2:43pm Guido from Cologne:

That would fit the missing intro
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 10/13/17 2:44pm Funky16Corners:

According to Discogs there are a SHITLOAD of versions! www.discogs.com...
Avatar Fri. 10/13/17 2:44pm Wendy del Formaggio:

I think my CD at home has them singing this in English, but sometimes I make shit up, so take that under advisement.

Mine's Boston College; haven't been there in bloody ages. Now's the time at the height of fall. May do so in 2019 when I have a conference in Providence; many of my fellow editors live in Boston, so there's an excuse to extend the trip temporally and spatially.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 10/13/17 3:02pm Jeff Golick:

Thanks, @Larry!

Happy college-ing, @Doug!

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 10/13/17 3:11pm Uncle Michael:

Stuntman is a great movie.
Fri. 10/13/17 3:12pm Alex in Illinois:

Walter cha... what Uncle Michael said.
Avatar Fri. 10/13/17 3:12pm Wendy del Formaggio:

The artist is Wendy Carlos, and according to etiquette, even when her name was Walter, it's correct to use "she/her" pronouns to refer to her throughout their life unless you are requested to do otherwise.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 10/13/17 3:13pm Funky16Corners:

I could not remember the sequence, and oddly the album is credited to Walter in 1973/74
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 10/13/17 3:18pm Funky16Corners:

And thank you Wendy for the clarification. I should have checked that out ahead of time.
