Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 4/7/17 1:45pm Uncle Michael:

Avatar Fri. 4/7/17 1:46pm Lane Gray:

Also in "Rolaids, Doan's Pills, and Preparation H" by either Dudley or Simpson (Red, not Homer)
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 4/7/17 1:46pm Uncle Michael:

Hate to say it Doc...it's going to take a turn.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 4/7/17 1:47pm doctorjazz:

Puttin on my seat belt.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 4/7/17 1:47pm Mark the Sardine:

Indeed, I swam over to catch the show today. Great set!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 4/7/17 1:48pm coelacanth∅:

ndbob they must've both recorded it in '66, but Del's was released first. images.45cat.com...
...i guess that's how things went then. composers sold their songs to multiple people at once, if they could.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 4/7/17 1:48pm Uncle Michael:

It's a pretty relaxed turn.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 4/7/17 1:48pm Uncle Michael:

Thanks, Mark.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 4/7/17 1:51pm doctorjazz:

I'm still braced for the turn...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 4/7/17 1:52pm coelacanth∅:

cool, glenn. -i actually can't narrow it down without great apprehension! ...but when i was little it was the beatles; then when i started finding my own way musically, i had my list of favorites, which was separate from the beatles - who were in a league of their own to me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 4/7/17 1:52pm David D:

Hey Doctorjazz, I think the Tillerman is turning us right now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 4/7/17 1:52pm doctorjazz:

OK Cat Steven, that's a pretty sharp (if soft) turn.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 4/7/17 1:54pm doctorjazz:

Cat Stevens seems to be making a (FMU) comeback, hearing a good amount of him these days.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 4/7/17 1:55pm Uncle Michael:

Really? I mist delve.

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 4/7/17 2:12pm Uncle Michael:

uh huh
Avatar Fri. 4/7/17 2:15pm glenn:

although in 1968, i suppose a song like silver birch would do more business than a song like runaway, if one wanted to look at things from a cynical point of view.
Avatar Fri. 4/7/17 2:15pm Lane Gray:

Although cultural appropriation is almost essential. You wouldn't have white rock and roll without Chuck Berry; you wouldn't have Chuck Berry's double-stops without Bill Monroe's mando chops, and you wouldn't have had Bill Monroe without a healthy dose of rural black Kentucky.
So I was joking.
Avatar Fri. 4/7/17 2:15pm Jeff Golick:

Sexercise, eh? How's that one?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 4/7/17 2:16pm Uncle Michael:

Research and report back, Jeff. It's a dirty job...
Avatar Fri. 4/7/17 2:17pm Jeff Golick:

Love this Scientists. I think they re-recorded it a few times.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 4/7/17 2:21pm coelacanth∅:

Avatar Fri. 4/7/17 2:29pm glenn:

i know, i'll use the google machine.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 4/7/17 2:30pm northguineahills:

I'm curious about the unknown artist from the bed music....
Avatar Fri. 4/7/17 2:31pm Lane Gray:

I shall miss my current band. The vagaries of modern commercial radio just blew up my band. The drummer lost his program director/deejay job, and is pulling the plug on the band. One last gig tomorrow night.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 4/7/17 2:31pm Uncle Michael:

me too
Avatar Fri. 4/7/17 2:32pm Lane Gray:

Del is/was pretty cool
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 4/7/17 2:33pm northguineahills:

If I remember my teenaged musicology, NOFX went from metal, to punk, to poppy-punk.

Not my cup of Darjeeling, but hey!
Avatar Fri. 4/7/17 2:33pm glenn:

For the uninitiated, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes consist of Lagwagon frontman Joey Cape on the guitar, Chris Shiflett (Foo Fighters) on the other guitar, Lagwagon drummer and Fat Wreck utility superhero Dave Raun on the skins, and are rounded out by Fat Wreck-head-honcho/NOFX main-dude Fat Mike, and incomparable crooner Spike Slawson.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 4/7/17 2:34pm northguineahills:

Schiidt, Lane. Buena suerte!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 4/7/17 2:36pm Sue P.:

@coelacanth∅ - if that is how i am remembered, i am most flattered and humbled. thx!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 4/7/17 2:36pm Uncle Michael:

That sucks, Lane. Time for a new band.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 4/7/17 2:38pm JP from KC:

I play drums... but I don't have my own set anymore.
Avatar Fri. 4/7/17 2:39pm βrian:

A drummer sans portfolio?
Avatar Fri. 4/7/17 2:40pm Lane Gray:

Given that I only have one weekend off from the truck a month, I'm thinking of just letting everyone know there's a decent steel player available the second Saturday, and just sit in with people. Get a band when I get a new job. And I have an interview this evening.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 4/7/17 2:41pm Uncle Michael:

Good luck with the interview!
  Fri. 4/7/17 2:42pm davefromtoronto:

what is this - a freak-out?!?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 4/7/17 2:44pm northguineahills:

Kill that interview, Lane!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 4/7/17 2:44pm Uncle Michael:

DAVE!
  Fri. 4/7/17 2:45pm davefromtoronto:

what's up Uncle M - diggin the show!
  Fri. 4/7/17 2:50pm V Priceless:

Cool show, Unc! Thanx!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 4/7/17 2:50pm JP from KC:

Unfortunately, yes, Brian. People in neighboring apartments generally do not appreciate a drummer in their midst. Plus, while chicks dig a guy who plays an instrument, the enthusiasm tends to fade when they're forced to live with, and maneuver around said instrument during cohabitation.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 4/7/17 2:51pm Uncle Michael:

Thanks Uncle M Excellent program!

Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 4/7/17 2:52pm David D:

Thanks for the fine time, Uncle Michael!

Have a good weekend, everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 4/7/17 2:53pm coelacanth∅:

(hmm -just recommended this song, Neil Young's version, to Little Danny last night.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 4/7/17 2:54pm doctorjazz:

Good Luck Lane!
Great show UM, thanks
@Coel, UM has found all the versions, and played them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 4/7/17 2:54pm Uncle Michael:

I got a million of 'em, Coel.

Thanks David!
Avatar Fri. 4/7/17 2:55pm Lane Gray:

JP,, what about the better electronic kits? I played an open show that had a set that sounded positively real, with the exception of being able to sit next to them and still hear my amp.
Avatar Fri. 4/7/17 2:55pm glenn:

i'll bet that's george barnes on guitar.
  Fri. 4/7/17 2:56pm ronzoni:

thanks for a great hour, mike!
Avatar Fri. 4/7/17 2:56pm glenn:

on red light, that is.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 4/7/17 2:56pm JP from KC:

I used to be vehemently opposed to electronic kits, Lane, but I've been reconsidering my stance, as of late. Problem is, to get one of the better kits costs a pretty penny.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 4/7/17 2:56pm Uncle Michael:

Thanks for hangin', everyone.

See you all next ime.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 4/7/17 2:57pm JP from KC:

Thanks for the great show, UM! We need to get together soon!
Avatar Fri. 4/7/17 2:57pm Lane Gray:

Although they take up the same living room real estate.
BTW, I am in awe of drummers' ability to keep so many independent rhythms going with different parts of the body.
Avatar Fri. 4/7/17 2:58pm burke:

Albatross already??
Avatar Fri. 4/7/17 2:59pm listener james from westwood:

a thousand thanks, UM!
Avatar Fri. 4/7/17 2:59pm Lane Gray:

Yeah. A good kit costs as much as a good pedal steel. Maybe even more, and to replace my guitar with new would run between 5 and 6 grand.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 4/7/17 2:59pm Mark the Sardine:

Ahh show is done already? Great show today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 4/7/17 2:59pm JP from KC:

How I learned is a bit of an interesting story, Lane. I'll have to tell you sometime.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 4/7/17 3:01pm Uncle Michael:

Thanks folks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 4/7/17 3:01pm northguineahills:

Danke, UM!
