Hi Marie! Thanks for coming!

@Uncle Michael
You are wrong about New Orleans. Take it from the husband of a daughter of a mother from New Or-le-ans.
It is absolutely pronounced with four syllables. Unless one pronounces if N'awlins. There is a class distinction here. Upper-four syllables; lower-2 syllables.

Avatar Fri. 2/3/17 11:16am Lane Gray:

Brian, one could say it's reverberation from WWI anyway. The allies really screwed the pooch when they redrew the map...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 2/3/17 11:16am Carmichael:

Don't think it was a screwup, Brian. The League of Nations was quite detailed in its desires. They landlocked Iraq intentionally. Al Stewart's song League of Notions, while whimsical, does have a good historical base to it.
Avatar Fri. 2/3/17 11:17am Doug Schulkind:

I emulate my dear mother-in-law. She was no high-class woman, but she pronounced New Orleans with four syllables. Just whatever you do, do not pronounce it New Orleens. It was only pronounced that way in song for the easy rhyming opportunities. No one in New Orleans pronounces it New Orleens.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 2/3/17 11:18am Lewis:

Yes, he will turn 101 this September, Jah willing.
Avatar    Fri. 2/3/17 11:26am Webhamster Henry:

And so is Biermann.
Avatar Fri. 2/3/17 11:26am Doug Schulkind:

Aha! Biermann I didn't know was still with us. Wonderful!
Fri. 2/3/17 11:27am goyim in the am:

The word "Neger" wasn't offensive when this was recorded -- that is very much no longer the case. This is a fascinating song. Hi folks! (Ah, we just heard the nasty n-word in the mouth of the bad guy -- there is no longer any difference.)
Fri. 2/3/17 11:28am goyim in the am:

Biermann is still around and still performing.
Avatar Fri. 2/3/17 11:29am Doug Schulkind:

I see that Biermann was born in '36. I thought he was much older. Good day, goyim in the am!
Fri. 2/3/17 11:30am goyim in the am:

TSS hell YES.
Avatar Fri. 2/3/17 11:31am ken krimstein:

Ahh...shades of Weimar.

Bummer. It's me, though!

Comedian Harmonists always welcome, and their experience always, and now urgently, instructive.
Fri. 2/3/17 11:38am goyim in the am:

Doug, your German pronunciation is extremely good. Hut ab!
Avatar    Fri. 2/3/17 11:41am listener james from westwood:

w00t! Doug crushing it in class!
Fri. 2/3/17 11:42am goyim in the am:

Faking it based on Yiddish pronunciation will generally impress someone whose German is Viennese, like me.

Doug. Got to walk the dawg, great education.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 2/3/17 11:43am Parq:

Yvonne Fair -- what a lovely name. I just looked her up and see that she died at 51. Man, that's harsh.
Avatar Fri. 2/3/17 11:44am Doug Schulkind:

Goodbye Brian and dog. Hello, Parq!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 2/3/17 11:46am Carmichael:

@goyim, I have the iPhone app and cannot.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 2/3/17 11:48am Parq:

Apparently, her death was shrouded in mystery. Mostly, it is reported as "unknown causes". A somewhat creepy thing; if you Google search Yvonne Fair cause of death", one of the searches it auto-suggests is "What types of drugs did James Brown use?" Yeesh.
Fri. 2/3/17 11:48am goyim in the am:

Thanks, Carmichael. I figured my posting style is idiosyncratic enough that folks can tell I'm for real.
  Fri. 2/3/17 11:49am Marie:

Loving this tune and that lovely geetar.
  Fri. 2/3/17 11:51am Marie:

Hi Listener James, what's the weather like in la la land?
Avatar Fri. 2/3/17 11:51am Doug Schulkind:

He's in Westwood, New Jersey!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 2/3/17 11:52am Parq:

How disappointing. I thought maybe James was gearing up for the 'Thon with a well-deserved vacation.
