Love the photo of DNA. I had a gig to drive them around when they were playing in toronto. The No New York compilation came out maybe a year later. So lovely. Thank you.

Of all the records I sold 30 years or so ago, Mars' is among those I most regret. Still have No New York, but shoulda kept the Mars thing. EP, maybe?

The DNA photo depicts Tim Wright, doesn't it? Or is it Crutchfield?

It bothers me I can't figure out where that pic is taken. There looks to be a bridge in the background, and the geometry of the street intersection is unique in running a few blocks up to a bridge. Hmmmm.

Definitely looks like a bridge ... not sure where it is, either

Oooh, nice, Erella -- what's your best guess?
Avatar Wed. 12/7/16 7:23pm Erella:

Around this time, Arto was living on the west side, NYC and Tim had a flat on St Marks Place with Ikue. There is only one flat iron building in all of canada and two in NYC. I will look.

Back in the mid to late '70s, John Lurie was chatting with my future wife at a party. "Hey Jessie," he said, "I'm thinking of starting a band. Should I call it the Eels or the Lounge Lizards." Her reply? "Definitely the Eels."

ah, this is great. i listed to Bad Moon Rising just the other day, which was my entry into Sonic Youth. it still sounded good to these ears.
Avatar Wed. 12/7/16 8:20pm hyde:

dang, i loved this blood ulmer too. you're playing my early 80's soundtrack from nyc. play some stuff from kraut from astoria and you'll hit the trifecta at belmont.
Avatar Wed. 12/7/16 8:23pm Gary:

Aw, man -- how have I never heard of Kraut before?
Avatar Wed. 12/7/16 8:28pm hyde:

Kraut opened for the Clash in '81 at the Bonds International Casino in Times Sq! I never saw them tho.

Avatar Wed. 12/7/16 8:33pm Gary:

Thanks, Hyde!
Avatar Wed. 12/7/16 8:35pm Gary:

Got it, Hyde -- which track do you recommend we hear?
Avatar Wed. 12/7/16 8:48pm hyde:

toldja via email. it's kind of a rocker, if that helps you fit it in somewhere. it's mostly what you'd expect from sort of britpunk inspired early ny rock. the record has a synth-y number or two, but other'n that it doesn't have great range ;)
Avatar Wed. 12/7/16 8:49pm Gary:

Awrighty, just queuing it up now
Avatar Wed. 12/7/16 8:49pm Doug Schulkind:

My wife Jessie's previous boyfriend performed with Glenn Branca in his Symphony for 100 Guitars. Again, me = cool.
Avatar Wed. 12/7/16 8:50pm Doug Schulkind:

It's like you're playing my autobiography, Gary.
Avatar Wed. 12/7/16 8:51pm Gary:

Avatar Wed. 12/7/16 8:56pm hyde:

@glenn that's amazing
Avatar Wed. 12/7/16 8:57pm Gary:

It was true devotion, too -- I bought the first one right when it came out and actually got my grandmother into the second one, which if I remember correctly, might have been a bit more orchestral
Avatar Wed. 12/7/16 8:58pm northguineahills:

Two of friends played in one of Branca's 100 guitar orchestras as well, although this was in the 2000s...
Avatar Wed. 12/7/16 8:59pm Gary:

Everyone has a cooler backstory than me
  Wed. 12/7/16 9:01pm Dean:

When did having a grandmother who liked Klaatu suddenly become not cool?
  Wed. 12/7/16 9:02pm Dean:

'course my grandmother would always demand that I "put on more of that fuckin' Iggy Pop" when she would visit.
Avatar Wed. 12/7/16 9:06pm melinda:

Anybody have experience fixing poorly flushing toilets? I thought I had finally cleared a clog after much plunging and success with the dish soap/buckets of hot water trick, but now it won't flush the normal way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 12/7/16 9:30pm coelacanth:

a bit. what do you mean the normal way.

-i cant use both hands to type right now-
Avatar Wed. 12/7/16 9:31pm Gary:

  Wed. 12/7/16 9:31pm Dean:

Re: toilets, some. How is the flushing not "normal"?
  Wed. 12/7/16 9:31pm Dean:

Toilets are trending!
Avatar Wed. 12/7/16 9:31pm melinda:

normal way=depressing the flush handle.
  Wed. 12/7/16 9:32pm Dean:

So you depress the handle and ... nothing?
  Wed. 12/7/16 9:32pm Dean:

Is the handle affixed to the arm that pulls the chain that lifts the seal thingum?
  Wed. 12/7/16 9:33pm Dean:

Sometimes the handle (outside the tank) loses traction with the arm (inside the tank).
Avatar Wed. 12/7/16 9:33pm melinda:

I guess it's a partial flush, bowl fills but won't clear.
  Wed. 12/7/16 9:34pm Dean:

That's residual clog. See Gary @9:31. Try snake or more plunging...
Avatar Wed. 12/7/16 9:34pm Gary:

Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 12/7/16 9:35pm coelacanth:

yeh, snake.
  Wed. 12/7/16 9:35pm Dean:

I find that a superdupersuction plunger works. All plastic, you position it, turn handle to lock, churn like crazy, and voila! No more clog.
Avatar Wed. 12/7/16 9:36pm melinda:

I ran a snake pretty far but wasn't able to rotate it. Guess I'll try again. My arms are tired.

The youtube videos all make it seem so easy...not so!
  Wed. 12/7/16 9:39pm Dean:

A good hardware store? Yes. But I'd ask for a "bellows" plunger, or take picture of one to which I linked.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 12/7/16 9:39pm coelacanth:
