The Don Redman on the stream right now is a good match for the old-timey cartoon.
Avatar Fri. 5/6/16 8:56am Doug Schulkind:

Some of the music that accompanied those old cartoons was Don Redmanesque. Good morning, Listener James from Westwood!

long ago, a premium for an upstate radio station was a cd named "Mbuki Mvuki", which puportedly translated to "take all your clothes off and dance"... it was one of those global compilation things.. all joy and dance music. i still have it, too..

Mbuki Mvuki was an African music compilation produced by the label Original Music. A great one!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 5/6/16 10:01am Webhamster Henry:

I think Tony Coulter (more likely Rob W.) once did a show playing some of the original songs imitated by David Byrne for Talking Heads tunes.

Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 5/6/16 10:15am Jeff Golick:

Was just listening to another Texier album from around the same time! His next, it seems: www.discogs.com... Very hard to classify this stuff. So why bother?
Avatar Fri. 5/6/16 10:18am Doug Schulkind:

Classify is a dirty word, Jeff Golick.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 5/6/16 10:19am listener james from westwood:

Lovely lovely Roach/White Singers track, this!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 5/6/16 10:22am Jeff Golick:

Who's the horn here?
Avatar Fri. 5/6/16 10:22am Doug Schulkind:

@Listener James
I am rather proud of myself for not just playing "Where You There When They Rolled Away the Stone," from this LP, like I always do. Billy Harper's tenor sax on this track could cut steel.
Avatar Fri. 5/6/16 10:23am Doug Schulkind:

See above comment, Jeff Golick.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 5/6/16 10:24am Jeff Golick:

"Trying to make the lesser-known lesser lesser-known." I am now embroidering this on a pillowcase.
Avatar Fri. 5/6/16 10:48am Doug Schulkind:

Now "Sigmund Freud" is trending on Twitter. Either he just died, or San Francisco is naming a street car after him.
Avatar Fri. 5/6/16 10:50am Doug Schulkind:

Any thoughts as to what "Off the Bo" is a euphemism for?
Avatar Fri. 5/6/16 10:55am Doug Schulkind:

@Jeff Golick
Maybe buy a second pillow and embroider this:

"We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns – the ones we don't know we don't know."
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 5/6/16 10:56am Webhamster Henry:

  Fri. 5/6/16 11:06am Mr C:

Meant to ask: Who were the Night Blooming Jazz guys?
  Fri. 5/6/16 11:06am jessie:

wow that last set was taking me back to South Side Chicago circa 1970s; thank goodness we're in a new country now!
Avatar Fri. 5/6/16 11:08am Doug Schulkind:

@Mr C
Blue Mitchell, Willie Bobo, Joe Pass, Stix Hooper, etc.

@jessie
1970s South Side was a place you ran fast away from, my dear. But we can always visit aurally.

Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 5/6/16 11:26am Jeff Golick:
