i will play requests today, but i've got some things to get out of the way first.

Avatar Wed. 1/13/16 1:02pm listener james from westwood:

Therese did a great job at redoing her show midstream, as stunned as she understandably seemed by the news, esp. after she started the show w/ some birthday-celebratory Bowie tracks. "Change ... of plans," I recall her saying at the next available mic break.
Avatar Wed. 1/13/16 1:03pm glenn:

ziggy was always the perfect end of party album, way back when. rawkness, segueing into mellow balladry.
Avatar Wed. 1/13/16 1:05pm V Priceless:

I realize now that during the bridge of this tune he's having a conversation with God, and playing both roles: "You're a flash in the pan, I am the great I Am"....etc

Wow, this is great Bowie. What a treasure he left us.

Re Bowie and Philip Glass: Glass didn't "do 2 CDs of orchestrations" based on Low & Heroes -- he wrote 2 Symphonies, I believe with Bowie & Eno's input to some extent. They have been recorded more then once by different orchestras, so more than 2 cd's. Arkivmusic lists most, if not all of these. Re requests - If you have the recording, could you play Baal? Would love to hear, as well as more of the Glass symphonies. Thanks for this wonderful broadcast!

I made a mix tape back in '96 and put a version of "Space Oddity". Unbeknownst to me, while recording it, my turntable lost the left channel, and my cassette recorder recorded the result in mono. So, for years, I had no idea there was so much more going on the recording, until I listened to it carefully w/ both channels restored years later.
Avatar Wed. 1/13/16 2:33pm northguineahills:

Perfect Jess!
Avatar Wed. 1/13/16 2:34pm Doug Schulkind:

How many different languages has Space Oddity been performed in? I heard DB singing it in Italian last night. I played a Spanish comedy version (Hermanos Calatrava) a few weeks ago.

ann, fair point. i'm posting while jockeying. but the glass symphonies heavily use melodies from the albums. i think we said similar things there.

and yes, baal will happen.

I wish I could find Cassetteboy's cut up of Space Oddity but it's hopelessly obscured by being one of like 100 deceptively named tracks.

Thanks! Didn't mean to quibble, just help get the info out to those unfamiliar with these wonderful works. Hopefully Bowie's passing will spur more recordings of these, and perhaps new works? Looking forward to Baal. Hope you keep going past 3!

One significant drawback of the wfmu.org redesign is that it doesn't automatically show that a show is live on the stream. You have to click to see what's playing.
