Avatar Wed. 9/16/15 9:31am βrian:

Yo from the isthmus. Blue skies, wispy clouds overhead.

Jeffs!

Howdy Gary!

Yo, βrian!
Avatar Wed. 9/16/15 9:38am Gary:

Voice sounds like late (80s or 90s) Lata
Avatar Wed. 9/16/15 9:39am Jeff Golick:

We trust your judgment implicitly, Gary.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 9/16/15 9:40am coelacanth:

good morning Jeff and Jeff and others
Avatar Wed. 9/16/15 9:41am Jeff & Jeff:

Hi there, @coelacanth!
Avatar Wed. 9/16/15 9:45am Gary:

My judgment tends to be deeply impaired by lack of sleep, excess of stress, and general ignorance about most things happening on earth, in outer space and at the subatomic level. That said, I would be willing to wager U.S. $1.75 that that was, indeed Lata's voice, pulled from an 80s film soundtrack. (I can't think of any 90s films she sang on other than Khuda Gawah, altho I'm sure there must have been (many?) others)
Avatar Wed. 9/16/15 9:57am fred:

Good morning Jeffs and non-Jeffs
Avatar Wed. 9/16/15 10:01am Jeff & Jeff:

Greetings, @fred!
Avatar Wed. 9/16/15 10:05am listener james from westwood:

@Gary: I'm never gonna hold a lack of sleep against a person. I'll back that buck-seventy-five.
Avatar Wed. 9/16/15 10:05am Jeff & Jeff:

You don't hear much about the Cairo free jazz scene of the 1970s. Trying to correct that this morning.
Avatar Wed. 9/16/15 10:15am Gary:

So thrilled you're playing this, Jeffx2 -- I haven't heard of them before and they don't make an appearance in Thomas Burkhalter et al.'s The Arab Avant-Garde ... someone needs to write about 'em!
Avatar Wed. 9/16/15 10:27am listener james from westwood:

Can + proofreading = greater efficiency at catching errors. It's just science.
  Wed. 9/16/15 10:28am Jeff:

Then you'll want to work/listen tonight during Gary's shoe!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 9/16/15 10:35am coelacanth:

may be unavailable for comment later so,
Thank you Jeffs!
'till then people.
Avatar Wed. 9/16/15 10:37am Gary:

...tuned in & apprecifyin'...
Avatar Wed. 9/16/15 10:41am Gary:

I'm planning to play a super-long, non-Can Damo track as part of that mix
Avatar Wed. 9/16/15 10:53am Gary:

Finally watched two different Fela documentaries last month -- man, what an insane, incredible life the guy had
Avatar Wed. 9/16/15 10:57am Jeff & Jeff:

Agreed, Gary. Michael Veal's biography of Fela is essential reading too. Covers quite a bit that isn't in the docs.
Avatar Wed. 9/16/15 10:59am Gary:

I've read much (but not all) of the Carlos Moore book ... will have to keep an eye out for the Veal ... thanks for the tip!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 9/16/15 11:00am doctorjazz:

Hi all! This is pretty close to electric Miles.
Avatar Wed. 9/16/15 11:08am Jeff & Jeff:

Greets, @Rev Rabbit!
Avatar Wed. 9/16/15 11:20am Jeff & Jeff:

Hey doctorjazz! That track definitely brings the funk.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 9/16/15 11:21am Jesse K:

Dropping in for a sec to say hi! Listening in the background at work
Avatar Wed. 9/16/15 11:23am Jeff & Jeff:

Hey, Jesse! Thanks for saying hi! And listening!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 9/16/15 11:30am Carmichael:

Heya Jeff and drummers.
Avatar Wed. 9/16/15 11:32am listener james from westwood:

Where music and proofreading intersect: Just marked a deletion in proofs for the hyphen Jay Z no longer uses.
Avatar Wed. 9/16/15 11:35am Jeff & Jeff:

Hey there @Carmichael! Thanks for joining us.
Avatar Wed. 9/16/15 11:38am Jeff & Jeff:

@ljfw - intersections are good. What are you proofreading?
Avatar Wed. 9/16/15 11:53am Amanda:

I'm hearing a very intriguing side of D:O right now
Avatar Wed. 9/16/15 11:57am Jeff & Jeff:

Thanks gents!
Avatar Wed. 9/16/15 11:59am listener james from westwood:

@J&J: A marketing book, one focused on disruption. This was in the context of a service that turns text into short news videos about the topic in said text. (Jay Z being an example of someone with lots of B-roll to draw on.)

And on that note, many thanks for the mighty show! Have a great rest of your stay in NYC, Jeff J!
Avatar Wed. 9/16/15 12:10pm Jeff & Jeff:

Thanks, all!
Avatar Wed. 9/16/15 12:23pm duke:

I missed the end because of a meeting. Love the show. Keep on D:Oing it.
Avatar Wed. 9/16/15 12:30pm Gary:

Terrific show, guys!
