Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

No, it's 1974 on this Broadway....so $19.74 at TKTS

Careful, those stairs are wet.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/28/15 12:11pm Parq:

I saw the revival a few years back, and paid somewhat more than $20 for my seat. I thought it was tedious, but the audience ate it up like popcorn.

anything from 'Godspell' in the mix? Great record, IMHO. Prefer the film soundtrack to the play - I think there's an extra track written just for the film version.

This is more of a cabinet of curiosities.
Avatar Fri. 8/28/15 12:14pm still b/p:

I was startled in '73 when three seats for Debbie Reynolds in Irene cost $45. Don't remember other prices for the five or so shows I caught that summer in a short burst o' Broadway exposure.

More like "early wrappers." I work in a building with a staircase designed by Escher. Or so I claim.

If you leave the cheese out of the pesto until actual use, it maintains better color (I am told).
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/28/15 1:23pm Mike East:

I made pesto a couple weeks back with walnuts...cheaper and easier to find (and typically stocked in my cupboard anyway) and produces the same affect as pignolis.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/28/15 1:23pm Mike East:

or is it effect? I always screw that up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/28/15 1:24pm Uncle Michael:

Hello lurkers! Help yourself to refreshments!

Pignolas here...thinking about leaving the cheese out.
  Fri. 8/28/15 1:24pm Dean:

@Lewis: True.
@Mike East: Agreed. "Effect."

I often throw parsley in my pesto, too. Well, I don't actually "throw" it, but I place it gently in the blender, then grind it to a pulp, er, paste.
Avatar    Fri. 8/28/15 1:25pm Webhamster Henry:

Pignolis - lightly toasted first. But that might work with walnuts too.
  Fri. 8/28/15 1:26pm Dean:

I've even used almonds in a pinch. But never, ever peanuts.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/28/15 1:27pm Uncle Michael:

Yes, my nuts will be toasted.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/28/15 1:29pm Mike East:

I bought a 3 pound bag of peanuts last week thinking my kids could snack on them since they always love the free peanuts at 5guys. I then found out the only reason they like those peanuts is cuz there's the promise of cheeseburgers and french fries. So now I gotta come up with some other things to do with these things. Been snacking on them myself but hardly made a dent.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/28/15 1:30pm Uncle Michael:

Throw them to the critters.
  Fri. 8/28/15 1:32pm Dean:

@Mike East: Use them in pesto.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/28/15 1:33pm Mike East:

  Fri. 8/28/15 1:33pm Dean:

What does he know?
Avatar Fri. 8/28/15 1:34pm northguineahills:

You can always make Thai peanut curry. There are even Mexican salsas that use peanuts, but they're more akin to moles.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/28/15 1:34pm Uncle Michael:

Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/28/15 1:35pm Mike East:

@ngh - yeah, I was thinkin' some Thai stuff.
@UM - in the shell...which is a pain in the ass. I put some in my batch of granola last week and got about a 1/4 cup and gave up.

If you can bribe the family into a marathon shelling session, dip or drizzle the nuts in melted dark chocolate and chill 'em to make premium Goobers.
Avatar Fri. 8/28/15 1:40pm northguineahills:

If you ever have too many raw peanuts in a shell, cajun hot boiled peanuts are super easy to make (but take a while to cook), and you can then freeze them and the make a good snack that last a while.

I was treated to the joys of boiled peanuts in Georgia. They're disgusting.

Colorado peaches for the pie.

I have this BeeGees tune on a best of early years record...first listen thought they were saying "Its your bitch ass"

Mike E, google "African ground nut soup". Nuff said.

Cajun boiled peanuts are the tits. Normal Southern boiled peanuts are ok. I never understood why they sell them on the side of the road, they don't make good driving food.
  Fri. 8/28/15 1:57pm Dean:

One of my early jobs as a kid, 5YO or so, was to pick the peaches from the tree in our backyard, bag 'em up 20 or so to a bag, pack 'em in a red wagon, wheel the wagon around the neighborhood, and sell 'em for a quarter per bag. The neighbors might then reciprocate with samples of the resulting baked goodies.

Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/28/15 1:58pm Uncle Michael:

I wonder if Ella ever served Louis Jordan dessert.
Avatar Fri. 8/28/15 1:58pm Lane Steelpicker:

The ground nut soup is awesome.
  Fri. 8/28/15 1:58pm Woo:

Ella should have scatted this entire song. It would have made as much sense
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/28/15 1:59pm Stevel:

The Ella made me think of the BBC special of Andy Williams show duets.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/28/15 2:12pm Parq:

The movie version of the jukebox musical "Mama Mia" is uneven, and pretty much just for hardcore Abba fans (such as I -- I endorse James's post of the Lester picture), but it had its moments. The rendering of "Winner" is one of them, ending with a helicopter shot that, by me, more than justified the cost of seeing it at the Zigfield.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/28/15 2:13pm Brian in UK:

@Lane how did the gig go last week?

Like The Barracudas.
Avatar Fri. 8/28/15 2:15pm 67tele:

not as jetty as the jets sounded sharky
Avatar Fri. 8/28/15 2:15pm Lane Steelpicker:

Everyone liked it but me and Denise. I played well, but the handoffs from singing to playing were ROUGH. I didn't give it enough prep time. It was good enough for a gig or jam, but a spotlight set should be better than that
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/28/15 2:16pm Brian in UK:

It is all in the prep. Ask the DJ.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/28/15 2:17pm Uncle Michael:

Don't ask this one!
Avatar Fri. 8/28/15 2:18pm Lane Steelpicker:

Unlike Norma Desmond, I wasn't ready for my close-up.
Denise mocked Mr for adding a song I'd only played once before. I ditched Dinah for Minor Swing. I had her write the chart in the car
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/28/15 2:19pm Parq:

Coming up next - Tony Orlando, and a track from Jane Silbury's "Maria".
Avatar Fri. 8/28/15 2:19pm Lane Steelpicker:

Oddly, Minor Swing went better than a couple I'd worked on.

The missus has a very well educated musical ear. Probably the most literate non-musician I've met.
Michael, if I were gonna do a show where I'd learn stuff for a showcase, I actually WOULD ask you for suggestions.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/28/15 2:27pm Uncle Michael:

That's quite a compliment, Lane. Thank you.

There needs to be more Dead Moon played on steel guitar, for starters.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/28/15 2:28pm Brian in UK:

@Lane I thought Jerry Garcia was a very lyrical picker on the Deads Workingman & American Beauty period.
Avatar Fri. 8/28/15 2:29pm Lane Steelpicker:

Very. Like Merle, his musicality always exceeded his chops

Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/28/15 2:36pm Stevel:

Clay's show last night was remarkable. Possibly, you had to be there, involved on the comments board, but I've not had as much fun in recent memory.

Amazing that singers like this and Clifford T Ward little played over here are feted on FMU.
Fri. 8/28/15 2:38pm Matt in Nebraska:

I also dug that Clay Pigeon show. I didn't know that Foghat tune was produced by Dave Edmunds. I couldn't chime in on his playlist b/c I was sweeping clay dust while at work. It truly was "Music to Dust By".
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/28/15 2:39pm Brian in UK:

Have Journey recorded a song called Duncan Browne?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/28/15 2:40pm Uncle Michael:

Hey Matt! Hi.

I wore that Foghat album out when I was a lad.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/28/15 2:41pm efd:

I only found out about "Journey" a few years ago when it was included on a comp called Garden Of Delights several years ago (an excellent comp, btw, if it's still in print) but I've loved Duncan Browne's "Wild Places" since it came out in the mid-'70s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 8/28/15 2:41pm efd:

Definitely a missed opportunity there, Brian in UK.

I love Wild Places.

I think the used copy of that Foghat album I picked up a couple years ago must have been yours, then, UM.
