Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

Has anyone ever traced the source of that GIF and its associated other head-bursty GIFs? The possible context boggles the mind. Explodes it, even.

Only now do I recognize the aptness of SDJ singing this tune.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 4/10/15 12:06pm Uncle Michael:

Greetings and salutations everyone.

No idea about the gif, James!
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 12:07pm chromaphone:

That gif is from a very funny sketch where they ponder the universe I believe. Tim and Eric yes.
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 12:07pm Alex In Illinois:

I never went out of my way to watch Baretta, but I pretty much enjoyed every episode that I did watch. Does anyone remember one starting out with him disguised as an old lady?

Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 12:07pm Gary:

It looks like I didn't mis-hear ... why is he suggesting we keep our eyes on the sparrow?
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 12:08pm listener james from westwood:

True story: My middle school had a detention room w/ a window out onto the main corridor. I was only ever in there once, in 8th grade, for what I'd call justifiable reasons on all sides (the incident and the punishment). My 6th-grade teacher walked by, did a perfect double-take at seeing his perfect-attendance goody-goody student so incarcerated, and stopped in to chat with the penitent. He closed his supportive visit with, "You know what they say, 'Don't do the crime if you can't do the time!'" Was over a decade before I got the reference, and when I heard the song, I said, "THAT's what Mr. Parietti was referring to!!"

tl;dr: I grok Sammy's mouth music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 4/10/15 12:08pm Uncle Michael:

Because god sees every sparrow fall.
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 12:09pm Gary:

Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 12:10pm listener james from westwood:

Just starring this show now. :)
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 12:10pm Alex In Illinois:

It' a Biblical reference, and there are some Gospel and Country-Gospel songs on the "His eye is on the Sparrow" theme.
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 12:10pm listener james from westwood:

(But excited to hear its many meanders and ox-bows.)
  Fri. 4/10/15 12:11pm Dean:

Also, "keep your eye on the duck" would scan weird.
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 12:11pm Jeff Golick:

Isn't there also some providence in the fall of a sparrow?

Hi, again.
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 12:11pm chromaphone:

Wow I finally understand the reference after many many years.
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 12:12pm Gary:

This is even better than their official version, and that was awesome
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 12:12pm Doug Schulkind:

I find this selection oddly satisfying.
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 12:13pm Flash Strap:

Aw yeah Baby Huey
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 12:13pm Alex In Illinois:

@Dean: advice for using a shooting gallery, maybe. An idea for a parody song. Speaking of ducks, isn't the Baby Huey comic book character a duck?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 4/10/15 12:13pm The Odd Selektor:

Thanks, Doug.
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 12:13pm Gary:

Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 12:19pm Evan in NC:

@Flash Strap: I am actually Evan from Maryland but have been in Greensboro, NC long enough to call it home. I don't genuflect before the flag, though. Once you've lived in a state like Maryland, no other state flag inpires such awe.
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 12:20pm Evan in NC:

Sorry for the gratuitous flag-bragging, everyone.
Avatar Fri. 4/10/15 12:21pm Flash Strap:

Tammy Lynn was kind of a fixture the couple of years that the Ponderosa Stomp did summer shows in New York. She's seen better days, I'm afraid, although she looked pretty good the night they did a tribute to Wardell Quezergue at Alice Tully Hall.

Poets corner - Sandburg:

RED barns and red heifers spot the green
grass circles around Omaha-the farmers
haul tanks of cream and wagon loads of cheese.

Shale hogbacks across the river at Council
Bluffs-and shanties hang by an eyelash to
the hill slants back around Omaha.

A span of steel ties up the kin of Iowa and
Nebraska across the yellow, big-hoofed Missouri River.
Omaha, the roughneck, feeds armies,
Eats and swears from a dirty face.
Omaha works to get the world a breakfast.
