hello Jeff and alternate listeners.
Avatar Mon. 3/30/15 12:06pm Jeff Golick:

Greetings, @Artie and @coelacanth! You're looking well today.
Avatar Mon. 3/30/15 12:06pm Jeff Golick:

Btw, The Spanish Donkey is:

Joe Morris - guitar
Jamie Saft - echoplex piano
Mike Pride - drums
Avatar Mon. 3/30/15 12:08pm Doug Schulkind:

Oh yes. This is good "doin' yer taxes" music indeed.
Avatar    Mon. 3/30/15 12:09pm duke:

Good afternoon, fellow DOers.
Avatar Mon. 3/30/15 12:10pm Rich in Washington:

Mornin', all!
Avatar Mon. 3/30/15 12:10pm Jeff Golick:

Good afternoon, @duke and @Doug!

@Doug, fwiw, some blues also coming up later in the show.
Avatar Mon. 3/30/15 12:11pm Jeff Golick:

Up and at 'em, @Rich!
  Mon. 3/30/15 12:12pm Dean:

Been off the radar for a while, during which time I had the pleasure of visiting Chicago's Jazz Record Mart. Picked up, among other items, Rich Corpolongo's early "Sonic Blast."
Avatar Mon. 3/30/15 12:12pm Jeff Golick:

I love how this one sounds like it's going to break into a structured song at any minute...
Avatar Mon. 3/30/15 12:13pm Jeff Golick:

Howdy, @Dean. Don't know that one! Do tell...
  Mon. 3/30/15 12:16pm Uncle Michael:

People passing through the staff and faculty parking lot where I have this cranked up are looking at me funny.
Avatar Mon. 3/30/15 12:16pm Rich in Washington:

this is plenty smokin'!
Avatar Mon. 3/30/15 12:17pm Jeff Golick:

Don't they know you yet, @Uncle Michael? (Hello.)
Avatar Mon. 3/30/15 12:17pm listener james from westwood:

@Doug, let WFMU be your spiritual accountant and deduct your way to glory.
  Mon. 3/30/15 12:18pm Uncle Michael:

I am a complete cypher.
  Mon. 3/30/15 12:18pm Dean:

First, I'm encouraged that my comment posted at all. Wm. Berger "banned" me from his comments last week for being "contrarian." I think there was one of those misunderstandings exacerbated by the virtual forum. Anyway, I love Corpolongo's work on Delmark. I haven't played "Sonic Blast" just yet, but I gather it's informed, if not explicitly, by Brotzmann's ilk. On his later records he approaches music making more traditionally, along the lines of bop. Always tasty. Here are some samples: http://richardcorpolongo.com/rcdiscs.html
  Mon. 3/30/15 12:19pm flint mitch:

maybe it was for posting links...?
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 3/30/15 12:20pm doca:

Hi, people
Avatar Mon. 3/30/15 12:20pm Jeff Golick:

People: Hi, @doca!
Avatar Mon. 3/30/15 12:21pm Doug Schulkind:

If simple contrarianism was enough to shut down conversation, there would be no WFMU.
Avatar Mon. 3/30/15 12:21pm Jeff Golick:

Thanks for the link, @Dean. That's curious about the banning, but glad to see it's not affecting things here.

S'up, @flint mitch!
  Mon. 3/30/15 12:25pm Dean:

I did admit to being a contrarian.

En route to Chicago I was expecting to hear Corpolongo live at some bar northwest of downtown. I called to make sure he was still doing his weekly gig. The nice, and I am going to assume post-middle age, female bartender had no idea what I was talking about. "Does he play jazz? Sorry, honey, we haven't had music here in awhile." Bummer.
  Mon. 3/30/15 12:26pm Dean:

Anyway, I plan to agree with everything everybody says here until I've redeemed myself.
Avatar Mon. 3/30/15 12:26pm Rich in Washington:

I've only worked the controls of the comment machine a few times but I have to say that woofmoo lister/commenters are some of the most engaging, polite and interesting ones around.
Avatar Mon. 3/30/15 12:27pm listener james from westwood:

@Dean: I get the feeling said DJ can be prickly sometimes. But the smoothing of nuance is indeed a side effect of text-only communication.
  Mon. 3/30/15 12:28pm Dean:

@ljfw: Well! I've never been so insulted in my life!

Avatar Mon. 3/30/15 12:35pm Doug Schulkind:

Liking very much.
Avatar Mon. 3/30/15 12:35pm listener james from westwood:

Heh! It's even tougher to be subtle in a tweet. I have to admit emoticons or emoji are vital there for same.
Avatar Mon. 3/30/15 12:37pm Rich in Washington:

Your playlist's on fire, Jeff!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 3/30/15 12:41pm Uncle Michael:

Who is that imposter up there?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 3/30/15 12:43pm Uncle Michael:

I've given up trying to tweet subtly. I just excuse myself for a moment, now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 3/30/15 12:44pm Brian in UK:

Hello Jeff so low.

Are you really Dean? You seem like a Mary to me.
Avatar    Mon. 3/30/15 12:47pm duke:

We're all imposters today.
Avatar Mon. 3/30/15 12:48pm Jeff Golick:

Thanks, @Rich. Time to put it out, I guess.

@duke: bingo.
Avatar Mon. 3/30/15 12:56pm Jeff Golick:

Giving this one a chance, but it's feeling too gooey to me now.
Avatar Mon. 3/30/15 12:57pm Jeff Golick:

Hi, @Brian in UK!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 3/30/15 12:59pm Brian in UK:

Jeff, had some mighty fine tilling just now. The spuds will be ready for planting at Easter in the lower pasture. Along with onions and shallots.
Avatar Mon. 3/30/15 1:07pm Doug Schulkind:

I've always (apparently mis)pronounced it Weasel-man.
Avatar Mon. 3/30/15 1:08pm Doug Schulkind:

A lotta fill-ins this week on Give the Drummer Radio"

Micah Moses is filling in for Tony Coulter tomorrow.

Jeff Mullan is filling in for Amanda Nazario on Wednesday.

Ted Barron is filling in for Matt Fiveash on Thursday.
Avatar Mon. 3/30/15 1:10pm Jeff Golick:

Thanks for that, Doug!
Avatar Mon. 3/30/15 1:11pm Jeff Golick:

@Doug: well it certainly *could* be Weasel-man.
Avatar Mon. 3/30/15 1:11pm Jeff Golick:

@Brian: I am green (onions) with envy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 3/30/15 1:15pm Brian in UK:

When I say lower pasture, use your imagination. Rain has precluded further work. Beer o'clock here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 3/30/15 1:17pm doca:

Hi, again, people, I took a nap on GY!BE and awoke at the end of that Wieselman piece.
@Jeff G: That doesn't say anything about the quality of the show, just about how tired I was.
Avatar Mon. 3/30/15 1:18pm Jeff Golick:

Hi again, @doca! No offense taken -- I love a good nap.
Avatar Mon. 3/30/15 1:20pm listener james from westwood:

That is one mighty fill-in roster.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 3/30/15 1:24pm coelacanth:

i'm trying to imagine having that Godspeed You! track as the soundtrack to a dream.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 3/30/15 1:28pm northguineahills:

I know Aram! I went to school w/ him at UF before he moved to Chicago. He used to play in ska bands, and then one day I asked him to play w/ my noise band. Next thing I know, he's playing w/ Sam Rivers and decided to try his luck first in DC, then Chicago.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 3/30/15 1:30pm doca:

@coelacanth: I don't think I've had any dreams this time, but I'll try again later. Have you seen this? www.youtube.com...
Avatar Mon. 3/30/15 1:30pm Jeff Golick:

Noice, @northguineahills! And hello, sir.
Avatar Mon. 3/30/15 1:32pm Jeff Golick:

@doca: that vid...I don't even know.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 3/30/15 1:33pm doca:

@Jeff: That's my dream daughter
Avatar Mon. 3/30/15 1:41pm Jeff Golick:

Careful what you wish for, @doca.
Avatar Mon. 3/30/15 1:51pm Doug Schulkind:

I have to go to twerk. Have great rest of show, solo Jeff!
Avatar Mon. 3/30/15 1:52pm Jeff Golick:

Thanks, @Doug! Do not whistle while you twerk.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 3/30/15 1:53pm coelacanth:

doca OH MY GOD!!
Avatar Mon. 3/30/15 1:57pm Doug Schulkind:

I will, however, twhistle.
  Mon. 3/30/15 2:00pm Dean:

Back from a meeting. @Brian in UK @12:44: I'm not quite contrary. Just contrary. No garden. No cockles, no mussels, no pretty maids.

This Aqsak Maboul has to be National Health in disguise.

Avatar Mon. 3/30/15 2:09pm Jeff Golick:

Brother Stanley! Welcome.
Avatar    Mon. 3/30/15 2:11pm Guido from Cologne:

I missed the re-formed Aqsak Maboul last week.
they must have been great as I heard from witnesses.
Avatar Mon. 3/30/15 2:12pm Jeff Golick:

Hadn't heard about that, @Guido. Where was the concert? (Also, hi.)
Avatar    Mon. 3/30/15 2:15pm Guido from Cologne:

Hi Jeff!
There was (hope the long link works):
Avatar    Mon. 3/30/15 2:16pm Guido from Cologne:

Mark Hollander on keys and Veronique Vincent on the mike.
Avatar Mon. 3/30/15 2:17pm Jeff Golick:

Worked! Thanks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 3/30/15 2:17pm coelacanth:

Thanks doca! i've watched that video about 5 X now, and i swear the man's voice sounds like a wfmu dj!
(maybe Chris M.?)
Avatar    Mon. 3/30/15 2:33pm Guido from Cologne:

Exquse me, did I get "Aksak Maboul, a Frith/Cutler-project"?

If so ... no, it is a Belgian band ... though in the beginning very much related to Recommended Records. Mark Hollander is one of the co-founders of Crammed Disc though. Get the story here:
Avatar Mon. 3/30/15 2:36pm Jeff Golick:

My ignorance revealed, @Guido. Thanks for the corrective. I was misled by the personnel, which has Frith and Cutler all over the album.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 3/30/15 2:52pm doca:

What an excellent show today, Jeff G.
Avatar Mon. 3/30/15 2:53pm Jeff Golick:

Oh thanks, @doca! Thought this one might've gotten away from us a little bit...
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 3/30/15 2:53pm doca:

@coelacanth: Hahah that video is great. I wonder if it is really the daughter from a WFMU DJ
Avatar Swag For Life Member Mon. 3/30/15 2:54pm doca:

@Jeff: Both the destinations out and destinations in were great
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Mon. 3/30/15 2:57pm Uncle Michael:
