Hey, guys, what's up?
Avatar Wed. 1/28/15 7:15pm listener james from westwood:

Soooo, they're gonna give Lomax an honorary Nobel at the century mark for his work in the sonic service of humanity, right? Right?
Avatar Wed. 1/28/15 7:16pm Gary:

@James The title of a certain Beach Boys song comes to mind.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 1/28/15 7:17pm Holly in NC:

@Holly in NC
Don't work too hard. (And don't poke too hard, either!)
Avatar Wed. 1/28/15 7:22pm hyde:

this is where I mention yet again that I really need to read that Alan Lomax biography by John Szwed
Avatar Wed. 1/28/15 7:29pm Gary:

John Szwed! Yes, that's the one I was thinking of. I read a brief excerpt (maybe the opening) from it the other night online
Avatar Wed. 1/28/15 7:30pm ndbob:

I used to have a bunch of LOC Lomax Lps
Avatar Wed. 1/28/15 7:36pm hyde:

I wish I was in Mass. where I have my LP's and digital backups, I can't even remember what Lomax records I have. All I have on my laptop is the Blues in the Mississippi Night comp and the amazing Historic Recording Vol. 7 (India).

Of course back at my house in Mass there's two dang feet of snow, too.
Avatar Wed. 1/28/15 7:37pm Gary:

If you were stuck at home in two feet of snow, you could totally justify just hanging out listening to records all night. And, yes, we'll be hearing from India at some point tonight.
  Wed. 1/28/15 7:39pm Doug Schulkjnd:

Loving this and by this I mean ALL this.
Avatar Wed. 1/28/15 7:40pm schmutz:

@Gary: Hahah sorry
Avatar Wed. 1/28/15 8:07pm listener james from westwood:

Sweet view, doca! We lucked out massively in my part of NJ, but New England has snow and flooding in spots. I do not miss my winters at college up there; lots of walking across campus in single-digit weather.
Avatar Wed. 1/28/15 8:19pm hyde:

hah, doca. don't taunt us!

huh, i guess i have a few of these Italian Treasury records too. I don't have these labeled as Lomax.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 1/28/15 8:41pm doca:

I think of mob
Avatar Wed. 1/28/15 8:41pm hyde:

according to this, the Italian Treasury Lp's were recorded by "Alan Lomax and Italian ethnomusicologist Diego Carpitella, from June 1954 to January 1955. The two researchers paired exceptionally in energy, courage, determination, and passion in the undertaking of their project. Within the span of seven months of a tight recording schedule, hopping from one location to the next, they managed to collect about three thousand recordings." is.gd...

Avatar Wed. 1/28/15 8:43pm northguineahills:

(recordings, photos, intrviews, galore) I've been going through it for about a year, probably another year before I'm done.)

@ngh yeah, that site is fantastic
  Wed. 1/28/15 8:44pm Wilson:

Aw man! Why you gotta dismiss the South? What about my man Bascom Lamar Lunsford?
Avatar Wed. 1/28/15 8:45pm hyde:

@Wilson yep, that's another good one!
Avatar Wed. 1/28/15 8:46pm Gary:

I accidentally got a song ahead here -- this is not Viraha, this is Baul Song
