Before we adopted a dog, we spent a week tossing around potential dog names. In the end, we kept the one that the pound had given her.

I'm going to miss being on after Amanda. As sad as not being on after Davy Jones anymore. Making a decision is sometimes hard.
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:02pm Uncle Michael:

Have people seen the 'Happy Together' isolated vocal?
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:02pm Uncle Michael:

gif Avatar!
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:03pm Uncle Michael:

Yes, was just about to ASK about Ken's avatar.
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:04pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

P.S. Sorry to hear about the phone aquisition, Amanda! Another one bites the dust. Well, at least it keeps 8-year old factory workers employed (for the remaining 4 or 5 years of their lives).
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:04pm Uncle Michael:

My gif no work. I revert!
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:05pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

GIF? What GIF?
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:05pm listener james from westwood:

tempted to upgrade from my dumbphone, but have no desire to shell out for data plans that would double my monthly $. also don't want to get rid of my landline. but using handwritten directions vs. GPS is getting a bit tiresome, and my current 6-y-old phone holds a charge about as long as a smooshed firefly.
  Wed. 11/6/13 1:07pm jay c:

virgin mobile has no contract smart phone plans for 37 bucks a month, its cheap, reliable, and you get to support branson
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:07pm Uncle Michael:

I had the sound off because McCarver/Buck so I thought it was the Mumfords.
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:08pm Rich in Washington:

I was in the wrong room.
I made my plea to eschew 'smart' phones in Duane's space.
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:08pm pacific standard simon:

Uncle Michael is wise.
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:09pm Rich in Washington:

I meant to say here: Don't do it, if you can possibly do without.
People on 'smart' phones all the time are the new people who have their TVs on all the time, even when they have company.
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:10pm pacific standard simon:

If you donate bazillions of $$$ to WFMU, you can have an animated avatar. I saw it in the fine print.
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:12pm Amanda:

Hah! The Mumfords.
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:12pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...heard Dropkick Murphys were another ska band w/ horns or something & skinheads liked them - so wrote them off
- then stumbled on '07 album 'Meanest of Times' & really liked it - great writing & energy.
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:12pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

(Shakes Rich's hand) Thank you to everyone who has remained more human and less Borg. en.wikipedia.org...
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:14pm pacific standard simon:

Ah don' even have a dumb-as-a-box-o-rocks phone...
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:15pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:17pm Rich in Washington:

God forbid someone should have a feeling, thought or feeling of loneliness or awkwardness when they're out in public. Really, they should just check the coordinates of their persona and those of their fake friends via social media.
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:22pm Uncle Michael:

How would I geotrack my cat's rfid implant without my phone? I ask you.
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:23pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Really UM? That's kinda kewl - not losing your cat...
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:24pm Uncle Michael:

I made that up.
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:25pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- ah - I think it's kewl though!
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:25pm Uncle Michael:

I thought this was gonna be an AC/DC cover.
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:25pm listener james from westwood:

they'll have an app for that (cat)
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:26pm Uncle Michael:

Television messin' with a sumbitch would be cool.
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:30pm Jeff Golick:

So, what's the scenario?
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:30pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...'that pose is out too - the new thing is to be Right-Wing & care passionatley!'
- brilliant film.
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:36pm Uncle Michael:

I'm filling in for Jesse next Tuesday, fyi.
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:38pm pacific standard simon:

@UM - Hang one o' these doohickeys from your cat's collar:

Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:38pm Amanda:

Oh cool! FYI, Uncle Michael will be filling in for Kaminsky Kamoutsky this Tuesday.
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:38pm Ike:

I used to have Virgin Mobile. Great for low-usage or low-ish/medium-usage levels. But now I have Page Plus, which goes through the Verizon network. That's even cheaper, but it may not support as many smart phone options. I try not to use data, ever.
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:39pm Jeff Golick:

...and FWIW, Jeff J. and I will be in Studio C -- where Amanda is right NOW -- on Monday for yet another Lou Reed show we're calling "Sitting shiva for Lou."
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:40pm Doug Schulkind:

I need to finally break down and get my daughter a phone. She won't be calling a ton, but the texting will be fairly constant. What should we get?
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:41pm Uncle Michael:

Shiva...destroyer of worlds.
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:41pm Jeff Golick:

It'd be great if someone could bring some smoked fish by the studio.
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:41pm Uncle Michael:

I'm making rugalach.
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:41pm Doug Schulkind:

Wow, this Jimmie Rodgers sounds extremely Johnnie Ray-ish.
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:42pm listener james from westwood:

if snapping one's fingers were all it took, i'd be awash in progeny.
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:42pm Kurt Gottschalk:

'the wizard' is my new favorite song.
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:43pm pacific standard simon:

Never sit on Shiva, unless you have a medical condition that requires drastic surgery.
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:43pm ndbob:

Hmm Doug ..just make sure you get a plan with unlimited texting
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:43pm listener james from westwood:

ganesh can hold more people.
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:44pm Jeff Golick:

Doug: as someone who is paying through the nose (and other openings) for my son's phone use, I would highly recommend a basic model with a sliding keyboard and small screen. Not knowing your daughter's level of fandom, I can also recommend avoiding the NFL Mobile app like the plague.
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:45pm Uncle Michael:

My cat is named Bodhi. It's apt. My late cat was named Shiva...equally apt.
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:45pm Jeff Golick:

UM: I love rugalach. (No spelling is adequate, really.) Cinnamon? Chocolate?
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:45pm Amanda:

...BTW, if you want to hear updates such as Jeff's and Michael's, please email Doug to be on the email list for GTDR!

Jeff, I will try to leave the studio in good condition for you guys.
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:46pm Uncle Michael:

My dad texts on an ancient flip phone...using the numeric pad. I'm serious. I recommend that for capping usage.
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:46pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Mr. Golick: Was your Program the one that had the whole 'How Long Has Trane Been Gone' show on?
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:47pm Uncle Michael:

I'm not really making any thing...but if I were coming to sit shiva for lou, I would. Cinnamon or apricot.
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:47pm Jeff Golick:

RevRabbit: No, that was Doug's, I think? Not ours, though...
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:48pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...I will wear black in remembrance of Lou Reed.
- Always. ; )
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:49pm Uncle Michael:

I need to do something for Tuesday's Hinkinsky Dinkoutsky show that I wouldn't normally do. I'm not sure what. Maybe I'll wear pants.
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:49pm Ike:

Doug, if you want cheap prepaid, my understanding is that almost any used Verizon phone will work w/Page Plus. You do NOT have to buy a new one from the Page Plus site.
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:50pm Jeff Golick:

Doug: my son had this phone for a while: www.samsung.com... Pretty indestructible.
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:50pm pacific standard simon:

Do it from the turnpike on an iphone.
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:51pm Jeff Golick:

Thanks, Amanda. Might need to have you on speed dial for if we run into difficulties...
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:51pm Rich in Washington:

Gawd, I love this song!
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:51pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:52pm ndbob:

nice rodent song here!
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:52pm Jeff Golick:

Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:54pm ndbob:

and one more!
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:54pm Uncle Michael:

I had this Tuff Darts album back in 1978.
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:54pm Amanda:

Oohhh, Rats Revenge had a fake ending that faked me out. Sorry.
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:55pm Uncle Michael:

Your love is like nuclear waste.
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:55pm Jeff Golick:

Spotify? You queued up Spotify? Will wonders never cease?
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:55pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...got Rats Pt. 2 on MOJO mag. Garage comp. - so always glad to hear Pt. 1 !...
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:58pm Skirkie:

Playing a song by The Capitols followed by all these songs about rats makes me think of the show Capitol Critters.
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:58pm listener james from westwood:

as usual, this show is better than we rats deserve. thanks muchly, amanda!
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:58pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...our approval is hereby ratified...
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:58pm ndbob:

excellent show Amanda!
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:59pm Jeff Golick:

Rats show biz! Thanks so much, Amanda.
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 1:59pm Uncle Michael:

Very excellent. Thanks Amanda!
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 2:00pm Rich in Washington:

Thanks also for the double dose of Rat music
Avatar Wed. 11/6/13 2:01pm Amanda:

Rats! The show is over. Thank you all for listening!!! I will see you next week.
