Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 8:45am Doug Schulkind:

Hello duke!
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 8:46am hyde:

a quick hello from the world of work! not to worry, I'm catching all the Drummer/Hinky/fiveash/DO Radio stuff in the archives for the time being! back to the grind...
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 8:52am bobdc:

This show is already blowing my mind, and I'm not even listening yet. Must be the animated GIF.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 8:52am ausmanx:

it's very annoying , this summer time business, meaning i only get about the first half hour of you now, doug, while i'm still at work. i suppose i could work on till 2 a.m., but even for the Drummer...
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 8:54am Michael:

Morning Doug and drum people. Weirdly balmy 68 degrees here in Boston today so ready for some heat. Or cool. You decide Doug.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 8:55am Doug Schulkind:

Heya hyde!
Greetings, bobdc!
Welcome back, ausmanx!
You've got a hinky, Michael!
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 8:55am Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

In other pre-show/GTDR business, I too did a sort of Lou Reed (loop) tribute this week: wfmu.org...
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 8:58am Doug Schulkind:

Hey Michael, at first glance, I thought you were Uncle Michael. You DON'T have a hinky. (Yet.)

Everyone go listen to Kenzo's loop. I'm sure it'w way better than this show will be.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 8:59am Doug Schulkind:

@ausmanx
We are about to re-set our clocks here. We will be setting them BACK one hour. Hope that helps.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 8:59am ndbob:

morning Doug and everyone!
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 8:59am Michael:

Aspiring for a hinky to go with my dinky.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 9:00am Uncle Michael:

Take two aspirings and call me in three hours.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 9:02am Doug Schulkind:

Hinkies forever, dinkies five ever.

Morning' ndbob! (typed with a country-bumpkinesque twang)
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 9:02am Doug Schulkind:

Uncle Michael, meet Michael. Let's play The Feud!
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 9:03am Uncle Michael:

If you kiss me, Richard...we're gonna go 'round and 'round.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 9:05am Doug Schulkind:

Family Feud would've been better with Colonel Klink hosting.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 9:06am βrian:

Purple haze over the isthmus today. Good morning.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 9:06am Uncle Michael:

You know what...every member of the cast of Hogan's Heroes would have been a serviceable game show host.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 9:08am Brian in UK:

Hello Doug
'scuse me while I kiss the isthmus.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 9:10am Doug Schulkind:

Ha ha! We've tapped into the βrian/Brian continuum! Welcome lads!
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 9:11am Doug Schulkind:

Just a word to say
A BIG, BLUBBERY HEARTFELT THANKS TO ALL WHO PLEDGED DURING THE SILENT FUND DRIVE. (Sorry I shouted.)
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 9:11am βrian:

This βrian is beta. (So to speak.)
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 9:14am dc pat:

Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 9:14am Doug Schulkind:

Glad you're feeling beta, βrian.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 9:15am Doug Schulkind:

Holy dead presidents, Batman, we have another pledge!!

And it's from....our own KENZO!

Thanks comrade!
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 9:15am Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Geezus, I'd forgotten to pledge. Here 'goes! Anyone want to pitch in $55 more for Doug, either his dog's tail will wag or his cow's moo will moo.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 9:16am Doug Schulkind:

Happy day to you dc (space) pat!
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 9:20am still b/p:

I like The Vortex of Dorrie Ann Gray.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 9:21am ausmanx:

subtitling heavy film about young chilean bisexuals tonight, so this all seems a reasonable soundtrack...
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 9:23am Doug Schulkind:

Glad your still b/p, still b/p.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 9:23am Doug Schulkind:

@ausmanx
I was a young chilean bisexual back in my wild youth.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 9:24am ausmanx:

well, if this film is about your life, it WAS a wild youth...
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 9:26am doca:

Hi, Doug and Drummers, I know it's boring to advertise, but since you're on a Brazilian mood, you might get interested in this album some friends of mine just released, it's a contemporary post-rock Brazilian nugget, I guess (if that even exists): trompa.bandcamp.com...
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 9:31am Doug Schulkind:

Thanks doca! I'll check it out after the shew.

Did that child come to my door for candy last night?
  Fri. 11/1/13 9:40am El Thatchmo:

That must be Dingbat Alien on Glissando Guitar, right?
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 9:41am Doug Schulkind:

I know nothing of this wonderful track. Anyone have a backstory? Intriguingly, when I Google its title, I am led to this Wikipedia page: fr.wikipedia.org...

(The title appears in a footnote.)

France, 1970, Haunted Chateau era: It must be some psych club from then and there like the Obsolete record
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 9:47am Lewis:

good morning all - today's goal: unread email less than 10... (starting at slightly less than 200, but there will be lots of obsolete stuff)
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 9:48am Doug Schulkind:

You're doing God's work, Lewis.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 9:48am Doug Schulkind:

Jesus, think how stuffed God's email in-box must be. Wow!
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 9:49am Doug Schulkind:

I bet the NSA knows the precise number of emails.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 9:49am Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Lewis! Tell me how you got it down to so few digits in the first place.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 9:49am Lewis:

maybe God has a *really* good set of filters
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 9:50am Uncle Michael:

I forward all of my email to Dave Null.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 9:51am Lewis:

@Kenzo - yes, that it s good point. I am brutal with the delete key.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 9:51am Doug Schulkind:

@Uncle Michael
That was a Unix joke! (I Googled.)
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 9:52am Lewis:

@UM, yes Dave Null is a pretty good solution as well.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 9:53am Uncle Michael:

I didn't even know Google knew my Unix joke. Damn you NSA!
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 9:54am Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

@Lewis: You've interesting tweets (seen on your profile wfmu.org...)
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 9:55am Lewis:

@Kenzo - glad you like them! thanks!
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 9:55am Doug Schulkind:

Way funnier than a eunuch's joke.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 9:56am duke:

According to LinkedIn There are 25 professionals named Dave Null www.linkedin.com... It requires that many to handle all of the emails.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 9:57am still b/p:

A really hokey such joke: eunuch corn.

Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 10:19am Doug Schulkind:

@northguineahills
Actually, before the silent fund drive, I revised down my goal by $500. I don't want to be greedy or nothin'.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 10:21am listener james from westwood:

Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 10:22am Doug Schulkind:

"Penis gun freaky land" just about sums it up perfectly.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 10:22am Uncle Michael:

Is this a hockey song?
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 10:22am Doug Schulkind:

Hi Listener James. Just be glad your dad isn't the one spewing smoke and acid out the top!

Janet Greene using "dialectic" in her anti-commie lyrics: Priceless!
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 10:23am Uncle Michael:

I think Doug's show is an 'E' ticket at Penisgunfreakyland.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 10:24am Doug Schulkind:

This song is gonna get adultish.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 10:24am northguineahills:

That made my day, Holly, lultz!
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 10:24am bobdc:

This "Poor Left Winger" reminds me of the "conservative folk songs" that Tim Robbins (and his brother?) wrote for the movie "Bob Roberts." Those songs were deliberate parodies, but Robbins still declined to release them on a CD because he was worried that the wrong people would play them for the wrong reasons.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 10:24am glenn:

Wow, that thing looks like the cane my father walks with.

Hallo, Shaun, you big meanie!

@Holly in NC
Lincoln was a "shadow hunter." I forget which book series that character inhabits. One read by EVERY teenage girl in the universe, I believe.

Leather & tattoos! Or at least that's where google took me...sounds like a perfect costume as long as L. wasn't a "sexy shadow hunter" ;-)

@Carmichael - drat! I forgot the rabbits. I believe my first words this morning were "no, not yet you little monsters" (to cats re breakfast). Bad karma this month.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 11:09am Doug Schulkind:

What is it about intoning "rabbit"! Around a campfire, when the smoke gets in your eyes, aren't you supposed to say, "I hate rabbits." ??
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 11:10am Doug Schulkind:

@Holly in NC
She was more a "baddass shadow hunter." Blessedly.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 11:11am Holly in NC:

@Doug, I was taught by my mother to say "rabbit rabbit rabbit" 1st thing upon awakening the 1st day of each month to ensure good luck for the month. I have NO idea why.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 11:12am Lewis:

I was taught that you only needed 2 rabbits... but I forgot this month (and most other months as well)
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 11:13am Carmichael:

As was I, Holly. Also no idea why. My mom was batshit crazy, if that helps.

my mom didn't teach me this - it was a batshit crazy girl-friend (maybe that explains the missing rabbit) (crazy, yes. wonderful also yes)
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 11:17am duke:

I think my first words this morning were "Shit, is it time to get up already?" I don't think that brings good luck.

I always figured it was a crazy German-American tradtion (hiding a pickle on the Xmas tree, anyone?) but appears more likely British...

Super show Doug, thank you. I am so sorry I can't wag a tail, my monthly pledge has me tapped out. I fervently hope some other friends can get you over the edge!

That pledge meter includes pledges from your previous shows during this fund drive, right?

I just found a pledge form for my Alma Mater's radio station for a pledge drive from September. oops.I guess I better write that check now. It is a good thing that WFMU allows us to make our pledges on-line using a credit card. I think I recall Paypal also being an option.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 11:55am Doug Schulkind:

OK, let me get out the GOOD records for you, ndbob!
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 11:55am Uncle Michael:

First time Dylan heard this his reaction was "...oh...duh."
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 11:56am Doug Schulkind:

Yes, Alex in Illinois. The pledge total shown is for the entire month of October (and, quite possibly, November!)
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 11:57am Alex In Illinois:

Wow! Love this version of Mr. Tambourine Man! Have you ever heard the William Shatner version?
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 11:57am northguineahills:

Far out, Doug! Thanks!
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 11:57am Doug Schulkind:

Are you kidding, Uncle Michael. When Dylan heard this he said, I've GOT to record this.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 11:57am Uncle Michael:

Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 11:59am Alex In Illinois:

How come it lets me favorite the Talkover music, but it would not let me favorite the Tambourine Man song?

Thanks Doug...Great Show!
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 12:00pm Stanley:
