Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

Hello agin. Ah the Lyceum. Another vacant venue.
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 12:31pm Jeff Golick:

I'll just be over here in the corner, ripping my old Soul Children CDs to the external HD.

Q: How many Deadheads does it take to screw in a light bulb?
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 12:32pm Brian in UK:

Remember the first time I hear Uncle Johns Band. That got my attention!!
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 12:32pm Brian in UK:

@Jeff Who is it?
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 12:32pm Jeff Golick:

A: Fuckin' Jerry, man.

(@Brian: good guess!)

Cosmic, man, my old buddy Eddie the Deadhead calls me yesterday after 35 years, now Jerry and the boys on FMU.
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 12:34pm glenn:

i'm pretty sure the first dead album is my favourite.
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 12:35pm listener james from westwood:

sweet jam, this.
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 12:36pm Uncle Michael:

Yesterdaay would have been Jer's 71st birthday.
  Fri. 8/2/13 12:37pm Jack:

That's right, Eddie did wish me happy Jerry's birthday.
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 12:38pm Uncle Michael:

I stole this track from the 24 hour GTDR stream...at least the idea for playing it.
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 12:39pm Rich in Washington:

Ah, it looks like the gif at the top is playing the guitar solo!
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 12:40pm Rich in Washington:

@Uncle Michael: no shame in that. So many cool songs copped from the GTDR stream!
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 12:41pm Uncle Michael:

I have no shame.
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 12:41pm Rich in Washington:

I am a bit more apprehensive about playing something I've heard on a live show - I guess there's a moratorium period for me. :)
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 12:42pm Uncle Michael:

I feel the same thing. I'm only a dozen shows in and I've nixed things several times for that reason.
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 12:42pm Rich in Washington:

I can't even guess how many times some selection on the stream has made me google the song, track it down and even - Bob forbid - buy the CD, record, etc...
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 12:46pm listener james from westwood:

can't recall which dj it was, rich, but one guy said during his marathon shift that there are songs and albums out there that only appear as google hits on tony coulter's playlists. the archived playlists are such a fertile resource. and a hazard to the wallet!
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 12:48pm Jeff Golick:

Ok! Time to go to work! Catch y'all on t'other side.
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 12:49pm Uncle Michael:

See ya Jeff.
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 12:51pm Rich in Washington:

@Listener James: I am sure that's the case. Tony's playlists are a treasure trove of almost completely unheard sounds.
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 12:53pm Rich in Washington:

That last song was kinky. Or maybe it's just me.
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 12:54pm listener james from westwood:

ah, man, there's no good time to go get the mail, hit the loo, etc. during gtdr. even the mike breaks are must-hears.
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 12:55pm Uncle Michael:

Next time bring a bucket.
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 12:56pm Rich in Washington:

I've got my house wired so I can hear it in virtually any room (barring disturbing sleeping persons). Really ghetto tech, too. I don't need no esteenking bluetooth!
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 1:00pm Brian in UK:

This song used to advertise Cadburys Creme Eggs at Easter Time. Funny old world.
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 1:01pm Brian in UK:

@UM glad you put the Doo-Dah in. Originally it was Dada.
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 1:02pm Uncle Michael:

I know but I think it was Doo-Dah on that single...hard to keep track. The eventually dropped Doo-Dah.
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 1:05pm Rich in Washington:

I love that 'Songs the Bonzos Taught Us' comp.
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 1:08pm Brian in UK:

@Rich is there a better line than that on Tent. 'Cause my baby is as beautiful as a tourniquet'
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 1:11pm Uncle Michael:

I have that collection too, Rich.
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 1:14pm KevinfromBayRidge:

Hey Hinky-Dinkers! Garth Hudson- 76 years young today. Just sayin'.
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 1:15pm Uncle Michael:

I hope he's free of Chest Fever.
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 1:17pm KevinfromBayRidge:

Heard he performed it with Wilco in Saratoga recently.
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 1:17pm Brian in UK:

Good link UM. Or Mercury Rev's Hudson Line.
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 1:17pm Uncle Michael:

Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 1:19pm KevinfromBayRidge:

"Still standing" is a rare & precious status amongst Band personnel.
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 1:36pm Uncle Michael:

Everyone is in a persistent meditative state.
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 1:43pm listener james from westwood:

i'm pursuing the zen of postprandial semiconsciousness. lucky the current editing is pretty low-level.
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 1:45pm Uncle Michael:

just a few participles dangled?
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 1:51pm Jeff Golick:

Hey, s'up.

Can't believe I missed one of my fave Kinks songs. Ah, well.
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 1:52pm listener james from westwood:

i've misplaced my modifiers! i might have to splice a few commas together.
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 1:52pm Uncle Michael:

serial comma killer!
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 1:52pm listener james from westwood:

star it and listen back in a few hours!
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 1:53pm listener james from westwood:

heh, not in the current job; it's a serial serial-comma user. the one client for which i had to omit the oxford comma nearly broke my brain.
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 1:54pm Jeff Golick:

Comma coma, eh, LJFW?

Done starred.
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 1:55pm listener james from westwood:

the most recent decision: set quotes around titles of youtube videos, instead of setting them italic.
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 2:01pm Brian in UK:

@james I see John Simpson is to retire in October as editor of the OED.
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 2:02pm Brian in UK:

@UM you are going to be cookin' when Singles Going Steady kicks in.
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 2:03pm Uncle Michael:

It will be kicking in? I have the vinyl? What's happening?
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 2:04pm glenn:

random house is publishing a robby robertson book. he's making my g.f. tear her hair out.
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 2:05pm Uncle Michael:

Does he blame everyone for everything?
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 2:06pm glenn:

i don't know, but he changes his mind A LOT.
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 2:06pm Jeff Golick:

Strutting. Wish I had some barbecue.
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 2:06pm Jeff Golick:

She should tell him to write fuckin' LOUD.
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 2:07pm Brian in UK:

I think it happens around October. Check with the boss.
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 2:07pm Uncle Michael:

with extra stank sauce
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 2:08pm listener james from westwood:

brian, that seems like the sort of position where they just find you face down in a mass of manuscripts.
glenn, is your gf a copy editor or a production/developmental in-house editor?
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 2:08pm Brian in UK:

Weasly man. Never got over Neil Diamond at their farewell concert.
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 2:10pm glenn:

she's not an editor. she's production manager.
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 2:11pm listener james from westwood:

oh, man, so at any one time she can be suffering multiple headaches from myriad projects. she has my sympathies.
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 2:13pm Jeff Golick:

@glenn: mine, too. A former editor, I was always deathly afraid of prod mgrs. Mostly because I never had good news for them.
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 2:16pm listener james from westwood:

my prod managers before i went freelance (and still to this day, thankfully) have been benevolent, but seeing what their bosses put THEM through scared me out of ever doing their jobs.
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 2:16pm Stanley:

Tom Jones having four testicles doesn't surprise me.
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 2:17pm glenn:

lady gaga?
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 2:18pm Alex In Illinois:

Paul Simon?
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 2:18pm Uncle Michael:

Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 2:20pm Jeff Golick:

...of Tom & Jerry fame!
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 2:20pm Uncle Michael:

Tom Graph and Jerry Landis
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 2:29pm Jeff Golick:

Speaking of Husker Du, I would think this crew would find this Robert Palmer vid of interest: www.youtube.com...
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 2:31pm Uncle Michael:

Will look after the program. Thanks.
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 2:32pm Jeff Golick:

Just got hipped to it earlier today...
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 2:34pm Rich in Washington:

That and Zen Arcade were the only Husker Du albums I've ever owned. I still have my original NDR but someone has long ago stolen my copy of ZA, which was on cassette.
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 2:35pm Rich in Washington:

Palmer always had interesting taste in covers. He even covered Gary Numan.
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 2:41pm Rich in Washington:

Was it Elmore James whose guitar sound Zappa said "sounded like an icepick in the forehead"?
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 2:41pm glenn:

dallas frazier?
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 2:42pm glenn:

oh. well, this is a dallas frazier song.
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 2:49pm Brian in UK:

First & second Robert Palmer solos still stand the test of time.
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 2:50pm Brian in UK:

@Rich was that I Dream of Wires? Loved Johnny & Mary off that album.
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 2:53pm Rich in Washington:

@BiUK: Yes. And a relatively obscure one, at that.
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 2:57pm Rich in Washington:

Numan and Palmer's respective versions of the song are in the same tempo and key: goo.gl... (don't open 'til end of Hinky Dinkimas)
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 2:58pm Uncle Michael:

"Last song people" not riding the storm out
Avatar Fri. 8/2/13 3:01pm listener james from westwood:
