Henry's review from Mike:
Mike D.
North Hollywood, CA

I see why this place closed:
so i went to my barber yesterday and found it that it was right next to henry's. Last day, no line, why not.
2 hard tacos, 1 soft taco (which ended up being 2 soft tacos), 1 tostada, 1 order of chili, large orange bang. almost 20 bucks.
hard shelled items were okay but I wouldn't say they were better than taco bell/del taco. Most certainly far worse than the glorious hard shell tacos at the now defunct El Taco Llama.
But the soft taco and chili WTF. Had 1 bite of each and threw the rest away. Serious waste of food and money.

Henry's grave:
“I’m tired, I’m alone,” Janis Hood sighs. “I’m nearing 60,” (she’s 57). “I don’t have a husband. I don’t have children. I have nieces back in Arkansas that are 3 and 4 years old, and I’ve never seen them. I’m ready to let it all go.”
So yes, publicly she is mad at the landlord who owns the property who wouldn’t let her sell the business over the past year to three prospective buyers who wanted to keep Henry’s Tacos going as is.
And yes, she’s mad at Los Angeles City Councilman Paul Krekorian because she said he did not push her vintage sign and tiny restaurant to the full Council for a vote that would declare the space a Cultural Historic Landmark. The councilman said he wanted to stay out of the landlord-tenant dispute and would have pushed for the vote if things were settled, but it wasn’t clear why his actions depended on the lease negotiations.
Yes, she’s mad, but personally, Hood is ready to move on.

Henry's going going gone!:
Decades-old Valley institution Henry's Tacos closed Sunday night and just a few hours later its Googie-style signs and menus were gone. While a Henry's employee plans to reopen the restaurant in a new location with "the old location's ambience," he's not, as previously reported, going to be using the original signs. Those have gone to the San Fernando Valley Relics preservation group, which plans to put them in a new museum it's working on (this despite "even movie producers" clamoring to get their hands on them), reports the Daily News. (The new Henry's signs will be modeled on the originals.) SFV Relics has stashed "some 10,000 Valley treasures" in a 20,000 square foot factory in North Hollywood--goods include a "handwritten letter by Isaac Newton Van Nuys recalling his journey from the East Coast to Napa in the 1860s," the 1958 sign from the White Horse Inn, a 1940s Jessup Farms Dairy wagon, and "nearly a century of yearbooks from Van Nuys and San Fernando high schools" (which sounds like potentially the greatest collection of haircuts ever). The group plans to open its Valley Relics Museum in early May.

Rex- yes, the drums went UNDER WATER. When they were pulled out, they were all FULL of seawater. I curse the fates, sobbed a lot, and in a moment of clarity, did the right thig-- drained them and put the rims back on backwards. Took them home to dry out. Cleaned em, new heads, the full-on spa treatment. Played on em New Years Eve and they sound better than ever. Not me, of course, THE KIT! I believe this is one of the few kits that has been fully baptized in brine!
