Listener comments!

  8:15am monica:

good morning, doug & amanda! showed up early to make sure i got a good seat.
  8:19am Doug Schulkind:

Hey Monica! Pass the cranberry sauce! (On second thought... no.)
  8:46am listener james from westwood:

morning all and welcome amanda and doug!
  8:46am Van in Dallas:

Happy Black Friday Doug & Amanda & listeners.
  8:47am glenn:

keener keener keener!!
  8:47am Doug Schulkind:

Listener JFW! Greetings to you, Sir!

And hallo to you, Van from Big D. Come digest with us!
  8:49am Doug Schulkind:

Hey Glenn, glad you're here. Amanda will be with us once the main studio clears out at WFMU. I have the luxury of having no preceding DJ sitting in my home studio...
  8:51am glenn:

j.m. in the a.m. isn't out waiting for the doors to open for black friday?
  8:53am Doug Schulkind:

Everybody comes to Nachum on black Friday. The man with the goods.
  8:55am Maricôt:

good morning to you all, quite a day, uh?
  8:56am Doug Schulkind:

Hello Maricôt!
  8:57am glenn:

i am eagerly awaiting the musical and verbal badinage atwixt yourself and the divine miss n.
  8:58am Doug Schulkind:

Badinage? That a hundred dollar word!
  9:00am ndbob:

morning doug, amanda and everyone!
  9:01am glenn:

no, BONDAGE is a 100$ word. badinage gotta be worth a thousand, anyway.
  9:02am Doug Schulkind:

Hey hey ndbob, special good early morning to you.

Glenn, the bondage will come after the badinage. Then, much bandages.
  9:04am Amanda:

Hi everyone! Happy Black Friday to one and all.
  9:05am Doug Schulkind:

Yay Amanda!
  9:07am fred von helsing:

Nmmnmmnmm... *pepper spray*
  9:07am listener james from westwood:

that's better. showered and ready for duty. (and always nice to hear the gtds theme away from my computer!) good morning all and howdy amanda! let the games begin!
  9:09am still b/p:

Good morning! I know where you get 70% off bondage prices and half off badinage during Black Friday dare-buster specials!
  9:11am Doug Schulkind:

Thanks for showering, Listener James. Always appreciated.

Morning still b/p. As a young boy, I usta love those signs at Macy's: "Bikinis—half off!"
  9:12am Van in Dallas:

ha ha, I just finished showering, myself. "Working from home" today ;) Time to grab a huge mug of hot coffee, sit back, "work", and enjoy some tunes.
  9:13am listener james from westwood:

oddly enough, i do have work t-shirts. i've never been the fuzzy-slippers-and-sweatpants/shower-at-noon type of freelancer. :) the shower starts the thinking process.
  9:14am still b/p:

Those Macy signs'd make you come to an abrupt halter? ...for a brief look?
  9:14am glenn:

fuzzy slippers and sweatpants basically says "i've given up. kill me now"
  9:15am listener james from westwood:

van, i endorse this "work" plan. i'll be work-working, but i'll be damned if i'm opening my work email.
  9:15am listener james from westwood:

glenn, i'll allow 'em for a sick day. (vs. a "sick day," when all logic says you should be out frolicking in the leaves or scrunching sand with your toes on a beach.)
  9:17am Doug Schulkind:

Listeners James, should't that be a (sic) day? You ol' copyeditor you.
  9:17am glenn:

however, i do encourage women to wear lululemon yoga pants at every opportuniity.
  9:18am fred von helsing:

Speaking of Turkey Day... I'm not sure I've ever heard Native American music on FMU...
  9:18am Van in Dallas:

I have my work email open...since I'm a sys admin kind of guy, I'm just being responsive to issues today...hope there are few :)
  9:19am ndbob:

I think that doug has played some
  9:20am Doug Schulkind:

I surely have played some Native American music on the show. And not just that goofy but lovable cover of the Flintsone's theme either.
  9:20am listener james from westwood:

fred, closest i can think of is the black lodge singers, but not sure if a tribal chant about the flintstones counts.
  9:20am fred von helsing:

"white man come, rape buffalo, shoot women"
  9:21am listener james from westwood:

a+ to doug for the [sic] joke.
  9:21am listener james from westwood:

i think that was the plot of blazing saddles
  9:21am glenn:

don't forget the blankets infected with smallpox.
  9:23am Fuzzy:

we all sing "Yabba Dabba Doo, Yabba Dabba Doo..."
  9:24am fred von helsing:

found it on google, y'all make it sound very intriguing
  9:25am listener james from westwood:

fuzzy, that's the one. got lots of airplay on greasy kid stuff
  9:25am Doug Schulkind:

I spent my honeymoon in the Four Corners area (in SE Utah). Loved hearing the Native American radio stations out there. The only words in English you'd hear were "Coca-Cola"!
  9:28am glenn:

tony hillerman country. one of my favourite writers.
  9:30am Doug Schulkind:

My wife and I were reading one of Hillerman's books whilst there. Action took place all around us.
  9:31am listener james from westwood:

wrote an article once for which i interviewed a doctor who worked at an indian health service station located down in a canyon (off the grand canyon system), the home of a 600-person tribe. his mail arrived by donkey express!
  9:32am Doug Schulkind:

Next set of tunes, courtesy of Amanda!!
  9:33am Amanda:

Oboyoboy
  9:33am Paul Sherratt:

>> And not just that goofy but lovable cover of the Flintsone's theme either.

Well there's that Roxy Gordon and I bet someone at the station will have played some John Trudell ..
  9:34am listener james from westwood:

the drummer scenario!
  9:36am pierre:

Bonjour Doug !
Bonjour listeners extraordinaires !

aawh crap i just bought 3 items at the wfmu Crapola Central, i guess it's just because they have such coll stuffs…
  9:36am Scott McDowell:

Big ups to Doug & Amanda for this morning's assist! Sounding delicious.
  9:37am pierre:

(cool, not "coll" of course)
  9:37am ndbob:

good one here!
  9:38am Doug Schulkind:

I'm not upset with this AT ALL! Go Amanda!
  9:38am listener james from westwood:

better the crapola central than getting maced by a crazed black-friday shopper
  9:40am Amanda:

Aw, hi Scott! Nice to hear from you! We are pleased to do this fillin'-in bizniss.
  9:40am pierre:

@ listener james from westwood : you are totally right.
Living in France, i don't expect to see them before Christmas period, which is not bad, it will feel like the radio send me gifts…
  9:40am maja:

Going nice!! hello all
one more hillerman reader over here,
  9:41am glenn:

i also like james d. doss.
  9:42am Doug Schulkind:

Yes, top of the morning to you Scott. Happy to be filling your comfy loafers for the morning.

And top of the afternoon to you, Pierre!
  9:43am pierre:

Thanks Doug, feels great to be here, will not be able to hear the whole thing, i'm just trying to catch anything i can…
  9:44am listener james from westwood:

with wfmu, the radio always sends gifts. or the webstream.
  9:44am Listener Schned:

Nazario + Schulkind = da killah kombo !! Let us give thanks !!
  9:45am Paul Sherratt:

Junior Brown's guitar
http://www.stevensguitars.com/news/images/guit-steel.jpg
  9:46am pierre:

@ listener james from westwood : again, true.
  9:47am Doug Schulkind:

Brother Paul is in the house! He is the hammer in our collective tool belt.
  9:47am glenn:

okay, now he's just showing off.
  9:48am glenn:

junior, that is.
  9:48am Paul Sherratt:

Doug,

' Mama, Get The Hammer ! ' ..
  9:49am Doug Schulkind:

One can only picture little baby George bouncing on the Duke's knee. (Baby George Clooney, that is.)

Paul,

"...there's a fly on Papa's head!"
  9:51am still b/p:

Fill-in bizness = fizzness!
The members of the Head-Bob Committee of the Peoples Tool Belt Collective love Rosemary.
  9:53am Amanda:

I like to imagine young George Clooney listening in on that duet with Marlene Dietrich as well.
  9:53am glenn:

when snoop dog's doing some work around his crib, does he ask somebody to hand him a chisel, fo' shizzle?
  9:54am fred von helsing:

There's so many nutty links in the comments to all the shows, your webrat oughta write a URL stripper and post it to an RSS feed eh
  9:55am Doug Schulkind:

Snoop Dogg's favorite rock band: Thin Lizzle.
  9:58am Paul Sherratt:

Arthur Alexander always does something to me which I can't quite explain. ( Junior Brown simply makes me drive faster .. )
  9:59am Dave B:

His favoriteavorite part of Thanksgiving turkey: The Gizzle
  9:59am Brian in UK:

Hello duopolists. you can make pretty much any word up by adding 'age'. Look at postage for a start. Is haulage really a word.
Hello Paul, does Townes make you reach for the split infinitive?
  10:00am glenn:

if they were to collaborate, they would be really bad, because then you'd get nabbed for speeding and you wouldn't be able to explain why.
  10:02am Dave B:

favoriteavorite? wow - i need more coffee....
  10:02am listener james from westwood:

smooooth. nice handoffs!
  10:03am Van in Dallas:

Nicely done :)
  10:04am Paul Sherratt:

Brian,
Townes often make me reach for a kleenex ..

glenn,
Would playing the tape to the person in uniform help ?
  10:04am Parq:

Greetnings, folks. Happy buy-nothing day. Looking forward to 'Manda and DrumSum doing their Nelson-Eddy-Jeannette-McDonald bit.
  10:05am Brian in UK:

Sun shining here. Anything can work today, even a coalition.
  10:05am Doug Schulkind:

My streaming broadcast happens with a 20-30 second delay because it's being sent online back to WFMU. Amanda is, of course, live and in vibrant color in real time. Good clean radio fun.

We will sing a duet on our NEXT collaborative show. Deal, Parq?
  10:10am Amanda:

Please, not "Baby, It's Cold Outside."
  10:12am glenn:

doug wouldn't be that cruel.
  10:12am Doug Schulkind:

Please nothing in Portuguese!
  10:13am glenn:

uma casa portugesa. do it!
  10:14am listener james from westwood:

how can you not like a record called bollywood bloodbath?
plus that ululation sounded like the opening of "cars"
  10:14am still b/p:

Unless you do a hillbilly boogie version of Baby, It's Cold Outside, and work in some high-speed runaway-train type Balkan brass action.
  10:15am ndbob:

speaking of cold it got up to 57 yesterday - highly unusual for here
  10:20am fred von helsing:

heck it was 56 in hellsinki too when it should be more like mid-20s
  10:20am listener james from westwood:

thurs and fri both sunny, reasonably warm days out here in nj. not too bad for travel. but had to chip frost off the car early both mornings.
  10:21am Paul Sherratt:

I was curious to see what Bappi looked like.
http://bollywooders.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/BappiLahiri_thumb.jpg
  10:24am Van in Dallas:

This song is really making me happy happy
  10:25am Doug Schulkind:

Then my work is done, Van.
  10:27am fred von helsing:

I hope they're playing today's show as B/G music in some insanely berserko shopping mall
  10:28am ndbob:

saw it quite a while ago doug
  10:28am FW:

Great soundtrack and movie!
  10:36am Doug Schulkind:

What could be better? I get to listen to Amanda's show while doing my show. Brilliant!
  10:42am Doug Schulkind:

We've got our first pepper-spray meets Black Friday moment:

http://tinyurl.com/76r9ydh
  10:45am ndbob:

I saw that Doug - why am I not surprised?.. although I would be surprised if it happened here.
  10:46am fred von helsing:

Doesn't work. Did you mean this? DaveB found it.
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lanow/2011/11/at-wal-mart-pepper-spray-attack-triggered-chaos-screaming.html
  10:48am Doug Schulkind:

Camp out in a tent all night outside Wal-Mart and get pepper-sprayed inside by a shopper who eludes the cops. Camp out all night in a tent at the Univ. of California and get pepper-spray by the cops. The second method just cuts out the middle man!
  10:53am Doug Schulkind:

No relation. Hilarious!
  10:57am glenn:

so, black friday is the day when u.s. retailers start to make a profit ( i.e. go into the black). in order to mark the occasion they sell all kinds of crap at a loss. how does that make sense?
  10:59am Van in Dallas:

Back to the Future for Doug!
  11:00am ndbob:

by luring people into stores who also buy lots of non-discounted crap
  11:02am still b/p:

When someone else gets kilt dead, and a few more mayhem moments cause injury or lawsuits, it'll be interesting to see how the retailers back off their early hours and promotion frenzies.
  11:02am glenn:

ah. so call it loss leader day.
  11:02am fred von helsing:

maybe walmart greeters need hazmat suits
  11:03am listener james from westwood:

or cattle prods
  11:04am Parq:

Pitt more mom and pop retail than NYC? That doesn't surprise me at all -- New York is becoming chain store city. My neighborhood has become completely chain store since I moved here 20 years ago. Bah humbug.
  11:04am glenn:

occupy walmart! i hate those fuckers.
  11:05am Mike East:

Was enjoying the Drummer's Scenario on the way in, and now I get to work and my computer isn't giving me any options for listening to the stream.
  11:06am vox shopuli:

"The whole world is shopping!
The whole world is shopping!"
  11:11am fred von helsing:

LOL
  11:11am listener james from westwood:

goddamn that bill withers joke was funny. literal LOL
  11:12am Black Friday jokebook:

"So these twelve WalMart customers walk into a cloud of chemical irritant..."
  11:13am glenn:

yay. snock.
  11:13am fred von helsing:

A'Salt 'n Pepa, "Spray it REAL good !"
  11:15am Doug Schulkind:

Mike East, can you just listen to WFMU's stream? We are live on BOTH.
  11:16am Amanda:

Mike East, not sure what could be wrong -- seems to be working from where I sit. (Glad you were enjoying it, though!)
  11:16am Van in Dallas:

That was cool. And Doug, now that you have been a guest on your own show, NOW your work is done. :)
  11:17am ndbob:

almost everything is chain store here
  11:17am Doug Schulkind:

Crazy! I think I could feel myself going back in time.
  11:18am fred von helsing:

Schulkindator III: Judgment Show
  11:19am Mike East:

No, its the computer - just got a new server (or somesuch nonsense) and it won't let me install any players cuz I'm not admin. Just got the bright idea to hook my ipod touch up to the pc speakers and listen on the app.
  11:20am Amanda:

Nice version of Ocean here.
  11:22am Doug Schulkind:

Tommy Jay does (did) the hits.

New Tom Waits alert...New Tom Waits alert...New Tom Waits alert...
  11:23am Van in Dallas:

Mike East - you can probably click the "Flash" link at the top of the main wfmu.org page...that should not be a player that has to be admin-installed.
  11:27am fred von helsing:

Most Flash players bite the crank (cos of rampant featuritis) but WFMU's is pretty good. Some problems restarting a paused stream after a while but otherwise good. I wonder if it was done in-house.
  11:31am Amanda:

Doug, thank YOU for inviting me! And in a bigger way for inviting me to the stream back in April. 2011 has been best.
  11:34am Doug Schulkind:

It is I who am grateful to YOU, Amanda. Hoo-Ha!
  11:42am Van in Dallas:

Will be exciting to see where GTDS goes in the coming year. Woof-Moo-Too ...
  11:44am Amanda:

Let's get started on the weekend, man!
  11:47am Parq:

Great show, gang. Next time, 'Manda should bring along a bagful of her drop-ins. I get a big kick out of the Hard Day's quotes.
  11:49am glenn:

bring all the dogs you walk, amanda. that would be fun.
  11:50am Amanda:

Aw, shucks, Parq. Thanks! @glenn -- yes, it would, especially since they don't all get along with each other!
  11:50am Brian in UK:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9c4UZgv1Ft4
  11:52am Brian in UK:

I'll be your dawg.
  11:52am listener james from westwood:

another victory for the drummer stream and fmu. hat's off to both of you!
  11:55am ndbob:

excellent show as always doug and amanda!
  11:57am Mike Sin:

Love this Black Haze Express... Sam Dees undercover.
  11:58am Van in Dallas:

Very much enjoyed the experiment. Great job Doug & Amanda, and thank you.
  12:00pm Doug Schulkind:

Thanks every body! Happy weekend! Thanks AMANDA!
  12:01pm glenn:

thanks dudes. it sizzled, fo shizzle.
