In addition to the common ownership there were two huge jingle houses at the time that really dominated the business, PAMS and TM -- weirdly, both based in Dallas. Nearly every top 40 station in the 60s and 70s used jingles made by one of those companies, regardless of ownership. PAMS is still around today, but I think they're the only big jingle house left.
