Listener comments!

  6:01pm Cecile:

Hiya, Doug!
  6:02pm Drummer Some:

Oy Oy Cecile!
  6:03pm Drummer Some:

Celebrating all your favorite "Black" artists on tonight's show.
  6:04pm Cecile:

Big Black? The band and the artist?
  6:04pm northguineahills:

Yes! A cool ice drink! Alaska!
  6:05pm Paul Sherratt:

Well about twenty minutes ago I was messing about with a few ' Alaska ' songs ...
  6:05pm dc pat:

Alright drummersome! ...what am I doing here?
  6:05pm Drummer Some:

There are NO coincidences, Paul.
  6:06pm Andy S.:

Re: James Brown. I saw him at Radio City Music Hall, the day of the Challenger space disaster. Rev. Al Sharpton gave an invocation, James was pretty well out of it, and Maceo Parker saved the show from coming to a complete standstill. One of my weirder concert-going experiences, for sure.
  6:07pm marcury:

Ooohhh! It's Karen Black History month
  6:08pm Danne D:

Whoa! New format for Kenzoland? (Or a unique one for Doug) - either may it's pretty cool :)
  6:08pm dc pat:

Tonight i'm cooking chickpea cauliflower curry.
  6:09pm Drummer Some:

Danne D, I have had this format for my playlists since 1995!
  6:09pm dc pat:

Don't tell me yer gonna playblack flag!!!!??
  6:09pm Danne D:

either way even :)
  6:11pm marcury:

God I love Pat Place's playing
  6:12pm Drummer Some:

C'mon, dc pat, like, that would be too obvious.
  6:12pm Paul Sherratt:

>>There are NO coincidences

Not even in synchronized swimming ?
  6:12pm Cecile:

ahahahaha!
  6:12pm northguineahills:

Alaska y Dinarama, Spanish synth-pop band from the early 80's...., no more alaska tidbits from me....
  6:13pm Marshall Stacks:

Black Francis sî, Frank Black no.
  6:13pm dc pat:

Awright...just thought there might be some trad punk comin outta the drummersome
  6:14pm Drummer Some:

Five minutes in the box for mentioning synchronized swimming, Paul.
  6:15pm northguineahills:

I mean, from the early 90s, (sorry, typo)
  6:18pm dc pat:

I love eugene.
  6:18pm Cecile:

The DC pop band Poole made a nice record called Alaska Days
  6:19pm Drummer Some:

Maybe I should have done an Alaska special!
  6:19pm glenn:

oddly enough, wasn't jimmy carl black a sioux indian?
  6:20pm Cecile:

Yes. He even said "I'm Jimmy Carl Black, I'm the Indian of the group" on a record.
  6:22pm dc pat:

Yer killin drummer...ok got to feed kids, adios.
  6:23pm Drummer Some:

Hey dc pat, how are the kids gonna learn their history? Drag 'em over to the radio machine.
  6:23pm glenn:

didn't make it to la patisserie beige, drummer. got some montreal bagels though.
  6:25pm dc pat:

Hey, I'm the Indian of the group dammit!
  6:25pm dc pat:

You are correct,sir...
  6:27pm dc pat:

My daughter is resisting the good music now...I'm crushed..
  6:29pm Drummer Some:

Glenn,
I found a shockingly good bagel place here in Pittsburgh. Even better, actually, than the Steroidal hunks of dough I usta get in my Brooklyn neighborhood. Who'da thunk I'd trade up in that department?!
  6:30pm dc pat:

Big jewish-bagel tradition in pgh
  6:30pm Amanda:

Ah, this Cilla Black is an inspired choice. Bravo Doug!
  6:32pm dc pat:

Boom
  6:32pm Drummer Some:

Better a big Jew than a big bagel.
  6:33pm Paul Sherratt:

Priscilla Maria Veronica White !

Inspired indeed, Amanda
  6:33pm glenn:

i will put fairmont bagels up against all challengers. and they will win.
  6:34pm Drummer Some:

A million bucks to anyone who guesses the next "Black" artist. Gotta guess before it starts up...
  6:34pm Amanda:

The Black Hollies. (Wow I hope I win.)
  6:35pm dc pat:

Sorry capitalized Indian but not Jewish. Forgive...
  6:35pm Skirkie:

Blackstreet?
  6:35pm marcury:

I sure hope it's not Clint Black
  6:35pm Drummer Some:

I wish I could rig it for you, Amanda, but I only got 23 seconds.
  6:36pm Danne D:

Black Lodge Singers - haven't heard this in a while :)
  6:37pm dc pat:

Speakin of Indians!
  6:38pm Danne D:

I might've had a shot at the Mil if I had seen it before getting posted as I actually have this CD.

Hi Amanda :)
  6:39pm Amanda:

You lose, Danne! But maybe you'll win it at poker one day.
  6:40pm Danne D:

lol :) Maybe Amanda. Maybe. Perhaps this is a sign I should go up to Foxwoods?
  6:41pm Danne D:

Yay Board Op Amanda :) It's coming through great!
  6:47pm Mariano:

Hey, where is Calypsos from Panama available from?!?
  6:48pm Drummer Some:

Without Board Op Amanda, I be just another pimple-faced teenager playing records alone in his underwear (save for the teenager part).
  6:49pm Paul Sherratt:

I was clearly listening to the wrong collection last night. ' Panama, Latin Calypso & Funk On the Isthmus 1965-75' only has a version of ' Rocombey ' by Lord Cobra & The Pan Afro Sounds
  6:49pm Drummer Some:

Mariano, I just downloaded it today, but I can't find the original site. If I do, I'll post it here.
  6:50pm in a pinch:

countdown to Big Black ?
  6:51pm Drummer Some:

in a pinch:
Wish I had another hour.
  6:51pm Mariano:

Thanks Doug! Good to know at least it's available for download!
  6:51pm No, Doug -:

Without Board Op Amanda, you'd be a pretty special pimple-faced non-teenager playing records alone in his underwear.
  6:54pm Amanda:

We are all pimple-faced teens at heart! Isn't that what brings us together here???
  6:55pm Danne D:

Pass the Clearasil, Amanda :D
  6:56pm glenn:

some of us actually had good complexions as teens, from what i can remember, anyway.
  6:56pm Drummer Some:

Great greasy gobs of love to you all.
  6:58pm Paul Sherratt:

Danne,
Here's BBC DJ Andy Kershaw with a message for you
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJq465T0b5w
  7:00pm Listener Bill:

I think this is Eddie Kirkland...I guess he also called himself Eddie Bo? I have a friend that used to tour in Eddie's band as a guitarist
  7:01pm Danne D:

LOL Paul, Classic :)

Have a good night everyone :)
  7:10pm drr:

Listener Bill: Eddie Bo is a totally different guy than Eddie Kirkland.
