Sat. 2/28/09 6:23pm From: Dursun Sakarya

WTF!!! can't get away from this stuff
Thank Allah for TRT3, they only play nonTurkish misic.

Sat. 2/28/09 6:24pm From: Your DJ

I have to say slugluv that our cats seem a little ambivalent to my show and FMU in general - but maybe yours are more cultured...

Sat. 2/28/09 6:27pm From: Your DJ

But Dursun, the singer is Canadian!

Sat. 2/28/09 6:29pm From: Dursun Sakarya

oh that her
my sister told me about her. she's more Turkish than Turks.

Sat. 2/28/09 6:38pm From: Your DJ

That's right, Brenna spent about ten years in Istanbul - though she's back in Toronto now - and has sung with quite a number of groups and artists in different styles. I just got back from Turkey myself, that's why I'm a little obsessed but I understand your feelings - after all I'm Jewish and I don't always want to hear Klezmer! But we won't be all-Turkish tonight; I'll be playing other stuff too.

Sat. 2/28/09 6:47pm From: Dursun Sakarya

the stuff you're playing is HUGELY better than the pop crap I hear on TV & radio.
recommendation: Desert Dreams of Light: music from the Silk Road.

Sat. 2/28/09 6:56pm From: Your DJ

Thanks Dursun!

Sat. 2/28/09 7:01pm From: Scott

The World's best world music show. Rob, you're some kind of genius.
This is what the marketing people call "appointment listening".

Sat. 2/28/09 7:03pm From: Your DJ

Why gee thanks Scott!

Sat. 2/28/09 7:20pm From: julian

so, you went to turkey. lucky you!
how was the pide? and the imam bayildi?

Sat. 2/28/09 7:22pm From: Your DJ

Great Pide. And more Turkish music coming soon...

Sat. 2/28/09 7:27pm From: isik

hi rob. I just came to check the station and you're on air! Enjoyed your final day here?

Sat. 2/28/09 7:31pm From: Your DJ

Hi Isik - yes indeed - and we did make it to the record store Dost in Ankara where I added a few last discs to my gigantic pile! (By the way dear listeners, Isik plays in a great band from Ankara that you may have heard on FMU, Hayvanlar Alemi!)

Sat. 2/28/09 7:42pm From: Steven S

Damn, that Mbilia Bel cut RAWKS.

Sat. 2/28/09 7:46pm From: Your DJ

It's a classic - kind of her signature song. Glad you enjoyed it.

Sat. 2/28/09 7:51pm From: isik

oh, thanks for mentioning that! anyway, you're welcome back anytime. I hope there will be more action in Ankara then... and falafels.

(by the way if I haven't heard it wrong, you've just said that Cem Karaca is still active. he died a few years ago.)

Sat. 2/28/09 7:52pm From: Mac

Blew off Opera with the wife to listen to your show (and do some work).
I know it is late but I wanted to offer my art-design services for your Marathon Give-away CD. Already pledged for your Funky Gaida. Maybe next year?

Sat. 2/28/09 8:00pm From: Your DJ

Thanks Mac! I feel terribly responsible though - I don't want to undermine your social life! But hey but that's very nice of you re: art-design. Certainly could be something for the future.
