Kiran Ahluwalia with Rez Abassi plus New Releases, Mixed Bag

Kiran
Ahluwalia is a performer of two distinct styles of vocal music from the
Indian subcontinent. She sings ghazals, an ancient form of
sung poetry, as well as folk songs from her family's native Punjabi region of
Indian and Pakistan.
Like FMU's own Laura Cantrell, Kiran squeezed in music
while maintaining a"straight" career for many years before giving up
the day jobs and trying to make it full-time as a singer. So far so good - her new cd (self-titled,
on Triloka/Artemis) has made it to #4 on
the World Music Charts Europe and was on the CMJ "world music" top 20
for 14 weeks.
Kiran is joined by her partner and collaborator, jazz guitarist Rez Abassi, who also has a new solo cd – Snake Charmer.
Kiran and Rez join Rob during the first hour-plus of the
show to chat and introduce their recordings. Not to mention plug Kiran’s next
local gig, at Satalla 37 W 26 St in NYC
September 29. And they perform a song for us unplugged...
