Saw the original Mahavishnu Orchestra as an opener for Emerson, Lake and Palmer in Long Beach, CA, back in '71 or early '72. McLaughlin, Hammer, Laird, Goodman and Cobham blew everybody's socks(and eardrums!) off! ELP were loud too, but McGlaughlin and band had already put me in a state of semi-deafness. Great music, for sure!

Several artists and bands contributed their talents in support of his two campaigns. The ALLMAN BROTHERS and JESSE WINCHESTER come to mind. And who can forget that day in the Rose Garden at the White House when the President hosted a group of musicians that included DIZZY GILLESPIE? The President got a chance to accompany DIZ with stellar vocals on the classic, "SALT PEANUTS." Great moment!
